Antoinette Nicole Davis and Mario Andrette McNeill
Let’s talk about something that will brighten everyone’s mind–Sexual Slavery. A PBS and US State Department report said that as many as 800,000 people are transported across international borders each year for the sex trade. As many as 17,500 are believed to be trafficked into the United States, but apparently, those 17,500 foreign sex slaves weren’t enough for Mario Andrette McNeil and Antoinette Davis.
They’ve only recently been arrested, and their victim, Shaniya Davis was only found yesterday, so we don’t even have an autopsy. Antoinette’s sister thinks the charges are false, and Antoinette has not yet entered a plea, so I do feel a bit uncomfortable about establishing a poll, but this is the sort of story that knifes the average reader of PYSIH in the heart. Why would I inflict this on you? My physical proximity to the case has already left a gaping emotional wound in my soul, and my mother always taught me to share.
This is Antoinette Davis. She’s accused of offering her 5 year old daughter up for prostitution. A judge informed her she’s facing 40 years in prison. She does seem to have two jobs, and Shaniya was the product of a one night stand with Bradley Lockhart. Bradley raised Shaniya for most of her life alongside his seven year old son, but had allowed Shaniya to live with her mother, starting about a month ago–a decision he now regrets bitterly. 
Antoinette lived with her boyfriend, initially a suspect, but since cleared of charges so far.
Here we have the beautiful victim herself. We don’t really know what happened to her yet, but Antoinette’s back porch was littered with human feces, as was a blanket that someone threw away in her neighbor’s garbage can. Police found the blanket with a police dog, but forensic results aren’t back from the state lab, to conclusively link them to the girl. After finding the blanket, Bradley Lockhart made an impassioned plea on national television for his daughter’s safe return.
“Drop her off at Wal-Mart, anywhere, I don’t care – just so somebody can find her and bring her back to the people that love her,”
“She’s a precious, little angel, full of joy,” he said. “A little reserved when you first meet her, but once she gets to know you, she just runs around, plays and won’t leave you alone.”
His sister added:
“I just ask that, at this time, please just let her go,” said Shaniya’s aunt, Carey Lockhart-Davis. “She doesn’t deserve this. Have a kind heart.”
Heart breaking… just heart breaking, especially when you add Mario Andrette McNeil into this equation.
Oh him? He’s the man who is accused of kidnapping Shaniya, who Antoinette, Shaniya’s mother, may or may not have sold her to for sex. (click here for McNeill’s arrest record)

Are these folks guilty? Is there going to be a poll for them? Not yet. Not yet. I’m holding out hope that there’s a giant misunderstanding here. I’m holding out a little bit of hope that Mario carried the girl into his motel room and spent the whole night teaching her how to play Canasta, and that the disposal of Shaniya was a confused woman disposing of a body after a horrible accident…

Mario McNeill is charged with first-degree murder and first-degree rape of a child in his arrest warrant, which was issued after police said they collected hair and fibers, clothes, and a straw from his 1997 Mitsubishi Galant.
Damn it. Just damn it all to hell. Mario apparently raped, then strangled the girl to death.
Police say Antoinette Nicole Davis gave her daughter Shaniya to Mario Andrette McNeill for the puposes of prostitution. Simply put, Davis turned her five-year-old daughter into 
fucking sex slave in order to cover a large drug debt she had.
Mario McNeill was caught on a surveillance camera at the Comfort Suites hotel in Sanford, North Carolina, carrying Shaniya Nicole Davis into a room. An employee at the hotel thought he recognized the little girl from new reports and phoned police, but by the time they arrived McNeill and the girl had checked out.
On Monday afternoon, November 16th, 2009, police recovered the body of 5-year-old Shaniya Nicole Davis. She had been dumped along the side of the road about six miles from her home. She’d been suffocated to death.

Stormy, I am a liberal. I stumped for Obama and even work for a charity owned by John Edwards (though I think what he did to Elizabeth was horrible). I’m a progressive liberal. It means that I believe we need to move forward in small steps, that a giant step in a single direction can in fact slow us down, hurt a particular idea whose time has not yet come and generally bring down a strong nation.
I think the death penalty is barbaric, dangerous and destructive, but I think it is less destructive than failing to remove monsters from the body of the State and an injustice to the victims of crime if we fail to deliver the death penalty when it is so richly deserved. I think the death penalty is a necessity in these barbaric times. In a time without the rape and murder of a five year old, the death penalty will be unnecessary, just as a time with universal birth control that a woman can turn on and off as she sees fit, will prevent the need for Abortion.
I know we still need militarism and with it the military. When we’ve finished with people being hungry, sick and/or poor, we can probably set our guns aside. In the meantime, incremental steps rather than broad strokes of an idealistic brush that tars what we need with unneeded … well tar.

