    Thomas Scott Grobbel

Thomas Scott GrobbelYou know what! I’ve got a novel idea!  Let’s all go out, get so drunk we can’t even see straight and then drive pickup trucks until we can find a minivan full of loving family members to kill!

This is twenty-four-year-old Thomas Scott Grobbel, a man so drunk, police allege that he played bumper cars with a guard rail in a McDonalds drive through, a short time before he decided to go drive his car through the back of this mini-van.

Yeah, that used to be a mini-van before Thomas Scott Grobbel rammed it, rolled it, and kept right on keeping on up, up and away on the off ramp heading for his destination. I should throw in words like, alleged, or the accused, but I don’t feel like it. The person he killed and the two people he’s probably crippled for life probably don’t feel like it either. I wonder why this makes me so mad? What does this remind me of? What is this strange bile-like feeling I have when I look at a mini-van full of people killed and maimed by a drunk 20-something in a truck?

The incident started on July 22nd, 2009 at around 1:30 AM, when Grobbel stopped at the drive thru of a McDonald’s in Royal Oak, Michigan. While he was waiting, Grobbel, wearing a green Jagermeister T-shirt, bragged to the kid at the drive up window about how drunk he was. After he received his Big Mac and Fries, he proved it by driving his late model Chevy Silverado pickup over a concrete parking barrier.

Accident SceneThomas Scott Grobbel jumped onto nearby I-696 westbound, where he nearly ran another driver off the road. He then tried to exit the highway and slammed into the rear end of a Ford Aerostar van which had slowed to the 35 mile per hour speed limit on the ramp. Police estimated Grobbel’s speed at impact was 95 miles per hour. The four men in that van, Andrew Gene Ross, 23; Ross’s father, Andrew Gene Doran, 45; Jared Nicholas Charest, 25; and the owner and driver of the van, Michael William Myke, 33, never knew what hit them.

Andrew Ross was pronounced dead at the scene. Andrew Doran and Jared Charest were both severely injured in the crash and taken to Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, where they are listed in serious condition. Michael Myke was lucky – he only received minor injuries and was able to walk away from the wreck.

Thomas Scott Grobbel also lucked out and wasn’t hurt badly. The first police officers who arrived at the scene knew this because Thomas Scott Grobbel was nowhere to be found. In the tradition of medium_van-crashdrunk drivers everywhere, especially the ones who cause accidents that kill people, our boy Tommy took off as soon as he realized how much trouble he was in, and it took cops, with help from a Coast Guard helicopter, four hours to find his drunk ass. Even then the police say Thomas Scott Grobbel was still highly intoxicated.

Thomas Scott Grobbel faces nine felony charges: operating while intoxicated causing death, manslaughter with a motor vehicle, failure to stop at the scene of an accident causing death, operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated causing injury, two counts of felonious driving, and two counts of failure to stop at a serious accident causing impairment. He was arraigned Tuesday, August 4th, in Michigan’s 44th District Court in Royal Oak. Royal Oak District Magistrate Donald Chisholm ordered Grobbel held in the Oakland County Jail in lieu of $1 million cash bond.

Chisholm said he agreed with Oakland County Assistant Prosecutor Carmine Defranco that Thomas Scott Grobbel presented a risk to the community and was a flight risk because he left the scene of the crash.

“Based on the severity of the event and based on the substantial amount of time between the crash and before you (decided) not to be forthcoming, it shows an attempt to evade the consequences of your conduct.”

    You tell him Justice Chisholm.

After the arraignment, a visibly grief-stricken Greg Strube, Grobbel’s uncle, summarized the feelings of several of those attending the proceeding, many too overcome by emotion to talk to reporters.

“A lot of lives have been affected by this. It’s really tragic and our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of all those affected.”

If you aren’t disgusted enough with Thomas Scott Grobbel, it turns out he had his license suspended five times from May 2006 to December 2008. Grobbel had a valid license at the time of the accident, but had previously been charged with disobeying a stop sign, driving without proof of insurance and for involvement in a separate three-vehicle crash.

    What a guy!

You know, maybe it’s that I’m starting to become precognitive! Maybe I’m preparing myself for his family and friends who try to call this “an accident,” “a mistake,” or “how sorry he is.” There’s one way for Thomas Scott Grobbel to show how sorry he is. Show up in court, plead “guilty as sin,” beg for the stiffest sentence imaginable and spend the rest of your useless life trying to make sure this won’t happen again until something finally works!

