UPDATE: Dentist Mark K. Anderson Found Guilty of Fondling Patients
It started when when a woman came in to be treated be Doctor Anderson for temporomandibular disorder, or TMD. a painful condition of the jaw, where, simply put, the joints of the jawbone don’t line up correctly. This causes pain and headaches, joint pain, and tooth pain.
Dr Anderson had a unique way of treating TMD- He would massage a woman’s chest and breasts, sometimes fondling their breasts under their bras and pinching their nipples. This was his standard treatment for TMD at least if you were young and pretty. Sometimes his assistant would even be present during the treatment. Amazingly enough, he got away with this for years, even though there is no acceptable treatment for TMD recognized by the AMA or the ADA that involves the touching and fondling of a female patient’s breasts.
Most of the women were either too embarrassed and ashamed, or just too plain shocked, to repost the good doctor. One woman finally did report Anderson to police in September 2007, and officers taped a telephone conversation in which she confronted the dentist:
“I was in shock,” she told Anderson. “I feel violated.”
Anderson said he felt “terrible” but denied any sexual intent.
“If I went too far, I apologize,” he said.
The woman asked why she shouldn’t go to police.
“Oh, I hope you don’t,” Anderson said.
Than on August 27, 2007, a 28-year-old women went to Dr. Anderson to fitted for a mouthpiece to protect her teeth from grinding at night. She was reclined in the dentist’s chair, with 
Anderson behind her massaging her neck, jaw line and upper chest.
Then he asked her, “Did you get a breast augmentation?” according to the report. Shocked, she answered “Yes.”
With that, she said, Anderson reached into her shirt and caressed her breasts. “They did a good job,” he allegedly told her. According to the police report, he then put his hand under her bra for 10 seconds.
The woman said she was in shock and did not respond, police said. When a hygienist walked in, Anderson quickly removed his hands, the report says.
Two weeks later the woman told her husband what had happened, according to the report. Both were longtime patients of Anderson’s. The couple went to Woodland police, who asked them to call Anderson while the calls were recorded. Transcripts show Anderson apologized for his conduct and didn’t deny touching the woman’s breasts.
The woman said she felt sickened and angry. Later she wrote Anderson a letter saying he had abused his position and taken advantage of her, the memo says.
“What if you were doing this to other women? What you did to me was wrong. In my heart, I know you already know that, but you need to hear it.”
“I didn’t want to face the fact that I was being sexually abused by my dentist. I hope and pray that you will never again make another woman or child feel like you made me feel.”
In response, Anderson sent the woman an apology card with a “bunny rabbit character on the front with the caption: ‘Ooops!’ “. “I am so sorry that I’ve lost your friendship, your trust and your respect,” Anderson wrote in the card. “I never intended to hurt you in any way.”
They were the first two woman to have Dr. Mark K Anderson arrested, but once they did, the flood gates were opened, and when they were finally closed, 26 women had come forward to accused the doctor of sexually assaulting them.
He was eventually indicted by a Federal Grand Jury on 19 Felony Counts of Sexual Battery one Misdemeanor Count. He could be sentenced to a total of 14 years in prison if convicted of all the charges.
On January 14th, 2009, The trial of the People of California versus Dr. Robert Kieth Anderson began in Yolo County Federal Court. Anderson’s main defense was that his touching and massaging each woman’s breasts was medically necessary and part of his treatment for temporomandibular disorder, or TMD, even though no respectable doctor would testify is support of his theory or to even hearing of such a treatment before this trial.
So to no ones surprise, Dr. Mark K. Anderson was found guilty of 12 of the 20 charges he faced. They hung on six of the felony charges, all dealing with the same witness – apparently some of the jurors did not believe her account of molestation. – and acquitted Anderson on two other charges associated with two other witnesses.
Dr. Anderson faces up to 14 years in prison.
It must be said that this jury deliberate for 8 full days, and in my opinion did a fantastic job with a difficult case. The judge praised them using his typical low key approach:
“It’s clear that you’ve been meticulous,”
Even Defense Attorney Michael Rothschild said jurors had given Anderson a fair trial when they made their decision. “I think we just have to live with it,” he said.
A sentencing date has not been announced at this time, but you can bet I will post his sentence as soon as it goes down. If there is anyone who deserves the maximum, it’s Mark K. Anderson.