Yeah, I should have mention the death penalty – we have both sides of the issue represented here. PYSIH itself neither supports nor opposes capital punishment. Personally, I think it’s needed, but not the way it’s applied now – too many mistakes are made, and too often race and class is a deciding factor.
Again Jason you do make some sense man and maybe i am being naive and idealistic but we have a duty not to be lowered to the criminals level……
Like in war man if we have the moral high ground we can not engage in dirty brutal tactics even though the enemy might be employing them (car bombs, killing of civilians/hostages all that shit). Shaniya lived about 5 minutes away from me; ever since this happened, not a day has gone by that I dont think of her, and the physical and mental anguish she must have gone thru, as the last bit of her life slipped away from her tiny body. I didnt even know her personally but IT HURTS LIKE HELL, when I think of her and see those hotel surveillance videos. A fuckin innocent, trusting child, look how she had her hand on his shoulder. That idiot mother handed her Lamb into the clutches of a Wolf, and the bitch knew it.
*** Here’s sumthin they didnt release in the news to the public, that almost caused me to be physically ill: I talked to one of the dumbass sisters of the Mother of Shaniya at a candlelight vigil in front of Shaniya’s house, and she said that when they had to view her body in the morgue after they found Shaniya in the field, she was covered with bruises. Yes, the SICK FUCK raped, beat, and choked that angel to death. I called the aunt a dumbass because she is just like the mother of Antoinette – defending that piece of shit mother.
Also, a neighbors son was outside smoking that morning (because his mother didnt allow smoking in the house) and he actually witnessed McNeill taking Shaniya out to the car. He stated that he was tellin her to “shut the hell up” and “get your ass in the car”. ARRRRRGGGGGH!!! IT JUST MAKES ME SO ANGRY!!!! I wish I could cradle Shaniya the way he did in that hotel video, only I would be carrying her to safety; to her aunt and her dad, and her warm bed and her room full of toys, where any 5 year old girl deserves to be.
OMG MY HEART STILL ACHES SO MUCH FOR THIS LITTLE GIRL. WHY? WHY HER? WHY LIKE THIS?
This aunt also stated that McNeill has always been crazy and mean as hell. Always. She claims she actually feared him.
*** I’ll tell you sumthin else too (that the news doesnt know) and it might be of some consolation to you all — from an inside source at the Fayetteville PD, I know that THAT SMIRK HAS BEEN WIPED OFF OF MCNEILLS FACE believe that! A lot of things go on behind closed doors of jails and such (by the guards and inmates). And you can judge and say its not right to hurt someone in captivity, but FUCK THAT. He deserves any and every type of judicial AND vigilante justice that comes his way!!!! And trust me, there ain’t a man (nor woman) alive in Fayetteville, that wouldnt wanna get their hands around that neck of his.
I have never had a case touch me so deeply, and I’m gonna follow this case until the last bang of the gavel for both of the perpetrators, because I am so anxious to see them get their just punishments.

Oh man, Tabitha. As if this story wasn’t bad enough. Hearing the way he was talking to her during the whole thing just made me cry. Can you imagine how frightened and confused she was? Thank you for the additional information. I was in the same place as you are when little Emma Leigh Barker was killed. She lived about ten miles away from me and I, to this day, follow her case very closely. I also visit her grave frequently and bring her flowers. I didn’t go to her funeral because, even though it was public, I didn’t know if there were going to be citizens of the community there, and I didn’t want to disrespect the family if there weren’t. But, I did go to the cemetery a few hours later and left her some flowers and a toy. So I know how it is to mourn the loss of someone who you didn’t even know, but their story hits so close to home that you feel like you did know them, and they were someone you loved. My heart breaks when I think of what that precious baby girl had to endure. I am so glad to hear that they are taking care of this sick fuck in prison. I hope he lives a long, tormented life. And I hope the mother is getting her’s too. God doesn’t like ugly.
Nicole thank you for the comments regarding Emma Barker. For all extents and purposes she has been forgotten in the press and I’m so afraid her murderer will be getting off with a slap on the wrist. (A family member divulged she was offered a plea deal of 15 years earlier this fall. But she turned it down) Her latest hearing was postponed again, but not before her attorney requested she be allowed to wear long johns. I guess the princess is cold sleeping alone in her cell. I suggest she enjoy that chilled to bone feeling as I believe that although D/P is not on the table, she will die eventually and for eternity she’ll roast in hell along side her hero KC Anthony.
SB has already confessed to the police and while I know the PD is going to try to discredit the Sheriffs Office, GOOD LUCK!! at one of the prelims we heard:
“….she told the Det that she did it because she didn’t want Emma to turn out like her, knocked up early and living at home with the parents! her mom and dad lost it when she said that! witch!”
she also explained how she did it, of course it was all an accident that she kept her hand plastered to her baby’s face until she was no longer breathing but last I heard smothering someone was called murder.

