Stacey Marie Barker
Take a look at little 18-month-old Emma Leigh Barker’s picture – it’s the second one down in this story. Look into those beautiful eyes. She’s dead you know, another child thrown away like so much garbage, perhaps because she didn’t fit into someone’s fantasy of what having a baby would be like, or just because she got in the way of somebody’s good time.
On March 18th, 2009, police were called to park-and-ride lot in Palmdale, California by Stacey Barker, 20, of Lancaster. She told them she was with her daughter Emma at Lancaster City Park about 5 p.m. Wednesday, and was putting her daughter into a car seat when she was struck in the back of the head and knocked unconscious. Barker said she woke up six hours later at the park-and-ride lot, which is nine miles away from Lancaster, “partially clad” and with a head injury.
Police launched a massive manhunt for her assailant and the missing child. But the next day, Barker recanted the tale of assault and abduction, after detectives questioned her about several inconsistencies in her story. She told deputies that her daughter died in an unspecified accident and said she panicked and dumped the body, according to the sheriff’s department. Then, with Barker’s help, detectives discovered the toddler’s body near an offramp of the Golden State Freeway.
Sounds pretty fishy, doesn’t it? Yeah, well that’s what the cops thought too, but they allowed Stacey Barker to go home, and began investigating 
Emma’s death. One thing they noticed was there were no visible signs of trauma on the baby’s body. They also interviewed several of Stacey’s friends and family members. All this, along with the autopsy results from little Emma brought detectives closer and closer to the conclusion that Stacey Barker murdered her daughter.
But still they watched. And waited.
Finally, on April 23rd, police made their move and arrested Stacey Marie Barker at her grandmother’s home for the murder of Emma Leigh Barker, because she began to show “indications she might flee or disappear”. She was charged with one count each of murder, assault on a child causing death and child abuse on April 27th and held in lieu of one million dollars bail.
Coroner’s officials have not yet issued a final report on how the girl died but Sheriff’s Department spokesman Steve Whitmore said:
“Detectives believe that … based on interviews and the condition of the victim that she likely suffocated.”
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Pat Nelson was more direct:
“At this point, as best as we can determine, the infant died through suffocation at the hands of the mother,”
“After her third or fourth version of events, we knew she wasn’t telling the truth, and we were able to determine what happened. At this point, we believe she acted alone.”
Emma’s Grandfather, Gary Barker, was heartbroken. Stacey, his daughter, lived at his home along with Emma, and as in a lot of these situations, it developed into a very close extended family. Her parents and younger brother all took turns taking care of the family’s first and only grandchild. Gary said his wife worked at night so they wouldn’t have to send Emma to day care, while his son watched Emma during the morning so other family members could rest.
He said there were no words to express how the family is dealing with the tragedy:
“You lose it, you get it together, you lose it, you get it together.”

UPDATE 05/11/2009 – Stacey Barker Is Arraigned In Lancaster Courtroom
One of our readers, Tori, was at Stacey’s arraignment today and was kind enough to let us know what happened in court:
I was there…she looked way thinner then she does in her pix.. she did have her hair fixed this time, braids in the front and a ponytail bun with flowers or sunflowers on the rubberband holding the bun in the top back of her head…oh, it so complemented her gorgeous PUKE yellow jail scrubs.
Her Parents, possibly her grandparents , her Brother, a few of his friends and the new man in her life Brendon were there in the front row.
Her attorney spoke for her and plead NOT GUILTY AND NOT GUILTY TO THE ALLEGATIONS OF SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES.
the only thing she said was “yes” when asked by the Judge if she understood and waived her rights to a speedy trial.It didn’t look like she had been crying. not one tear, no emotion at all, even when she saw all of her family in the front row, not even a smile.
That is the first time I have heard SC in this case….now it makes you think “what are the SC” the story is getting stranger everyday.I didn’t hear what the charge was in court because the judge and attorney talked fast and used pc code.