Anderson was prominent Woodland dentist who once had it all – a thriving practice, loyal patients, a big house and high standing in his church – and now he’s seen his fortunes crumble Tuesday as Yolo County jurors convicted him of a dozen counts of sexual battery for molesting female patients. And it couldn’t happen to a nicer guy. I’ve been watching this case for about 6 weeks now, researching the background, checking out court records, and following the trial. I even spoke with a reporter on the West Coast about it, because, information was kind of sparse. It’s amazing how willing they are to share info with you. I can’t mention names at their request, but they are very cool people indeed.
He tried every trick there is to get off, but failed miserably – and now he’s set to catch a pretty serious bid in prison. All because this man who had everything couldn’t keep his damn hands to himself, and more importantly, because he couldn’t care for anyone other than himself. Did you think he gave a second’s consideration to those 7 children who depended on him for support? Or to the pain and embarrassment he would cause his wife if and when he got caught by the police?
Of course he didn’t, because Mark Anderson is nothing but an extreme example of a narcissist. He lives strictly for the pleasure he can get out of life. But Mark is even worse than most of them, because he has no empathy for the people who depend on him or the people who care about him. And for that, I think, there is a special place in hell waiting for him.

What a pervert. I think he got what he deserved. He is genuinely a very selfish, selfish man. He abused people that trusted him as a DDS and he deserves hell. You can’t trust anyone, it seems.
i agree that the guy is an asshole, but drawing the conclusion that you can’t trust anyone is a bridge too far. i’d go as far as to say that it would be a sad, sad world if that where true.
I know, DualDenz, logically, you are right. Thank you for being the voice of reason. That statement did come across as slightly jaded, if not minutely paranoid. It just seems that the world has so many weirdos in it that you really have to be careful about who you come into contact with. This man is a horrible person, a total asshole. It is sad when you cannot trust your own Dentist. I feel terrible for those who placed their trust in him to be violated. Just plain wrong.

The caption read “oops!” Yeah, “oops” my hand slipped when I was cleaning your teeth and I accidentally copped a feel.

This is just ridiculous! The part that I find the most funny is that he actually thought that he could get away with it. It wasn’t like like the women were under gas or unconscious, he did it with them asleep and knowing what was going on. The gull of him is what gets me in this case.

Anyway, if one really needs to cop feels of some other woman’s boobs, there are plenty of strip joints – just cough the cash. In many cases if one is nice to the dancers (and I mean treat them with respect as opposed to throwing money at them and treating them like a slave) they may be a bit “nicer” back…. Hygene also plays a role in how “nice” back they may be.
Years ago I was at one place down my street and one of the dancers was more interested in the fact that I had a turkey in my fridge than money in my wallet, so…… this guy is a real dumbass!

You gotta understand, he pulled this on who had been his patients for years, many times, his assistant was present in the room during these “treatments”. Whenever he was confronted, he could be convincing as he explained the workings of his unique TMD treatment.
It wasn’t until the last 2 women I described in my story refused to accept his apologies and went to police. After those arrests appeared in the media, the other realized they’d been duped all along and floodgates were opened.
Well, if he was good-looking instead of ugly, I might not have minded….lol!

Well, I suppose an argument could be made that if a hot dentist massaged a woman’s breasts properly, she would forget about the jaw pain! I think a claim could be made with the insurance company!
this is certainly a disturbing case, but i have to say, it doesn’t get me as badly as any cases involving children. thankfully, these were adults who had the option of reporting it.
I have to wonder, being a male with TMJ, would I recieve the same kind of ‘treatment’ as these ladies got.
You are all wrong. I know this man and he is a good man with no malicious intent whatsoever. His brother is a therapist and taught this treatment method. He was genuinely trying to help his patients but went way overboard. He should have clearly explained what he was going to do and get the patients full permission before proceeding. In any case, the punishment is excessive, disproportionate from the crime.

As a licensed Massage Therapist of ten years, I know there is absolutely no reason to be fondling breast to help TMJ. The most that can be addressed in the chest area are Pec Major and Pec minor, everything else is above the clavicle. I have worked these areas in women, who had specific complaints in that area, and have NEVER touched their breast! AND, any of this type of work is done with full cooperation and consent of the client!
There is absolutely NO therapeutic reason to be touch nipples EVER!
By the way, it is illegal to touch the breasts while doing therapeutic work. Unless you are a MD doing a breast examine for a medically indicated reason, it is illegal.

Whether he told them what he was doing or not, he was being deceptive and touching these women inappropriately. NEWS FLASH, good people don’t fondle other people against their will. He embarrassed and betrayed his wife and seven, count ‘em, seven children. And he sexually abused several of his trusting patients, all so he could cop a feel? And you are on here defending him.