You know, even if she does by some crazy chance get off with a slap on the wrist, she has to live with herself, the way her family feels and thinks of her, her reputation which is destroyed (good luck getting a job, being in a relationship, etc.), and go on living a life in ruins, basically. I heard somewhere that she had said that about her not being able to take care of her. What a cop-out. If that were the case, she should have thought of that when she got pregnant and had an abortion, because even that would have been better than what she did. And what I find mind-boggling (I know several people who know the Barkers), is it seems to me, she wasn’t even really the one raising Emma. It was her parents and her brother Nick. I also heard somewhere else that her boyfriend didn’t want a ready made family, and so he wasn’t going to stay with her, and that’s why she killed Emma. It makes me so sick to think about the whole thing. How do you do that to your baby? And yeah I agree with you, accident my ass. It takes a good two or three minutes to suffocate someone. That’s two or three minutes that she could have come to her senses and stopped. She knew god damn well what she was doing. And then to add insult to injury, she dumps her like garbage on the side of the road leaving her at the mercy of whatever elements were out there. I guess what aggravates me more than anything is that for the longest time, I defended her. I felt sorry for her.
I have wanted to go to the hearings on many occasions, but to be honest. I don’t think I could handle it. My thoughts are bad enough, but to have to confront it head-on would be too much.
I am so heartbroken for her family. Especially this time of year, because I cannot imagine what they are going through. And that bitch deserves to be cold. Her baby is lying cold in the ground right now, she should have to sit cold in her cell for the rest of her life.

Shaniya’s funeral this past Sunday was beautiful. Thousands of Fayetteville residents turned out; the place was packed. The story of this little 5 year old girl united Black, White, Rich, Poor, Young, and Old….it didnt matter who you sat next to in that church, because we all wanted to pay our respects, and mourn her together.
I’m not religious, but I did agree when the pastor said that sometimes people can accomplish so much in a short amount of time. Some people live a very long time, and dont accomplish much, or improve the world in any way….but then you have people like Shaniya, who only get to stay here for a small moment in time, yet have such an impact on the lives of hundreds and thousands….
And if this story can prevent even just

I am African-American, and I admit, I hate that I share a nationality with the perpetrators of this crime, I really do. But let us all not forget that EVERY race/ethnicity has people in it, that shame the others who share it with them.
If we disrespect each other racially on this board, we disrespect Shaniya (because she was biracial), and it would a total contradiction of the unity that her death provided a lot of people. Don’t let her death be a catalyst to a message board full of racial slurs, stereotypes, and offensive eptitaphs….

You don’t have to worry about the Racial stuff Tabitha – I allow pretty much anyone to post an opinion about our stories, but I have always kept the site free of racist, homophobic and anti-Semitic slurs. I’ve seen some of those same comments that you mention, and it’s heartbreaking to see how a hand full of ignorant morons can use a tragedy like this to advance some ridiculous and long ago debunked ideology.
I really want to thank you personally for all the information you’ve shared with us about this case. The more we know about how it went down, the more sure we are about the guilt of not Mario and Antoinette.
While I was working on Jason’s story, getting it ready for publishing, I was in a foul mood. Usually a story like this will break my heart, but this on just plain pissed me off. It became clear to me that little Shaniya was kept on the porch like a caged animal, with no toilet access. and only let out when mom had a trick for her.
Can you imagine, pimping out your own 5-year-old daughter? I have two grown daughters in their late teens/early 20s, and I remember how innocent and trusting they were at 5 years old. What a betrayal by Antoinette….