I read her myspace and it is typical, complete with a tear-jerking antecdote added by her, so quickly after this terrible tragedy, too. All about why god “takes” babies instead of adults. Yadda Yadda. I dont know about you all, but nothing rings coping with personal “tragedy” than quickly writing some deep thoughts on your myspace page. Especially when it is a public profile. Unless she is just that much of an attention whore……

It’s all an act. What is myspace, anyway? It’s a place where people can present themselves anyway they want. So depending on their social group, they highlight whatever they think will fit in with the gang, even if it’s a lie.
Just like Casey Anthony, being a “caring, hip young mother” was her persona. It allowed her to present herself as cool and show off her baby as if she was a possession. But real life doesn’t work that way. Babies cry, they need diapers, they break things and they keep you awake at night. Add that to a selfish “party girl” and you get a nasty situation behind the computer facade.
Did anyone else notice that the grandparents and the uncle were the primary caregivers for this baby? Where was mom? Why wasn’t she the one watching the child she spawned? Did the family know that she was too self-absorbed to give the child proper care? Or did she refuse to accept responsibility for the small life that she so casually brought into the world? Did she only take the glory and none of the pain? Fucking whore.

I have an 18 month old child myself, and I could NEVER imagine that if something were to happen to him, that I would dump his body on the side of the road and leave him there.

If mommy just wanted to spend all her time doing crank in Lancaster (crank capital of Southern California) and screwing Fred Flintstone there, why didn’t she just give the kid up to someone who would care for her? I would like to know more details about just what happened here on the off chance that it really was an accident and she really did panic. I just don’t understand how people can have children and then KILL them. I have two kids, and there were times when I’ve had it with them and I’ve been stressed out to the max, but I have never wanted to hurt them. I was also a young mother. I know what it’s like to miss out while your friends are partying. You do feel deprived of the life you could have had at times, but this is the life and the gift that you have now and you have to accept that and do what you gotta do.
I mean, obviously she already had help from her parents and brother. I don’t understand how she could be so selfish. Like all of you, I am so sick of these stories. People, if you have a kid you don’t want, PLEASE give it up. Give it to the state; abandon it to your parents; adopt it to a couple that can’t have this blessing you’re given, but PLEASE don’t kill an innocent child.

Jessi, if it was a accident why would you worry about getting blamed for it? Panic or not, you don’t throw your flesh and blood into the brush along the side of the freeway..the grass and weeds were so tall that unless you knew the body was there you would have never found it, so it is clear she put poor, beautiful Emma somewhere she would not easily be found, meaning she did not want her found at the time she put her there, she then had a change of heart or something and took the LE to Emma’s body.
people that hurt their children or kill them usually make up stories about what happened, but I have only heard of less then a handful that dump the child and make up a story about abduction.

OMG! Did anyone happen to look at the other photos on her myspace? Under the “My Daughter” album, there is a really creepy picture of Emma dressed up like Snow White, receiving a poison apple from mom. Talk about creepy foreshadowing in real life…that picture just disturbed me in light of what happened.

I saw that!!!! A few days after Emma died, and I was like “holy shit!”.
I guess there is still a part of me that doesn’t want to believe that Stacey did it. I think that’s mainly because I don’t understand how ANYONE could hurt their baby. Especially someone as beautiful as Emma. I mean, look at her. Her smile just lights up the world.
I guess my bottom line is this, I feel SOOOO bad for Stacey’s parents and her brothers. There is not a day that passes that I don’t wish there was something I could do to help them or take their pain away. My cousin works with Stacey’s father, and that baby was the light of his life…and now she is gone. Stacey’s mother has already been in the hospital with a nervous breakdown. I mean, all of the people in this situation who deserve to suffer the least are the ones who are suffering the most. And I guess a part of me is hoping that somehow this really was an accident (I know she was involved in Emma’s death, that’s a given), but if somehow it’s not what it seems. That’s kind of what I’m hoping, for the sake of the rest of the Barker’s. They have been through enough. HOWEVER, if it all does come out that she did do it exactly as it says, then I am sorry for anything I have said to stand up for her.
I am really tired of mothers killing their kids, too. Mine is coming any day now, and although I was not planning on having babies any time soon, all I can think about is how I am going to take care of him in this big bad world. Spin these things in your own mind as part of your baby learning and growing, and always look at your angel in bed at night and realize what a precious gift you have been given. Don’t take any of it for granted, and don’t rush it.