If you are the family, friend, pet rooster, or sheep he met in a pasture one day, please go look at some of the other posts we have on this site. Yes we know we can’t send Thomas Scott Grobbel to hell, yes we know that we don’t know him, and we don’t care. If you plan on using the Bible, read it first, cover to cover before you try to use it in a comment, and be prepared for the worst verbal beat down of your life. This is inexcusable.

    UPDATE – 08/10/2009

There’s been some question about whether the occupants of the van which Thomas Grobbel slammed into while driving drunk were drunk themselves, and if they all possessed either suspended or restricted licenses. Michael Myke, the driver of the van, gave an interview to Cheryl Chodun of WXYZ Channel 7 in Detroit, where he answered those allegations:

So apparently Myke at least had a restricted driver’s license, and everyone in the van had been drinking. What this has to do with these men being rammed from behind at 95 miles per hour, or how it in any way lessens Thomas Grobbel’s responsibility is something I am unable to answer, but since some people wanted to know the truth, I dug up this video.

JESUS! It even has the fucking fast-food restaurant part. Maybe they can put him in a cell with Gagnon and forget to feed them, or something?

Anyway – brace yourself for the obligatory family, and don’t hold your breath for him, or anyone he knows to accept any responsibility. Maybe they’ll organize a fundraiser though.. won’t that be nice?

    2. Maelstrom says:

Honestly….I’m so angry I can’t even articulate it. Someone please explain to me how these drunk, murdering son of a bitches never seem to kill themselves or even get hurt ?

      • diana says:

Yeah- fucked up, isn’t it? Like- why couldn’t he have hit a TREE or something?

      • matthewrmt says:

Usually, the person is so intoxicated, thus relaxed, that they are like a rag doll during the accident. Most of the usual injuries occur when people brace themselves for impact. That is why drunks usually escape with little injury but the innocent person that sees them coming, stiffen their body and thus snap bones, tear muscles, etc.

This POS deserves hell! He was bragging to the MickeyD staff about how drunk he was. He is being charged to lightly! I think he should be charged with first or second degree murder. He willfully slaughtered innocent people.

My prayers go out to the families crushed by this monster!

Max enhanced the shell of an article I incoherently started with and made it a real work. Thank you Max. I’ve been terribly busy recently and just didn’t put enough time into the research. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

      • matthewrmt says:

Great job Jason and/or Max! The article is well written with a perfect balance of pathos, humor, and outrage! Thanks for the write up!

How come there is no voting on it?

        • Max The Cat says:

Hehe…..Because the almighty editor forgot – AGAIN. Thanks for the kind words, but this is Jason’s story all the way, I just added a few details I found while I was fact checking. That doesn’t take a whole lot of talent. Jason set the tone of the story, and I really loved the subtle way he brought Michael Gagnon into the discussion.

    4. diana says:

My God the similarities are ridiculous! How many times does this shit have to happen before people REALIZE that we need to be putting capital murder charges on these fuckers? They would call it premeditated if someone fired a bullet into a crowd, right? At least California’s getting it right… Or trying to. I hope this lowlife gets everything he deserves. But somehow I doubt he will.

Jason- great write up. We share the same feelings on these drunk driving assholes, and for what I think are the same reasons.

Who’s doing the write up on the drunk soccer mom? That story broke my heart.

    5. Moop says:

The second picture… holy shit. Are you sure this isn’t Gagnon’s long lost twin?

    6. min_duhh says:

I just want to make a comment about Michigans Rules of The Road.
It seems like people who have moving violations have a much easier time retrieving their licenses after suspension/revocation than people with simple non-moving violations.
My aunt had a parking ticket she didn’t know about, it was put on her car during a wonderful Michigan blizzard and blew off becoming buried in the 3 foot drift. She didn’t know she had it until she tried renewing her license some months later and found out it was suspended. She also had a warrant for non payment. She went to court and fought it, and thanks to the internet she proved the ticket was lost due to the weather. (my cousin also found part of the ticket at the curb mangled and barely legible from being wet and covered by snow). She ended up not paying the ticket and the suspension was lifted. Apparantly tickets are supposed to be mailed in the winter.
My point is, I have never heard of people like this guy having such a hard time getting their licenses back. Honestly if they had a more difficult time quite possibly there wouldn’t be so many of these stories. Put the warrants out for moving violations and not the parking tickets.

    7. Dr. Smith says:

Jason great writing, and Max great helping. I just read the definition on Wikipedia for what The Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Writing is –
“For distinguished editorial writing, the test of excellence being clarity of style, moral purpose, sound reasoning, and power to influence public opinion in what the writer conceives to be the right direction.”

