NEW UPDATE: Shaun Earl Arender
Shaun Earl Arender, 22, pleaded guilty on Friday, February 13th, 2009 to murdering 6-year-old Hanna Mack by hanging her in a garage next to her family’s house in Navarro Mills. He also implicated the live-in boyfriend of little Hannah’s mother, Kevin Wayne Anders. Click on their names to see the original PYSIH write-ups.
Anders, 35, remains in jail in lieu of a $100,000 bond. He is charged with possession of child pornography, and has not yet been charged in connection with the Mack murder.
The following description of how the crime took place id heartbreaking. It was written by Janet Jacobs of the Corsican Daily Sun, and is as hard to read as anything you’re likely to come across, if you care about kids as I do:
Arender said that he had been smoking marijuana that night and wandered away from the trailer where he was staying with a family member and his pregnant girlfriend, when he ran into Anders in front of the house where Anders was living with Dana Mack and her three daughters. Hanna was the youngest.
Anders called him over and asked to share Arender’s drugs, and they smoked and talked for an hour and a half or two hours on the porch before Anders offered him a drink. Anders went into the house and returned with a soda, and with a sleepy Hanna Mack, whom he claimed had just woken up. It was around 3 a.m. on Sept. 10, 2007.
Arender claimed it was Anders who first reached into the child’s underwear, and then began choking her to muffle her screams. Arender said that Anders then carried her into the garage and urged Arender to rape the girl on a couch. Arender said the two then molested the girl.
“I don’t know why I tried,” Arender said.
Throughout most of the assault, the girl was unconscious because she had been choked twice by Anders, Arender testified.
Finally, Anders began talking about hanging, and they used a cord to hang the girl from the rafters.
“I didn’t come up with it, I just went along with it and started helping out,” Arender said.
God help me, because I’ve never wanted to commit murder as much as I do right now. Several folks made the call on this cocksucker Anders, and now we have a little bit more proof that he was involved in Hannah’s murder. I say general population for this pair of asshats.

Molesting a child and hanging them to death is not something any normal man “goes along” with. I hope the courts see that the little prick Arenders could have done something to stop this, instead, he chose to just “go along” like he was joining some friends for a movie or out to dinner. Fucking disgusting and deplorable.
Someone should also shake Hannah’s Mother and ask that bitch what the hell were you thinking bringing that weirdo Anders around, let alone allowing him full access to your child? He looks like a pedo, drug addicted weirdo already. I hope for little Hannah’s mom, the drugs or sex from Anders were worth the cost of her child’s life. Creepy ass back-woods pedophile bastard. My heart breaks for poor Hannah, she was an innocent and beautiful little girl with her life ahead of her. I am thinking hell goes without saying for Anders and Arender, but Mom needs to go for sheer idiocy and lack of judgement. She screwed up big time.

Luckily she won’t be guilty of making any more judgement calls for the older silblings, they were taken from her and placed in to foster care. I would like to know where the biological father is during all of this.

Sounds to me like this murder was done by Arender. I think he is a liar and that he is blaming the boyfriend for what he did. I dont think this was done by more that one person….and seeing as this Arender character is presenting some story about how they “did it together” (like wtf some kind of sicko male bonding?!), Id be more inclined to believe Anders account. I could be wrong, but I really do think Arender’s story sounds fake. You dont just “go along” when the neighbor starts raping and murdering someone.

The idea that this above dude just “went along” with the beating, rape and murder of a 6 year old little girl is just freakin’ horrendous. I agree with Poptart that it wasn’t like they were going to catch a movie.
And I also think that Arender was as sick as they come anyway. Marijuana doesn’t make you a sick fuck pedo when you smoke it! Did he think that intoxication would be a defense that would somehow minimize his actions?

Even if Arender is lying and Anders didn’t participate in the molestation and murder of Hannah, Anders is still equally guilty for getting high with Anders, allowing Anders access to his daughter (and why the hell did he bring her out to the porch at 3am?), and for not protecting her when Arender molested and killed her. In some ways Anders is more deplorable, because he would have had a relationship with Hannah along the lines of step-father, whereas Arender was just a pedophile stranger. Also, I agree that pot, even mixed with alcohol, doesn’t cause people to be violent, so they’d better not even go there in terms of looking for an excuse! Please put up the vote for hell survey so I can vote them both to hell (and mom, too, for being a very sucky, skanky parent).
Arender had child porn on his home computer. They are both guilty.
I live in the same community where this awful crime took place. They are both guilty, one way or another. My children go to the same school where this poor child attended. I graduated from here, and moved my family back for the community that it is. Almost thinking that were were immune to such a thing. This is just something that does not happen in small town Texas. Nothing will bring this girl back, the only positive is the fact that he is young, and that leaves a lot of time on the clock for the animals in the Texas Department of Corrections to rape and degrade him for the piece of shit that he is. As far as Anders goes, if something would have happened like this to a child in my care right under my nose, and I had been locked in the same jail as the bastard that supposedly done it for two years, there would be no plea bargains. So yes he is guilty of something, and he better hope that the navarro county justice system finds him guilty, because he WON’T be welcome here!

If I were Hanna’s mother, this is what I would cling to for comfort. I hope that sweet baby wasn’t aware of what was happening to her, especially when she was hanged. The hanging is the most bizarre aspect of this crime… they/he didn’t strangle Hanna and then hide her body… they/he hanged her and left her to be discovered. My kid is 20 years old and just very narrowly missed plunging off a sheer cliff in the blinding snow by a hair, trapped in the car in a blizzard at night. My husband and I started walking/running the 3 miles to reach him… hypothermia be damned. A very scary night for us… and my son is an adult now, not a baby, but the mama/papa tiger instincts never die. I cannot, for even a second, imagine the pain and horror of finding my child hanging in a garage. I cannot, even for a second, imagine torturing a child that way. If these two are indeed guilty of this crime, they should be removed from society forever. And I mean death for both. When do we start sentencing people to the same death they gave their victims? I think that would be a nice deterrent. These a-holes should be choked in and out of unconsciousness and then hung slowly, not given lethal injection.

I am a family member of Hannah’s I do not live in Texas but I do know that the family that does live there did not know what kind of person Kevin is . i think some people have issues and most of the time things like this only happen when something happens to some one else like that. how do any of ya’ll know if Arender was rapped when he was a kid. some people stay traumatized from things like thatand none of ya’ll know what he has been through. you don’t know his personality or any thing else about him. so don’t judge people by what others say!
man, shit like this is precisely the reason why i won’t ever live with another man, at least not so long as my kids are living @ home, which will be for at least another 15 years. my children’s father and i are no longer romantically involved, but he still lives in our home (couch) and we have decided that while our relationship status with eachother has changed, it does not nulify our children’s need for a safe and secure environment that can only be provided by us. When the time comes for their father to move into his own place, I will still not have another man in my home with my kids, because you never really know anyone, and I am not about to bet on someone else’s integrity with my children’s lives, safety or wellfare. There are parts of me that do hope to someday find a romantic relationship that works, but storie like poor sweet Hannah’s remind me that every decision I make must be made with my children as the forefront number one priority.