This is what was written in the Robert Blake case:
Under a California law passed in 1978 with the reinstatement of the death penalty, special circumstances are felonies committed during the act of first-degree murder that may have aggravated the offense. Common examples include multiple murder, murder of a police officer, murder for financial gain, and murder during a rape, arson, or robbery. In Blake’s case, the special circumstance is lying in wait, which typically refers to an ambush. Bakley was shot to death as she waited in Blake’s 1991 Dodge Stealth after the two dined at a Los Angeles restaurant.
If the jury finds Blake guilty of murder without special circumstances, he faces a sentence of 25 years to life in prison with the possibility of parole. If the jury finds the special circumstance to be true, it must choose between life in prison without parole or a death sentence.

I have been reading these for a while and have never commented on a story until now. I am a new mother and my daughter is 3 months old and I just get physically ill, when I read these things. I fell in love with my daughter the moment I felt her move the first time, and then when I looked at her, she had me completely. How someone can do this blows my mind, and I think that there is a special place for these types of people, and that hell is too nice of a place for them to reside, they need worse.

This beautiful child affected me also, for one it is in my town, 2. it was heartless and cruel for her to dump the baby, and leave a angel alone, cold and lifeless in tall grass and weeds, that is NO WAY for anyone you LOVE to be treated, I could not even do that to a animal. 3. The reason people are saying she did it, for a man! and the most Important reason is I have many grandchidren from 15 years to 17 months old and know they can get people mad but you still love them through everything.
Some say it was a accident, some say she did it for a man, some say it was out of spite or to teach someone a lesson. I am going to wait for the trial and see what her or her attorney has to say, you all know she is not good at making up stories that anyone can believe, so maybe she will tell the truth for a change and take the punishment.
I am wondering if anything is going to be in the local news papers the only people in court were the people that needed to see the judge and SB’S family. I do remember the bailiff letting some woman in to see SB to have her sign some paper and then she had to put her thumb print on the paper she signed, the woman did not look like any type of official, she was dressed casual and did not speak to the attorney, so I don’t know what that was about.
This story is so heartbreaking, selfish SB could not give Emma a chance to graduate kindergarten and Jr. High, go to prom, graduate High School, fall in love, have a family of her own and live. it makes me sick just thinking about it. God has her now and she is safe.

I did see the paper this morning, but I bet they got the information over the phone because SB was not in a BLUE AND YELLOW jump suit, it was all yellow with blue letters on the back and it was scrubs not a 1 piece jump suit. there was something else that the paper got wrong but I do not have the paper with me so I forgot what the other thing was but I remember thinking, if they were Really there they would have known that was wrong (what they reported). there was a total of about 15 people there and 8 or 9 were cases to be seen, the room for the press was empty, it is a all glass room with chairs and I guess they can hear the Judge and Attorney better because it is closed off from the regular court gallery and it has a clear shot into the other glass holding room that SB was in.
shana, you know some people on the other blog site said she had sores or burns on her mouth the day she was arrested and arraigned, they said you could see them on her lips on the news, I couldn’t see anything on the footage on youtube so I am not sure, yesterday her lips and mouth were free of any type of damage.

Hi everyone, Yes Kat I did attend her hearing and it was short and they have given her another date…June 30th, as I told my other partners in crime solving, she was stoic faced again and this time her hair was down, no corn rows and I think her bestie AB was there. who ever was sitting next to brendon was wearing earrings of skull and crossbones, not real classy for what she was there for. It was a little dissapointing but I guess a trial will take time to come ya know Jury selection and stuff if she does not plead out.