Well you guys certainly would deserve the award for this one!

This piece is written this so very well and I must say if you can gage how well with how insanely pissed off I am with this drunken asshole then it’s a 11 on a scale of 1-5! Very clear, precise and could clearly see your passion and broiling fury Jason, it was intense and trust me it did help stir my moral outrage!

I swear right now I feel just like Yosemite Sam in Buccaneer Bunny. Sam gets so angry that when he grinds his teeth they all break and fall out of his head. that is me!! Holy Shit!!

I looked up some stuff, seen some more pictures and I have to say it’s mind blowing anyone walked away from that accident but damn why did it have to be Grobbel? I shouldn’t wish death on anyone and yanno something I’m probably wishing death on the wrong person.

Why, Why, Why did he ever be able to get his license back let’s say after the third time he lost it (third times a charm, or three strikes rule, something!)? who’s the asshole who kept letting this fucking maniac back on the streets in the first place?

Ok wishing death on Grobbel is the right guy and Hell to follow but I do think their are some people who need to go to pits of Hell right along with him.

Unless they are of coarse retarded and in that case Screwtape and Wormwood will walk them to the special kinder/gentler Hell..a little fiery trailer parked just outside of Hell and these faceless dip shits can sit in a circle and bitch about who was stupid enough to land them all there for eternity.

    8. Chinchillazilla says:

I’ve decided. If I ever have to do something like try to assassinate a public figure at a rally, I’m going to get really shitfaced first. Because apparently enough booze makes you INVINCIBLE. And also really, really good at killing.

I hope this piece of shit’s family doesn’t show up here and trot out the usual “Bawww he was a good person bawww sob” song and dance. He doesn’t deserve to have anyone love him.

    9. Smiley says:

This kinda shit is so tragic and yet so avoidable. You know when I get drunk as hell? When I’m at HOME and staying HOME all night. Period. There is no reason to go drive your drunk ass around endangering everybody on the road. Either walk to go get some fast food, or have food in your house already. Lame. It’s sad how it’s the drunk who causes all the mayhem who always walks away. I know it’s because they’re loose as a goose at the moment of impact while their victim tense up as a refelx. But maybe it’s karma too….you know, you get to live with what you did now. I hope he gets a looooong time in prison to reflect on his bad decisions……

    10. Meg says:

I’m feeling many bad things towards that wanker and I’m completely speechless at the horror of this but just wanted to say, Jason, sensational write up. You certainly do have a way with words.
And nice editing as always of course Max :)
      Any word from Amy yet?

    11. Justin says:

Not sure if I heard it right, but it sounds like one or more of the people in the van had suspended drivers licenses. Unless it was the driver of the van, that really doesn’t mean anything. What sucks is, if it was the driver of the van, the defense will use it as an weapon against the prosecution, e.g. “He had a suspended license, he shouldn’t have been on the road, if only he had obeyed the law and not driven this accident would not have occurred…, etc.” Yeah, maybe. And perhaps Thomas would have smashed into another vehicle in that case. And if he had managed to make it to wherever he was going, then maybe he would have gotten drunk and killed someone another day. The only good that can come out of this is that he goes to jail and can never, ever drive a car again. Regardless of whether the driver’s license was suspended, it sounds to me like he was obeying speed limit signs and driving carefully. The defense will argue that somehow a drunk idiot with a valid license has more right to be on the road that a sober driver with a suspended license. We’ll see. Sucks for everyone. Drunk drivers are among that group of human trash I like to refer to as the SCUM OF THE EARTH.

      • Jason says:

The victim appears to have been completing the last of his education requirements to join the army, and I know license restrictions are a big no-no for recruits. After further investigation, a Jeanne Pruett, an admin at “A non-profit organization dedicated to educating the public and lawmakers about the misdirection of the current DUI laws,” made a fraudulent post on the web that both drivers had restricted licenses and were both drunk. No release I’ve found outside of this website, which has a particularly pro-DUI purpose supports that opinion, and more references on that page do as well.

      • motherof3 says:

you know what..I would rather have a driver with a suspended license on the road, compared to a severely inebriated one, who’s risking lives.

Sounds to me like this jackass is desperate to get out of facing the music.

    12. WINNIPEG, manitoba says:

you know what would have been sweet justice? if this fucker actually got his drunk ass out of his car and got smoked by ANOTHER car on the highway…..god that would have been perfect. I believe in “an eye for an eye”. I dont care he was someones son, so was the guy he killed. And some blame goes to the idiot at the drive through who could SEE the guy was liquored and instead of distracting him and calling the cops, let him drive off….I will bet any amount of money THAT kid feels like a piece of shit now…GOD what the hell is the world coming too?