Yes, its not just the element of sadness and empathy we could feel for her, but also the ANGER. I think what also causes this case to hit people so viscerally, is that hotel surveillance video. When you see it, your mind goes to all kinds of places – what happened after they got off the elevator? Look how innocent she looks (with a plaid giraffe in her hands, my god). And then you feel like, dang IF ONLY something had happened to intervene (if only the dad hadnt let her go live with her; if only the cops had shown up at the Comfort Inn on time, etc)

As human beings, whenever something horrific happens that causes loss of life, the way that we deal with it, is thru rationalization. The Indian Ocean tsunami killed thousands and it was sad BUT, we know the physics of what happenend and Why. A little Fayetteville 4 year old boy died of a sickness on the same day that Shaniya did, and it was sad BUT we could at least rationalize and understand his death….
But what makes this case so hard to get over is, we can NEVER even begin to understand what sick atrocities and desires went thru the minds of these people to do this to Shaniya. We cant make SENSE of it. Its like adding 2 + 2 and coming up with 5 repeatedly. It doesnt compute to our brains, and therefore its almost like a broken record, going over and over. I havent asked myself “WHY” about any other thing in my life. The only question I’ve asked more than “why” is “HOW?”. What cold-hearted monster does this?
You cant even call these people animals, because animals at least have the instinct to protect their offspring at all costs. And if they do kill them, usually its because there was some instinct in them that led them to believe it was for the best (ie, when a dog eats a sickly puppy). MONSTER is the term that suits this occasion.

I can understand crimes against adults by adults. Right or wrong I get it. People steal from each other to profit, people fight and kill each other out of rage or out of jealousy or sometimes they kill even for the smallest difference. And men rape women out of a desire for control over and sometimes out of pure lust and impulses. I get that.
What I don’t get are crimes against children. Children are by their very being small, weak, fragile, gullible, and of course innocent. There is nothing more defenseless than a 5 year old girl against a grown man. How can this man become sexually aroused by a 5 year old girl? The guy isn’t hideous or retarded; he’s a decent looking guy who should have no problem getting a date from a woman above 18. How do you get turned on by a child? You sick f..!
How can this man then beat this child to cause bruises? How could you hit such a cute small little person. One that poses no challenge at all to you? It’s like drop kicking a puppy or baking a kitten… Oh wait that has been done! And then he chokes this beautiful little girl till she stops moving. How can this man do that?
How can this man then take the lifeless body of this child and chuck it onto the side of a deserted road like a fast-food bag with rolled up burger wrappers and loose fries. Like trash that no longer serves a purpose. How can this man do that?

Oddly, I just saw “Law Abiding Citizen” yesterday with my boyfriend and I’m having movie flashbacks.
Wow! I don’t know how any mother can do that to their child, i have 3 kids of my own who are interricial(i’m mexican my husband is black) so this story really touches me. I couldn’t imagine allowing someone to hurt my child. the mother & the perp should both be raped,beaten, and strangled, i know it won’t bring baby girl back but they deserve to feel the pain she went through……

I thought you guys would like this….FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Basketball star Shaquille O’Neal paid for the funeral of a 5-year-old North Carolina girl after being moved by national news coverage of the case of Shaniya Davis, who police say was kidnapped and killed.
The Cleveland Cavaliers player was touched by the stories he saw and got in touch with the family to see what he could do to help, a spokeswoman for O’Neal said Thursday.
More than 2,000 people attended the girl’s funeral Sunday. Her body was found Nov. 16 beside a rural road.
Her mother, Antionette Davis, who had reported the child missing six days earlier, is charged with human trafficking and child abuse involving prostitution. Mario McNeill is charged with murder, rape and kidnapping in the case.
“I was sitting at home watching it on the news and the story brought a tear to my eye,” O’Neal told The Cleveland Plain Dealer newspaper.
Corey Breece, of Rogers and Breece Funeral Home, which handled the service, declined to tell the Fayetteville Observer newspaper how much it cost but added that a child’s funeral “averages around $4,500.”
A man who answered the phone at the funeral home Thursday told the AP that only the owner could comment and that he was away.
Shaniya Davis’ father, Bradley Lockhart, and his family had set up a trust fund in memory of Shaniya to help raise money to pay for the funeral. Lockhart was not available to talk Thursday, said a man who answered the phone at his home.
O’Neal is recovering from a shoulder injury that has sidelined him for six straight games since getting hurt Nov. 12 against Miami.

Chilibreez, I agree. I talk a lot about the idea that the ability to restrain our baser instincts is what separates us from the monsters in many cases. I wonder sometimes what could possibly push me over the edge. It’s not a matter of self-righteousness, it’s a matter of contemplating my own limits. I deeply admire the strength it takes to face a situation like this, become involved and keep yourself sane. I question my ability to be so sane in the same situation.
I am fairly certain I would not follow through with my face-shooting scheme. Let’s be real here. I might have to huddle alone in a dark corner for a while after coming in contact with such a monster and having to deal with it with civility, but that only means I’m human. I can’t imagine dealing with perp after perp and keeping yourself sane. That’s more what I was driving at.
And to give you an idea of how much self reserve the cops have, think of it like this…
You see how mad it made us about Shaniya, and we are only in the “third person” variety….but these cops saw firsthand the tragedy, right there before them (the search, her battered body, etc). So if you think you’re mad and hurt now, imagine how you would feel if you had seen it for yourself, and had the perps at your mercy….

