FOUR YEARS AFTER KILLINGS IN HINGHAM, ALLEGED SKINHEADS WANT MURDER CHARGES DROPPED

Four years after two homeless men were bludgeoned to death in their makeshift home in the woods here, two alleged skinheads who were later charged in the killings are fighting to have the case against them dismissed.
There is no indication that murder charges will be dropped against Eric J. Snow, of Bridgewater, and James S. Winquist, of Weymouth, who have been incarcerated since their arrest in September 2007.
But a Superior Court judge has granted the men broader-than-usual leeway in their attempt to establish that prosecutors tainted the grand jury that indicted them by, among other things, not disclosing favors given to witnesses in exchange for their testimony.
Last month, Judge Jeffrey A. Locke ruled that lawyers for Snow and Winquist could put four grand-jury witnesses back on the stand at a hearing to dismiss the case. The state has appealed the decision to the Supreme Judicial Court.
The unresolved legal question prolongs a case that began in May 2005 when the decomposing bodies of David P. Lyons, 46, and William P. Chrapan, 44, were discovered in a former ammunition bunker in Bare Cove Park where they had been living. Chrapan’s right hand had been hacked off, and an autopsy showed both men had been beaten.
Police said the killings were among the most senseless and savage the town had seen. Their investigation lasted for close to 2 1/2 years and, ultimately, led to Snow and Winquist, who are now 27 and 25, respectively.
Each of the men have lengthy criminal histories, and police said they belonged to a white supremacist group called “Brotherhood of Blood.” Snow’s nickname, “Killa,” is tattooed on his neck. Winquist’s nickname, “Twisted,” is tattooed on his back.
In August, Snow’s attorney, Gerald T. FitzGerald, requested a psychological evaluation of his client, according to documents filed in court.
A key part of the case against the men was testimony from witnesses who said Snow and Winquist boasted of the killings at a party and displayed Chrapan’s severed hand after digging it up from where they had initially buried it.
Lawyers for the men argue that prosecutors should have disclosed to the grand jury favors the witnesses received and information on the witnesses’ own histories, including criminal records, mental health issues and biases against the defendants.
“We believe had that been done, the outcome would have been different,” Joseph F. Krowski Jr., an attorney for Winquist, said Tuesday.
Krowski declined to elaborate on their allegations.
Two of the witnesses, David Courage, 19, and Kelly Burgess, 30, have been relocated under witness protection, according to court records.
According to another witness, the defendants pulled out Chrapan’s severed hand at a party and placed it on the shoulder of a 23-year-old named Anthony “T-Bone” Medas. Medas, however, told authorities the incident never occurred, according to court records, a statement defense attorneys say the grand jurors never learned.
Records also show defense attorneys argued that one witness apparently avoided criminal charges for a parole violation after he provided information on the case to investigators.
John E. Bradley, assistant district attorney for Plymouth County, declined to discuss particulars of the ongoing matter, but said Judge Locke took an unusual and “wrong” step in ruling the four witnesses could be called to testify. He said he hoped a trial would be set by late fall or early winter.
A list of 35 potential witnesses has been compiled. Among them is Ryan Bois, the 23-year-old now serving life in prison for raping and murdering his 6-year-old cousin Joanna Mullin in Weymouth in August 2007. Authorities said Bois repeatedly called Winquist the night Mullin was killed but have not elaborated on the two men’s relationship.
I found this to be an amazingly fair and balanced story, giving equal weight to both sides of the issue. It was left to us, the readers, to decide who is in the right. There is one thing that I’d like to point out: The Grand Jury proceedings are NOT a trial. The prosecution only has to show that it has sufficient evidence for an indictment. I don’t believe they had an obligation to present the things the defense has brought up – that’s what the actual trial is for.
I’m very curious to see if the prosecution’s appeal of Judge Jeffrey A. Locke’s decision is successful, and how much weight Judge Locke actually gives those four witnesses if they do end up testifying at Winquist’s and Snow’s dismissal hearing.

I agree that the state has a pretty thin case against Eric and James, or they would have tried them already. While I feel in my gut that they did it, I wouldn’t be surprised if they were acquitted. Sometime murders just don’t get solved to anyone’s satisfaction. That’s the price we pay for the justice system we have. But Lyons and Fuller will always be dead, and the people who killed them will have to carry that guilt for the rest of their lives. I don’t envy them – I know it would eat me alive.

Blackfoot people are more closely related to Asians than to Northern Europeans. Genetically there’s not tons of difference between any of us, and no one on earth is more distant from you than your 40th degree cousin anyway.

It’s one thing to be proud of your ancestors, and therefore your ancestral heritage – I have many entertainers, scientists and intellectuals in my family history. If all you’ve got to be proud of is the color of your skin, that’s really nothing at all. Winquist was my age and I never saw him in the local elementary (and he would have been at my elementary, had he lived in Rhodes Circle as a kid), middle school, or HHS. Yep, I went to all the way thru Hingham public schools (elementary-> HHS) and never saw this fellow. Where was he during these formidable years? Did they always live in Hingham? I did a check with HHS friends and I have yet to find out who this kid was, though my uncle claims he knew his father, in Hingham High (circa late 60′s). I do not know if this is true.
I just bring this up because I was amazed there was someone in my area of Hingham my exact age I did not know. This is a tight town and the public school system is very encompassing.