    13. Fantomah says:

Ladies and gentlemen, that is the facial hair of a colossal douchebag. The cops should have taken one look at the beard and pulled him over before he could hurt anyone. I am pretty sure the goatee with the addition of those pubic-looking fuzzies at the points of his jaw constitute probable cause in most states.

      • The Bosses Secretary says:

I have to agree here. That weird goatee distracted me so badly it was hard to concentrate on the horrible accident. I’ve never SEEN a beard that freaky.

    14. Fred says:

Seems to me this man needs some “family”, so I will move the decimal place in my IQ to the left quite a bit……

Tommy boy here cried out for help at McDonalds and because they failed him, we are going to sue…. If they had intervened, none of this would have happened and Tommy would still have his truck.

As his older brother, I must say that when he’s not drinking, he is a good person, great kisser and an awesome lay!

      – I think that’s how his family would respond.

      • Paul says:

I’m getting sick of pointing this out to certain individuals, but I do believe that most of the INTELLIGENT people who frequent this site make savage comments as a form of stress relief. • USS Yorktown says:

Lighten up dude. Don’t come here if you don’t like it.

      • darlin says:

These people are not God and have no right to judge Tom and say those horrible things about him. Tom is a wonderful person and anyone who is family, or a friend to him is truley blessed to have him in their lives. I know Tom, and he’s got a very special place in my heart and I think the world of him. He made a mistake, and I am sure every one of these people who write these terrible things about him have too. Don’t listen to what these people say. You and I both know what kind of person Tom is.

        • USS Yorktown says:

To say Tom made a mistake is like saying Seung-Hui Cho made a mistake when he massacred 32 people at Virginia Tech. I am sure the parents of the 9/11 Terrorists said they were wonderful people and would harm anyone, who ended up killing 3,000 people.

          • darlin says:

That was all planned out. Tom did not have a plan in motion for this. He made a bad judgement call to drink and drive. I am not going to think anything different about him bercause of this. What happened was horrible and even resulting in someone’s death but I am not going to say bad things about him, or even think them because this happened. He is still a wonderful person and I think he’s paying for what happened and that he will live with this for the rest of his life. I can’t change my oppinion of him because this unfortunate thing happened.

            • Jason says:

Drinking and driving is no different than emptying an assault rifle downrange into a school yard full of kids. It’s just as stupid, has the same likelihood to kill and maim someone (I can give you the math, it would make your head spin given it’s based off of Vietnam era spray patterns of bullets from assault rifles) and should be treated the same.

Not a mistake, more than a bad judgment call, it was murder and you shouldn’t defend it. When he left the scene of the crime, he knew what he had done. Take a look at the pictures above. He plowed through a mini-van and didn’t stop to help his victims and then he ran away like a coward. That’s why he doesn’t even deserve the title human anymore. You can call him a friend a loved one a family member and more, but he’s a murderer and until he admits to it, there’s no redemption, there’s no release and there’s nothing he can do to get past it.

Buy a clue before you buy another beer and make the same “mistake” he did. This “mistake” has killed too many people already.

        • vcbecky says:

Darlin’, he drove drunk and destroyed some things. Including some innocent people and a poor, helpless McDonalds. He chose to drive drunk. It’s not like anyone should be surprised that driving drunk makes bad things happen. I know Ziggy has addressed the issue at least once in the Sunday comics, and it was addressed on an episode of Diff’rent Strokes at one point. Surely Thomas was aware of the stupidity he was about to commit.

Although I suppose he could have stumbled walking by a bar, tripped in an oil slick, skidded through the door and straight up to the bartender as he was pouring a beer, knocking the mug away from the tap with his head and accidentally replacing it with his own mouth. Of course he had to swallow major amounts of beer to keep from drowning. It all makes sense now!!

Love him. Be there for him. But don’t help him negate his own guilt by lying about his culpability. Do him the courtesy of being honest with him. And with yourself.

          • darlin says:

I’am not saying what he did was right, I am saying he still is a wonderful person and I am not going to change my oppinion of him because this happened. Every one in this world makes a wrong judgement call in their lives and yes it even is fatal. He is still a good person.