I live in the town this happened in. I remember when the Amber Alert went off…… I prayed for the lil girl to be found alive and safe…… a lot of people did. As the story unfolded…. many people were stunned and outraged. This is a military town…… this made a lot of people around here want to get him and kill him along with that skank bitch. She sold her for drugs…….. this piece of shit had his way with her…. and dumped her off like she was trash. How the hell can he have a smile on his face?! I wish the guys around here would do something…. he deserves back what he did to that lil girl!!!! The “mother” as well!!
This story makes me angry and knowing there are others out there like this trash makes me angrier. I don’t want to think about what happened to this child. What kind of freak finds a child sexually arousing-one that can’t be fixed, rehabilitated, changed or stopped from doing it again. I truly believe that a sex offender should NEVER be allowed out of prison or given the death penalty upon first offense. They are wired wrong, they can’t have sex with adults, they don’t want to have sex with adults and they continue to prey on children. I don’t really care to study them, I don’t care about their childhood, their excuses, one strike and they should be out. I argued with a professor a long time ago who seemed to think that the percentage of those that re-offended (nice word -we don’t want to call it abducting, raping, killing, torturing children after all) after treatment was worth the risk of letting them out of prison-civil rights you know-and that is the problem with our laws-willing to risk the percentage of kids that will be raped or murdered against the rights of sex offenders.

I’m having a lingering feeling about something that I had been trying to fight….
I sympathize GREATLY with the pain of the father; everytime he cried, I would too. And I really do think he loved Shaniya. Its so obvious from the pictures and her upkeep when she was with him. The aunt, in my mind is NO QUESTION as to how much she loved Shaniya, I mean that is so obvious, and in fact, I consider her to be Shaniya’s mother.
But anyway, how could Mr. Lockhart just send her away to those conditions? She went from living in a $250K home, to living in a trailer that I liken to a sardine can.
Why didnt he do just a little more investigating? This home was infested and felon-filled. He had no idea who Antoinette’s associates were, and you see the direct result of the ignorance of that. I’m sorry, but if I had a child and I was providing as well for them as Mr. Lockhart was for Shaniya, there is no way I’d reduce her to poverty conditions. And I’m saying, even if Antoinette had really been a good mother, I STILL would not have put my child into those sub-par living conditions, just on the fact of the demotion of her quality of life she would experience. If you think I’m exaggerating, take a look at Mr. Lockhart’s home, and the home of Antoinette, and compare. Shaniya was even pulled out of school, and no one questioned!!!
I so want to continue to sympathize with Mr. Lockhart on this, but everyday my mind goes a little bit closer to being mad with him as well. Dont get me wrong, the real and true perpetrators were McNeill and Antoinette, and I am quite sure Lockhart would not have let her go if he had known what would take place. But still…and the thing with him having a new girlfriend and all. Dare I say it, but a lot of people have lately begun to feel it was a matter of convenience for him in a way. Now that some of the smoke has cleared and Shaniya is resting peacefully, a lot of eyes have turned towards Mr lockhart.
Like I said, I am not blaming him; I’m just saying that his decision played a major role in what happened. I know people who wont even let you babysit their children for a couple of hours, unless they have a very good idea as to what you are about, and what conditions you are in. So how do you just turn a child over to live in an unknown condition AND you not follow up? Even if he wanted to work out new custody arrangements, why couldnt they start off on a weekend/visit type arrangement first, just to ease Shaniya into the transition, and see what the Davis household was really about?
I think that Mr. Lockhart is grieving heavily as any parent would, because of what happened, but I think a large part of that grief is the knowledge that he inadvertently played a part in Shaniya’s demise.
I can answer this question pretty easily.
Had he attempted to fight this, with his attorneys, this would have been decided in North Carolina.
You may look through the many, many cases in family law in North Carolina and you will find a rather important fact.
A woman is going to win against a man unless she can be shown to actually smoking Crack cocaine at the time of the hearing, she fails to show at the hearing or is currently incarcerated(or will be incarcerated).
30 minutes of legal advice from an attorney would have convinced him that the better route was to work out a joint custody agreement outside of court and avoid causing Shaniya any grief.
I don’t blame him, but I’m certain that right now, he blames himself.
He blames himself for the one night stand, he blames himself for not being in Shaniya’s life, and he blames himself for not making a visit.
I don’t blame him because how could anyone in the world expect something like this? Ever?