One more, with a little more information on the victims, which seems fairly scant.
It is not that we are all one race it is that race does not exist, at least it does not exist outside of our minds. African Americans have black skin because they produce more melanin cells. They produce more melanin cells to deal with the hot sun and have thick wavy hair that sticks up off of their head to deal with the heat. Also they have wider nasal appatures to deal with humidity. Caucasions are white because they do not produce as many melanin cells because their ancestors came from places that are not that sunny. Caucasions have thinner noses so that the cold air can warm before it reaches their lungs. Every difference in every different group of people has an evolutionary purpose. The way that we are all put together in different ways is no accident. We are built to survive and to adapt to our surroundings.

I am happy to announce we are finally progressing towards trial. The motion (which lasted almost 2 years) to have the case dismissed was denied by the judge!
Maybe, just maybe, Bill, Dave and our families will finally get justice!
I am so glad to hear that those to will stand trial, now my biggest prayer is that they are found guilty of this hanious crime and will rot in prision. times like these make me wish Mass had the death penalty!
We should know more towards the end of August regarding a trial. The end of August also marks 4 years since the arrests were made… It’s been more than 6 years since the murders took place.

It is rather obvious you have no idea about the roots of the skinhead movement. I happen to be a skinhead and have been for a good 20 years now. They loved Ska, regge, jazz, country, punk, Oi!, wave. Quick to fight but with a love of friends and beer. The working class skins were born!
In the mid 80′s in Englant the nationalst movement picked up momentum. Yes the nazi boneheads scumbags in jolly ol england. The looked at the skins at shows and like the respect they commanded. So they coppied the “costume”. After the first serious racist motivated major crime in Manchester in 86, the press picked up on the problem but used the wrong label. Calling the guily racists skinheads. The name stuck and here we are today.
I know redskins (communists) AntiFa (communists) boneheads (nazi party but non violent) regge skins, and me a guy that loves his brew, loves his scene and will fight for his family and friends.

No, it’s because the trial is still in its beginning phases. The only thing that has been granted is the defendants’ request to question four witnesses.

Please provide the source of any posting like this. This particular issue has been so hotly contested, that parties like Max, myself and NavyCop, follow the actual trial documents and I think(like myself) we pay for services or receive them through our employment, that can give us an aggregation of background information on these defendants.
What’s going on is the legal equivalent of a Poker Player, slow playing a hand. Motion after motion, lengthy requests for discovery, slowly wear down the witnesses and the prosecution, while the defense begs for some kind of deal. If the prosecution does not cut the deal, the defense keeps playing the hand, knowing that if the judge makes a false move or motion, a weak appellate judge may hand them, even convicted and sentenced, some sort of reprieve. If these two men were innocent and could counter the case of the prosecution in a court of law, they’d have stepped up and faced their charges already. They’re not innocent. They murdered these two men, and their supporters constantly come here, telling one lie after another, trying to discredit the information on this site.
I don’t know who or what you are, but I’m hoping you’re just a local whose frustrated with the pace of justice in your town. I don’t know who this ditsy blonde is, but if she’s a relative or “sexual partner” former or current of one of the accused, I’d ask you to disregard her sentiment as blinded by the attention seeking nature of her own personality. If she’s merely under-informed, please pass on the correction with our compliments.

I have no idea where all of you get your information, but as the sibling to one of the victims I can tell you there has been NO dismissal and there has not been any written news since April 2010.
I have been in the courtroom for nearly every appearance over the last 4 years since the arrests, am in frequent contact with our victim advocate in the DA’s office and will continue to be the voice for my brother.
I will also tell you that as of today. The case has officially transferred to the trial session and the trial date has been scheduled for February 6, 2012.
Those are the facts!
Thank you for the update. I get my information from a legal clearing-house. Court proceedings are polled as soon as the clerk releases them. We’ve been trying our best to squash the angry posts whenever possible.

I picked up Snake at Hingham court house, and read the entire transcript of the Case…. I knew alot of the people involved, because of my former boyfreind. I got lots of info from other documentation too. I heard lots of stories, met a couple of informants, met others from the Brother Hood of Blood……PEOPLE ARE LYING.- YET SKINHEAD ARE SICK AND BRAINWASHED, with no guilt or remorse for their crimes. MAYBE THEY ARE BETTER OFF TO NOT BE SOCIETY. They harm everybody who gets in their way. KILLERS!!!!!!!!!!! HULL COPS…….STAY AWAY ORDER……………Guilt….CONFESSION….DANGEROUS AND SOCIOPATHS…….BLUE Knows it ALL-HE WAS BEST FREINDS WITH DAVE AND BILL, and lived in the tent next to them in the camp site in Hingham. Why are the Hull Cops holding Johnathon Winquest in jail? They have a 10,000.00 bail on him. Even his Mother states she does not why. He went to pay a ticket, and he went straight to jail.

You’d have to pretty stupid to testify against these two ADA/DA pushing you or not. There is no physical evidence besides the hand and no solid witness’s at all. I doubt a conviction even if Cruz himself gets the trial. Cops fabricate problems and create criminals alot of the time here. My favorite – He put no markings or abrasions on judith in the police report and said “I beat my mother”. I smacked the ADA in the head with a folder explaining such with several other things and waived counsel. Dropped the complaint off both places.

Defense attorneys asked for a continuance. There will be a hearing before that date to have the cases severed.