            • Jason says:

You’re a waste of air until you figure out that protecting a murderer from what he’s done doesn’t make you right, him right or save anyone’s life. What you’re doing endangers more lives. Wipe the stupid grin off your face and realize your friend Tom killed people because he was too suicidal or egotistical to give a damn about anyone other than himself. He could have killed you or someone you do care about and left them to bleed to death so he could escape punishment. Put yourself in the front seat of that mini-van and imagine looking around you at everyone in your family dead or dying around you. You heartless stupid pig of a moron, wake up and recognize that there’s a damn good reason to be so damn angry about this murdering son of a bitch and the stupid “decisions,” “judgments,” and “mistakes” assholes like him keep on making!

Shut your trap and learn something for a change. You can go read about Michael Gagnon for a second and then figure out why your boy Tom is nothing new around here, nor is your stupid defense of him. Start being a human being and put yourself in the place of the victims for a moment. It could save your soul and your life.

    17. Mike says:

Sad. He deserves everything they give him as an adult who is fully responsible for his actions.

Of course someone will eventually state that “The McDonald’s clerk is every bit as guilty for letting him continue to drive.” That always pisses me off.

    18. LoriC says:

This story reminds me of the loser that smashed into the rear of our car back in June. His license had been suspended since 2000, and he had been cited times for driving with a suspended license.
Luckily in our case, no one was hurt. But he managed to do $5000.00 worth of damage to our car-and of course he had no insurance either.

    19. Serene says:

My question is why didn’t the drive-thru staff report this guys drunk driving? Do they not share some of the blame for watching him ram into the divider and drive away clearly way to intoxicated to drive? I know that if I was working that drive-thru (worked in fast-food for 5 years) I would have felt a need to report him.

Here in BC (Canada) police often do stings on drive-thru’s as they are apparently a great place to catch drunk drivers. Maybe they should do that in Michigan.

      • Jason says:

My question is, how do you think the news reporters found out about the McDonalds unless some of the employees reported the drunk going over the concrete traffic divider and saying he was so drunk?

Sorry to slam you, but we’d never have known about the McDonalds if the crew there hadn’t done the right thing and called 911.

        • Serene says:

That may be true, however there is no solid indication in the story that the drive-thru staff called police.
It may be possible that police only found out after they arrived at the accident scene and retraced his last steps to the MacDonalds.
I suppose we will never know for certain…..

I really hate drunk drivers. I was a police officer for nearly 10 years and one of my special areas was DUI enforcement, I hunted drunk drivers day and night, whenever and wherever I worked. I saw some pretty nasty crashes and usually the drunk walked away. One of the worst cases I saw was an idiot who was a .32 BAC (about 4 times the legal limit) at 3PM on a Tuesday afternoon, driving around drinking straight shots of rum from a bottle on his lap. He was pinballing down both sides of the street, going curb to curb, never mind the kids out riding thier bikes and playing. Thank God he didn’t kill anybody. And unbelievably, he got a major shitty attitude with me when I arrested him, and went into a big tirade about facism, nazis, the police state in the USA, his constitutional rights, blah blah freakin’ blah….

The sad part is this scumbag will get manslaughter II, get 6 to 10 years serve 4 and be back behind the wheel in 5 claiming he is rehabilitated. Because of the egregious factors in this crime, level of impermanent and speed he should get 20 to 40 and loose his license for life.

      I truly hope I’m wrong.

War on drugs – lets remove cannabis and replace it with alcohol.

      • April says:

I’m actually a medical marijuana activist :) as well as conventional purposes. I do believe marijuana should be legalized, and alcohol not so much prohibited, but maybe stricter laws.

there is not one case of ANYONE dying from marijuana. not saying it should be ok to smoke and drive, but I can certainly guarantee there aren’t even near a fraction of alcohol abused deaths. Marijuana/hemp could seriously save our country.

        • Jason says:

How best to say this…. I don’t use marijuana, but I think it should be legal, sold with a government license, and strictly regulated and taxed. I think the laws on the books for alcohol are reasonably fair, save for the one that would require any ethanol I created on my own property for use in a combustion engine requires a permit to make, store and use, and must be poisoned with at least 5-15% gasoline.

That said, if you smoke a joint, drive any vehicle and then kill someone with your vehicle, I want you dead by lethal injection, hanging or the electric chair.

If you get drunk and drive a truck, car, lawn mower or any other vehicle, and kill someone, I want you dead.

I don’t think altered states that you choose to participate in should in any way alter the application of laws that reduce your rights and freedoms when you destroy another life.

I don’t care if you’re smoking marijuana to ease stomach pain caused by a gut wound you got stopping a terrorist from detonating a nuke, you get into a car after you’ve smoked up, and kill someone, you committed murder.