The air conditioners broke down in the AV court on Monday so all the cases were moved to the San Fernando Valley and LA for cases being heard on Tuesday.. so the next court date is on July 21st in the AV court if the AIR CONDITIONERS ARE WORKING! The mother is definately guilty….But i dont think that the real question is “does she deserve hell?”. I believe that she is going to be her own worst punishment and “hell” is simply a state of mind. She has to live with what she did while she sits in prison for the rest of her life, and its really not for any of us to say whether or not she deserves “hell”. God is the only one to judge. For any of us to sit here and say that she deserves hell is trash, and only makes you sound like you think you have the authority of God. You dont. What she did is wrong, of course. But as i said, she is going to have to be her own worst punishment for the rest of her life. Sitting there with a guilty conscience for only God knows how long and realizing what a beautiful life that she took out of sheer greed. May God have mercy on her and may she do her best to try and forgive herself. Everyone take care and practice kindness. I wish I had not went today, it was horriable sitting through hearing all that shit! sorry for cussing but I wanted to put my fists into SB head so bad, I cried hearing the Coroner, the Det’s and the Sheriffs.
This Bitch was as usual non emotional except when the coroner or Det said something she didn’t like then she sucked her teeth and rolled her eyes and bitched to the PD…anything but tears!
Her hair was a rats nest so someone must have stolen her brush..hair down almost covering her face.
Family was there, the father Anthony and his mom were there also. Uncle Nick or should I say Nicole?? and his partner were there along with brendon and some aunts.
Nick has a flare for fashion…his attire was a Lavender Dress shirt, Grey slacks and white saturday night fever shoes. his partner was all up on him, touching and putting his head on NB shoulder, how touching! girls and Max GOT THE PIXS TO PROVE IT!

We were right about A LOT OF THINGS!
To start…..
SB AND BB were out until about 2 or 3 am on St.Patty’s day at Coaches or some other bar and grill, the Det could not remember the name SB told her (Judge Chung did not want to hear the 2 hour tape interview) SB’S mom was watching Emma.
SB got up the at her regular time and got dressed like she was going to work, went to BB house where they slept most of the day and other things, watched tv and then went to pollo loco for lunch then she redressesd in her work clothes and goes home like she worked all day!
She feeds Emma dinner…..real dinner a lunchable! Her and her mom get into a fight because mom feels SB is spending more time with BB and not Emma, so mom tells her that she is not going to watch Emma anymore for her to go party only for work! SB the little Bitch gets pissed off and tells bro that she is taking Emma to the park, in reality she is heading to LB to see if Anthony (Emma’s dad) will give her more support money for Emma,He shakes his head so I think she was just trying to get him to take Emma, I guess the answer was no!!! back to the AV, the freeways are all packed, stop and go traffic, Emma is getting restless at the length of the drive, SB gives her a purse to play with and it has a empty zip lock baggie in it (I always carry a empty baggie don’t any of you?) and Emma puts it in her mouth SB notices it and starts to play peek a boo with beautiful Emma putting a blanket over her face, while the baggie is still in her mouth, she put her hand over Emma’s mouth and nose and held it there for 2 to 3 mins, Emma was trying to get Bitches hand off her face pulling at her arm with one hand at first then struggling pulling at her arm with both hands…then EMMA’S LITTLE HANDS JUST FELL LIMP (hearing this the whole family was crying even BB..Anthony and his mother were sobbing..and I cried too) she removed the blanket and Emma’s head is slumped to the side and the baggie is still in her mouth, she drives another 45 mins with Emma dead in the car seat with the baggie in her mouth, finds the offramp Roxford and rids herself of Emma takes the baggie out of her mouth drives for 15 Mins and throws the baggie out the window, goes to the park and ride and fakes the rest. she was in her bra and panties only and had 2 cuts on her forehead, she told DET’S that she does not know if she made it to the park or not, everything is fuzzy! and oh HER HEAD HURTS, she said this a munber of times…also her brother and BB were at the park and ride before the sheriff was.
When the sheriff arrives all she does is complain about HER HEAD..SHE MENTIONS EMMA 1 OR 2 TIMES ONLY! B I T C H……
Truth is BB did not want a ready made family, he claims to be single and loving his life with no kids to hold him down, that is what he told Det’s!
OK Emma was allergic to Peanuts so the Dr. gave her dimeatapp(?) wellllll, she had 2x the dose for her age (she had not eaten peanuts that day!) she also had white rock type material in her belly (SB states was a piece of granola bar, right!) Blood in both nosterals among other things they found hairs on her vagina (coroner did not elaborate on what kind of hairs), blanket material on her face and grass and dirt on her back!
They are going to continue in Monday! they will show pics of Emma’s dead body and autopsy pics, I caught a peek at then when the DDA was looking at them….Just horriable, made me sick to see them.
I will be back on Monday for Emma………. please excuse any misspellings I was typing fast and if you have any questions I will answer them if I can, it was 3 hours long so there is more but sometimes my memory needs to be jogged.