While ordinarily my heart would break for Shaniya’s dad or any parent who loses a child; there are so many things here that don’t add up. The following come from interviews local news did with the people in Shaniya’s life.
Shaniya’s half brother commented on the conditions in that feces covered tin box and the criminals he saw, both there and at the last house Antoinette Davis was evicted from.
Why would Brad’s teen age son be familiar with Davis and those she was known to associate with and but he wasn’t?
“She had a cigarette burn on the corner of her eye, which she claimed her grandma did when she went over there,” added Shaniya’s half sister Cheyenne Lockhart. And Cheyenne says Brad did not provide for Shaniya. “He didn’t take care of her, his girlfriends took care of her,” she said. “He loved her, but she was raised by other people. He hasn’t been in her life.”
The friend of Brad’s who Cheyenne is living with is another who claims he saw burn marks on Shaniya and he offered to care for Shaniya rather than sending her to Davis. Allen had already taken in Shaniya’s half sister Cheyenne, because she said her dad wouldn’t take care of her.
Byron Coleman is the ex-father-in-law who has custody of the 3 children Brad fathered with Mr Coleman’s daughter. He has taken Brad to court several times over the years for custody and support issues. He said Brad was paying child support for Shaniya and his grandchildren.
“When you wanted sex that’s where you went,” Coleman said. “You knew what the girl was doing. You knew what she associated with, so why place your daughter in that situation?
Mr Coleman is one of the people who offered to keep Shaniya rather than letting her go to the egg donor. Coleman, said Shaniya “had burns on her legs, arms and things” after visits with her mother. When the child was in the custody of her mother, bad things happened. “Because of that, Coleman blames Lockhart for Shaniya’s death.
If Brad wasn’t raising Shaniya (possibly due to his frequent trips out of state for extended periods of time while working.) And it very much appears his sister Carie was raising her and had no trouble with continuing with the arrangement, why all of a sudden was it so important for Shaniya to go to Davis?
Shaniya’s Aunt Carie said she packed her bag for a 2 day visit with Davis; when she spoke to her on the phone later in the week, Davis told her she would never see Shaniya again. She claimed to be angry with Carie for disciplining Shaniya. Carie said she was going to speak to Brad about it as soon as he returned, to “nip it in the bud”.
Brad was on the phone with Carie when LE showed up at her door, regarding Shaniya’s alleged kidnapping. LE was there because they found Carie’s name and number as the contact person at Shaniya’s school. Davis evidently didn’t bother calling her or giving her information to LE.? Isn’t it standard procedure to give information on care takers and relatives when a child disappears?
Why did Brad call Carie after being contacted by LE, doesn’t it make much more sense to call the person the child was left with? Brad told a reporter he had no contact information on Davis and said he had not spoken to her, nor did he plan on it in the foreseeable future. Had he spoken to her or to Shaniya since he had Shaniya packed up and shipped out of her home?
Brad said Davis had gotten herself together, (by who’s standards?) she was working (Not! in a real job…) and she had gotten a place to live. (barnyard animals wouldn’t live in that feces covered box and on top of that Davis was using it as a crash pad, It was her sister’s rental.) He said he wanted to give Davis a chance to be Shaniya’s mother. (A CHANCE ?) Do we give our children a chance to play with guns or a chance to try cocaine?
But why? No where have we heard she asked for this chance!
Shaniya was handed over to these drug users and perverts on a silver platter. To be used and abused in ways that make me cry just to think about. After listening to an expert (who had not examined Davis) say it is likely Davis never bonded with Shaniya and she lacked maternal instincts for her daughter. I wanted to throw up my hands in despair.(or just throw up) Why does her maternal instincts or lack of them matter when speaking of a 5 year old baby being handed over to a man for sexual acts? Any human old enough to understand a physical relationship should know a 5 year old is not built to accommodate a grown man. The damage done would be severe and very likely permanent. I could care less about her lack of maternal instincts. She handed her baby over to be tortured and she disgusts me.
I’m going to check the veracity of what you’ve said. Almost none of it matches with what I have, but I’m not ready to say which side of the information I have is wrong, your story which at first glance is compelling, or my own notes, which suggest someone is attempting to cast the father in a less than stellar light. I am an outsider in this case who lives in Raleigh, please explain(you don’t have to use a name, but if you’re related or a neighbor, it will help) who you are and what your motivations are.
Jason every word that I wrote came from listening to the interviews or reading the news papers interviews with the people I mentioned. I had started to write an article for a news site and never got around to finishing it. (as you see I repeatedly slaughtered Aunt Carey’s name, from not rechecking and I apologize)
I don’t want to paint Brad in a bad light my heart broke over this baby girl I just could not and can not understand why he gave her to her mother. I don’t believe he wished any harm to his daughter and I am so deeply he has to live with this. But I would have jumped in front of a train if needed, to save my child’s life and I can’t wrap my head around his lack of diligence.
I too am an outsider, I have nothing to gain by hurting any of these people, and that is not my intent. We have seen so many babies killed this year by single mothers or their boyfriends, most of the moms did this out of the blue leaving families devastated. This death just seemed more senseless than the rest being that Shaniya was in a good stable home, regardless if it was her father or her aunt who was her full time parent.