          • April says:

I do agree. I am not condoning smoking and driving by any means. I do not personally smoke marijuana anymore, but I still do believe it should be legal. It is very hard to see if anyone is under the influence of marijuana at the time of incident, so I see this as a major problem. Marijuana (more or less) stays in your system for about 30 days. If they can come up with a test that can accurately identify whether you are under the influence (at the time of incident) or not, could be one step closer to legalization, if not decriminalization. Hemp on the other hand (contains no THC) and the United states is one, if not the, only countries who do no use it industrially. insane.

            • NavyCop says:

Keeping it illegal just glorifies it. Criminalize alcohol during the prohibition? People still drank. Criminalize pot? People still smoke it. When will the government learn? Buncha dumbasses

            • April says:

I am not sure if it will be in our lifetime or not. If anything I’d like to see hemp industrialized here, in every state- not just select few. There are so many ways to use it all while being eco-friendly. Maybe if this kid had smoked a joint, he might of felt too lazy to drive.

    22. April says:

amazing… idiots.. why let him drive in the first place. it really urks me when this sort of thing should/could have been avoided.

    23. Jason says:

Sorry, don’t think that’s possible. Michael Gagnon was high on pot and 3 times the legal limit when he killed Bethany and the girls. Pot isn’t a better drug when you’re behind the wheel. No drug is good there.

      • April says:

didn’t realize there was a legal limit to pot :) lol. but i wasn’t saying it would have been better, just sayin maybe if he was stoned he would have felt to lazy to drive. but apparently not.

        • Jason says:

Sorry, misplaced modifier, yes 3 times on alcohol and 130 units on THC which is above the 80 units to be considered impaired. To stay conscious past 100, you have to be a heavy and habitual user.

          • April says:

what measurements of units? never heard of that. THC is measured in nl. 50 being the cuttoff limit for our law enforcement. A habitual user can have waaaaaaaaaaaay over that. and again, even if tested positive, it doesn’t necessarily mean they were under the influence at the time (marijuana) during the test.

            • Jason says:

Because smoked THC is rapidly transferred into the blood stream, THC levels in the blood rise quickly immediately after inhalation. Depending on the dose, THC typically reaches peak concentrations of more than 100 ng/mL five to 10 minutes after inhalation and then rapidly decreases to between one and four ng/mL within three to four hours.
However, the blood serum of moderate to heavy marijuana users may contain more than two ng/mL of THC at 24 or even 48 hours after smoking a single joint, a level that studies have shown does not produce impairment.[

              http://www.mpp.org/library/marijuana-and-dui-laws-how.html

I don’t know where you’re getting your numbers from, but some of mine came from here.

A blood test was used to determine Gagnon’s levels. If he’d tested in the 100 range, he was highly intoxicated and had smoked more than 2 joints. At 130, he took a hit from a gravity bong or had been smoking extensively through the night, had finished a joint within the last 30 minutes and was still feeling the effects. In 24 to 48 hours his levels would have been below 5, in 7 days it would have been nearly untraceable in his blood stream. This was not a urine test.
Alcohol may have had an effect on how long he stayed at those levels, but his levels are well above the norm.

As a side note, Delta-9-THC and to a lesser degree Delta -8-THC(which can’t be distinguished from Delta-9THC in a simple test) are the psychoactive components of marijuana use and can be used to determine impairment through a blood test to identify the comparative values against the long lasting component THC-COOH.

To a side note on effect, Delta-9-THC looks for open cannabinoid receptors in the brain and interrupt the normal flow of communication. When it affects the Cerebellum or Basal Ganglia, both prime candidates for high level doses, they greatly impair motor function because that’s the primary goal of the plant, to stave off a ruminant or insect that’s interested in eating them. At levels over 80, the cerebellum and the Basal Ganglia are typically saturated, and the average human being cannot drive effectively.

          • April says:

Ah I see. I get my numbers from urinalysis, I know they are facts :) I am an activist, and am very involved. I do NOT condone smoking marijuana and driving, or smoking on the job. I wasn’t sure what you were saying, I wanted clarification, so thanks for that. I hadn’t thought about them doing blood tests, duh me. That should have been obvious.

            • Jason says:

No worries, I want Marijuana “legalized” but heavily taxed(like 80 to 90% of the street level sale price) and regulated(like only at ABC stores), not because I want to use it, but simply to defray the costs of enforcement and open the door for a massive clemency system.

My principal interest in THC tests was in Gagnon’s case alone. I always wonder what the various drug tests I’ve taken have revealed, and whether anyone has ever scored lower.