I have to say I am Sorry to the Brother Nick, I was not aware that there was another Brother “Matt” in the family and I thought it was Nick the whole time at the court dates, I mentioned he (NB) was gay and got set straight about that it was not him it is the other brother that is gay, this comes from a family friend of the barkers.
I have nothing against Gay’s and did not mean to make it sound like I was making fun of him or Judging the Barkers for his sexuality in any way, I was just making a observation. I thought the choice of attire he had on was strange and the way the other male was touching him in the courtroom was not appropriate.
There are a few things I remember about why she told Det’s she did it, she did not want Emma to grow up like she did “knocked up at a young age and living at home with her parents” maybe SB did not want to be the kind of Grandma to sit home and watch Emma’s kid while Emma was out partying till the wee hours of the morning. that is a strange reason to kill her………
one other fact I would like to clear up is on the blog it said that her brother Leigh was at the park and ride, she has no brother Leigh it was Nick and Brendon that were at the park and ride.

I know she had me arrested for child abuse, and my discovery was full of lies, and she told me I didn’t have the right to an attorney, when she requested that I come and talk to her about this crime. The report said that I told the sheriff that I was seeing a srink because I was already a child molestor. All this is a lie.

She had YOU arrested? If so, then obviously there was a reason. One just doesn’t get arrested for child abuse without a reason. What you wrote leaves me with an OPINION that you are guilty of something, and a few cards shy of a deck.

I can’t believe this! I went to High school with Stacey. She was one of my close friends. I heard this tragedy mentioned quite some time ago, but I never thought in a million years it could have been “my” Stacey ! The girl I knew would never have done sch a terrible thing! I don’t know a whole lot about what happened. Like I said, I am just now figuring out that it was her, and I have been out of touch with her for a number of years now, but i am completely speechless! It breaks my heart! The whole thing! A baby has lost the gift of life and I have had to see one of my close friends do something terrble! I am completely and utterly speechless!
And to the family, I don’t know if you remember me or not but, I am truly very sorry for your loss! I can’t imagine what you’ve had to go through! My heart goes out to you
This little girl resembles my daughter so much that I did a double take. She was an absolutely beautiful angel, and she didn’t deserve to die. I hope they are able to prove the mother did it, (if she did) and that she gets the maximum sentence. This was such a senseless crime!

Update on Stacey Barker – On 5/24/11 a jury of her peers found SB GUILTY of 1st Degree Murder! She is now eligible for LIFE w/o parole! Sentencing is June 17, 2011.
SB is such a twit, she took the stand in her own defense (if you can call it that). The trial was grueling and heartbreaking. DDA Kelly Cromer was amazing and carried the jury right straight to the verdict.