I’m just having trouble finding articles or even court documents that support your comments. Without some sort of verifiable source, I don’t feel like I can update this article or provide an update to Max that I can feel comfortable with. I too had my heart broken by this case and am following it so closely that my heart hurts a little with each detail. I am quick to assign blame when I feel I have an overwhelming set of evidence, and I will admit when I’m wrong, but at this time, I can’t verify what you’ve said. If Max links us up on emails, I’ll gladly look over any links (or you can post them) and we can work through the details on the comment section here.
If the father is complicit, I will urge the attorney general’s office of North Carolina to investigate and indict him for engaging in interstate prostitution. I don’t think that’s the case, but to print an article that suggests he knew or suspected Antoinette would sell his daughter for sex is exactly that. I don’t believe he or any real human being is capable of that.
If the father was negligent, I think still here there’s an accusation that deserves careful consideration and support.
But if I can find that this is all heresay and commentary placed in the public eye by those who’d defend the criminals mentioned above, then I think it would only be fair to exonerate the father in this matter. Can we agree to that as a set of ground rules?

Thanks so much for this post. I live about 45 minutes away from this place and I have been following this case closely. I really have tried to feel sorry for the father but there are too many things standing in the way. (Please don’t drag out the clubs…)
Yes, he let her go live in sub-standard conditions. Sewage leakage was so bad they were about to condemn the trailer. She was not attending school. Big red flag. But here is what really gets to me.
Mr. Lockhart has 5 children. Three of which are from his wife that was murdered eleven years ago. (Haven’t researched that yet.) Shaniya’s half sister who I believe is around 16 is living with a friend of Mr. Lockhart’s… after he kicked her out of his home previously. This same friend, that is raising the half sister, and also ANOTHER friend had begged Mr. Lockhart to let Shaniya come and live with them. Now, this is just not a question that you would come out in a regular conversation with a friend and ask. My question is, what had both of these friends of Mr. Lockharts been privy to that would make them offer to take that baby and raise her???
When Shaniya came home with cigarette burns why weren’t they documented and an emergency temporary custody arrangement seeked? Why was the previous DSS visits concerning Shaniya’s seven year old brother also considered? The walking UTERUS also had been in trouble with drugs.
Sorry, I don’t believe that I could be on Oprah speaking about the murder of my child and about understanding and forgiveness before she was laid to rest.
I think a lot of responsibility rest at the feet of Mr. Lockhart.
I have to let me son go to his Dad’s for visitation and if I ever suspected anything like this, I’d run with him before he got him.
I do feel sorry for the aunt who was truly raising Shaniya. I don’t believe that she will ever recover from this but I believe that she will go on to do great things for the protection of children from predators.

Living in a mobile home or not being rich doesn’t mean you are a bad parent or should not get to parent your kid over your richer ex.
I grew up poor and was taken care of and was very happy. This woman would have done the exact same thing to this little girl wether she lived in a mansion or a trailer.
True, and I understand what you mean. I wasnt knocking lower income parents, because I didnt exactly grow up rich either. I meant to show the living conditions IN CONJUNCTION with the fact that Antoinettes lifestyle was still very unknown to him. Its not meant to be taken personally by anyone who wasnt raised in the best situations; if you look at it that way then the point is kinda taken out of context. I think if Antoinette hadnt done this, then her living conditions in itself would not be enough to make people talk. And, honestly, actually had Antoinette had been living better, this may not have happened to Shaniya, because she would have had better self esteem and means to take care of her, and not to prostitute herself and her child.
Also, I dont live in this neighborhood, but it is about 5 mins away from me, and the area is kinda rough. And also, not all impoverished people are nasty, but she was. Lets not forget, the porch was littered with human feces…so much more to this picture…
I grew up rich. My best friend lived in a trailer park. I was raised by a series of housekeepers and caregivers. She was raised by her parents. Guess who had the more nurturing, ‘normal’ childhood?
For people who aren’t born into wealth, keeping it once you have it is more than a full-time job. Most self-made wealthy parents that I have experience with don’t have time for their children. It’s the people with modest incomes who work 9-5 shifts that provide the normal home life.
So very sad. I hate stories like this! I hope they both get what they deserve in prison!
You should do a write up on the gang-rape at Richmond high school. It’s been all over the news and there are tons of articles about it online. A 15 year old was raped at a high school dance by 6-7 boys/men while 20 or more people stood around and watched. They took pictures with their phones and laughed about it. It’s pretty fucking disgusting what humans do to each other. I am still bothered by the story.