            • April says:

ah yes. The positives of legalizing (and regulating) marijuana are far more greater then the negatives. I can’t say whether I would smoke or not, but I think it should be a choice anyone can make. I am all for it too, but at the same time I want hemp to be legal to farm as well. It would America’s very own Industrial Revolution. If you don’t know (but I am certain you do) there are so many things you can benefit from hemp alone, ranging from paper, fuels, oils, plastics, heck even food! All which are waaaaaaaay better for our environment. I can’t believe we’re still one of the ONLY countries who don’t have hemp as a primary resource.

I cried reading this story because it reminded me of Bethany and her girls. There is still not a day that goes by that I do not think of her, the girls, Danny, Jack and her sons. This story mimics hers so closely and brings the hurt to the surface again. This POS should be locked up with Gagnon… he probably needs a girlfriend by now.
Michigan and everywhere for that matter need tougher laws and penalties for these dirtbags. They are murderers and deserve to die!

    25. Kitty LeClaw says:

I find it strange (but not at all shocking) that Drunkee McGee received less “go to Hell” votes than many of the other nasties featured on this site.

Sadly, I believe this is due to the fact that most people who drink, and also drive, have been guilty of DRINKING & DRIVING at least once in their lifetimes. There is no such thing as a little bit drunk. Getting behind the wheel when you’re hammered is pre-meditated murder, whether you are successful in your attempt or not.

    26. Z.Ward says:

      Straight to hell. Congratulations idiot.

    27. Corset Lass says:

Great write up Jason!! While reading your words, it was like reading a reflection of my own thoughts as I was reading the article! The damage to that minivan is unbelievable and I am clearly amazed that any of the van’s occupants survived. It’s clear that Thomas Scott Grobbel is the guilty party in this horrific nightmare.

I can not feel anything but disgust when a defense attorney tries to bring up information in regards to the victims that he thinks will help to minimize the culpability of the defendant’s actions. I spent a number of years working as a legal assistant that specialized in child abuse/child sexual abuse/rape cases, & I saw many lawyers use these same underhanded tactics. I worked on several cases helping the prosecutors convict people of cases just like this, and it is heartwrenching listening to the families because you can not help but feel their pain. After many years of working many cases like the ones written about on PYSIH, it took its toll on me emotionally, mentally, and physically. I decided to leave the law field because it would eat me alive inside when someone that was clearly guilty would get off the hook because of a technicality. The child sexual abuse and rape cases were the hardest for me to deal with. I was a victim of child sexual abuse that started at the age of 3 and I was later a victim of rape on two times by one man and raped once by another man. Because of my experiences with sexual abuse and rape, I wanted to help others. I have also met many others that began a career in the law field because they were also motivated by an event in their own life that gave them the desire to help others that were affected by a similar event. I worked with an attorney who became a lawyer after he lost his sister at the hands of a drunk driver. This lawyer is a wonderful man who has worked to convict people that have committed crimes just like Thomas Scott Grobbel because he is motivated to help the victims and their families. I wish there were more lawyers like this man in the world.

To the victims and their families……I am so sorry for the pain and suffering that you are all enduring. I will keep you in my thoughts and I send my sincerest condolences.

    28. Paul says:

The fact that the others had been drinking has nothing to do with Grobbel’s guilt. It just shows that It was a mistake that was not properly avoided. The fact that they were drinking and driving as well, just shows that they also lacked responsibility to protect themselves and others, just not to the extent of Grobbel.

I find your sarcasm and near mockery of the situation disgusting to both families and cannot wait until the regular patrons and administrators of this site face judgement of their own.

Judge not lest ye be judged.

It was a horrid mistake on his part, he’s got consequences to face, and several lives changed. But I find it revolting that A website would exist for such a purpose.

I’ll be seeing YOU in hell.

      • ferrets says:

Lets see, but for the fact that Grobbel deliberately decided to commit the illegal action of drinking and driving he would not have been involved in this particular accident. Any actions by the deceased do not negate his responsibility for his deliberate decision to drink and drive. A mistake is when you forget to pay your Visa bill and incur a late charge, committing a crime is not. It does appear that you yourself are judging if you have decided we are all going to hell ??
If you find the website revolting no one is forcing you to read it now are they?

And I will reiterate, everyone in this country with a driver’s license has been told over and over that if you drink and drive you may kill someone or injure someone and you are breaking a law. Drinking and driving is not a mistake, it is a criminal activity that endangers others and I find it incredibly offensive that you would negate the deaths and injuries of all the victims of drunk driving by calling it a “mistake”

      • Jason says:

Might help if you read beyond Matthew 7:1 and finish the chapter before you spout off about the limits of judgment.

16Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
17Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
18A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
19Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
20Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

    29. Fester says:

Tell me exactly who the hell you think you are to “poll” the people on the internet as to the whereabouts of a person’s soul? Did you know Thomas??? no. Have you ever made any mistakes??? I’m sure of it. I’m not saying he is justified in his mistake/s, however, that is something he and he alone will have to live with for the rest of his life. He IS a friend of mine and I know how he feels about this. Everybody on this fucking planet has something they wish they could change in their past, whether it’s something as petty as a bad relationship or something as severe as manslaughter. Don’t just condemn Tommy. Think about the girl in the McDonald’s drive-thru who could have held his food as she called the cops. She is at fault too. Not as much, but still she could have put a stop to this. She could have stopped Andrew Ross from dying as easy as Tommy could have not gotten behind the wheel. Ask yourself if she is going to hell too. Put her face up here with Tommy’s. If you don’t know, she admited that she should have called the cops… but she didn’t. If there is a hell, she’s gonna be there with him. She’s like the bartender who doesn’t take the keys. And get your facts straight. The McDonalds was in Warren, not Royal Oak. Do your fucking research before you get high and mighty judging people, which if you are religious and DO believe in hell, only God can do. You 15 minutes of fame seeking, sitting behind your computer, self serving fuck.

*the ‘hold’ music for Hell is terrible. Bagpipe renditions of Milli Vanilli…*

“Mr. Zebub? Beez, how ya doin, you old flamer! How’re the kids? And Cerberus, is he still doing number 4 on your bed? HAH! Well, just rub his noses in it. He’ll learn.

Listen, Beezie buddy, there’s this guy named Grobbel that your boss, Max the Cat, has slated for arrival soon. Can you do me a solid and send him to the Other Guy? Fester is yelling at us on the internet about it and you know how horribly responsible that makes us feel. Yeah, me too. Apparently Grobbel is a personal friend of Fester’s so obviously there’s been some mistake. Yeah, an ‘Official Personal Friend of Fester’ so we gotta let him slide. I’m sorry, Beezie, but you’ll have to save the pink tutu and the garden gnomes for Powell. I hear he’s your newest arrival, go have fun with him now. Thanks man!

Hey, next time you’re topside, give me a ring! We should do coffee!”

        *click*

There ya go Fester. It’s all taken care of. Tommy has nothing to worry about, we’ve fixed it up with the Devil for you.

        Pffft.

      • mulch says:

Are you afriend for a “friend”? Do you play the woman or does he? Doy ou swallow or do you like to take that climax in th cornhole?

You know fruitboots a mistake wold be forgetting to drop off the laundry at the drycleaners when yer hubby tells you to. Getting shitfaced and killing people is murder. Pure and simple.

No one told him to got and and drink. Or did you threaten to withhold his nightly BJ if he didn’t? No one told him to get in his car. No one told him to put his key in the ingition. No one told him to drive anywhere. So fuck you and fuck yer “friend”.

No worries his bunghole will be nice and big for ya when you go “visit” him. I am sure he will be tired of playing the woman.

OH and the woman at the drive thru is not trind to ID drunks. Sher is trained to take orders and fill those orders. She was doing her job. No do yers and go visit yer “friend” I am sure he needs a good blowjob from you.

      • Max The Cat says:

Fester, Fester, Fester What’s the matter pal, you can’t face the fact that you buddy Tommy is a murdering loser? The coward didn’t even have the guts to plead straight up guilty, instead copping to a No Contest plea. But He’ll have lots of time to think about what he did, right Fester? Eight to fifteen years in a Michigan state prison may even teach him something about personal responsibility. I mean, Tommy not only got VERY drunk the day of the accident, he also smoked pot and popped some Xanax too. It’s a wonder he was even coherent.

So how’s that for research, dickhead. If you go back to the articles from that day, half had the McDonald’s in Royal Oak, and half had it in Warren, so fucking sue me if I picked the wrong one. I mean it is such an important detail anyways.

And, ready people, one more time with feeling – The poll is not a literal vote on whether a particular criminal should go to some kind of religious hell. It’s just a representation of peoples anger and disgust. As much as we’d like to be able to send asshole like you friend Tommy Grobbel straight to hell, we aren’t nearly arrogant enough or selfr-ighteous enough to think we’re qualified for the job.