I’ve read the newspaper reports and have watched the television reports, until the day it was announced that Shaniya’s body was found I prayed and prayed that she would be found okay – it was almost like one of my own was missing. All I could think about was this little girl. When she was found, I prayed that she didn’t suffer. All along, I was in disbelief that a mother would willingly sell/give her child to a pedophile….

Shaniya’s story has brought back painful memories of my stepfather’s molestation when I was five. His fingers hurting me cannot even compare to what I have imagined Shaniya feeling – her terror, suffering, confusion, trying to breathe… her sweet face & her shy smile, she haunts me. No new updates yet, as far as I know. I know McNeill and Antoinette had/have some court dates, but I dont think anything major has happened yet. I did run into an old friend of mine, who’s aunt works for the medical examiner’s office. She stated that apparently McNeill made her perform oral sex as well as raped her, and then her skull was cracked. On top of that asphyxiated. If that aint enough to fuel the fires of hatred and where justice needs to be served, I dont know what is. I am so glad the sheriff’s dept is keeping all details inside, so as not to jeopardize the case in any way, so that it will be airtight enough to roast their asses in court!!

Lockhart’s friend expressed concerns (Family friend Cheyenne lives with)
He said Tuesday evening that he told Lockhart not to send Shaniya to live with her mother. Allen said after Shaniya went to her mother’s house, he noticed marks on her arms.
“I feel he is 99 percent the reason why this happened in the first place,” Allen said of Shaniya’s death.
Allen said Lockhart agreed Oct. 1 to let Shaniya stay with his family at night while Lockhart was gone and for her to spend the days at a day care run by Allen’s mother. A day later, Allen said, Lockhart told him he had changed his mind. “He said he knew she wasn’t supposed to be over there, but he wanted to give her biological mother a chance,” Allen said.
Cheyenne said she didn’t have much contact with Shaniya’s mother, but she said her father knew of problems in the Davis home. “He knew Antoinette wasn’t capable of taking care of Shaniya,” Cheyenne said.
The Colemans and Brad Lockhart have been on opposing sides in several lawsuits in recent years, most of which were dismissed. A case filed in 1998 resulted in the Colemans being granted custody of their grandchildren and child support in 2007, according to court files.
Before Shaniya’s death, Lockhart was paying child support on three
children, including Shaniya and two of the children from his marriage.
Byron Coleman, Brad’s ex-father-in-law, said Shaniya “had burns on her legs, arms and things” after visits with her mother.
“I would have kept Shaniya, but he never asked me,” Phyllis Coleman said. “After all, I kept his (other) three children.”
Because of that, Coleman blames Lockhart for Shaniya’s death.
“To me Shaniya would be alive today if she wasn’t placed in that situation,” Coleman claims.
Coleman said he was angry about Shaniya’s death.
“He knew the situation with this girl,” Coleman said. “He knew the kind of environment.
“Why take Shaniya back to a woman like that? That’s the stupidest thing I ever heard.”

After going through all of the articles and information again, I still can’t understand why Brad Lockhart would put his baby daughter into the situation AD was living in. As a parent I can’t accept him saying he didn’t know; because it was his responsibility to know what was happening before he allowed her out of his sight.
He has a beautiful home and appears to live a lifestyle many people would envy, so how could he in all good conscious allow Shaniya to live in the hell hole AD was crashing in?
I’m not speaking of poverty, I am only concerned with the trash that filled that house – it’s not a crime to be poor, or to collect welfare. It should be a crime to allow babies to live in a box so filthy LE couldn’t go in to process the possible scene of a crime. I’d like to see him spend a few days in the trailer, spend a few nights there too.
Unlike his friend and ex father in law, I do have pity for the man, I don’t think he wanted Shaniya harmed, but he failed his child – so I do want to see him make changes in his life, maybe he could become an advocate for children in this country who are hungry, cold and abused by their drug addict parents.

As best I can tell, Brad Lockhart appears to have been deeply in debt, going through a messy divorce(I can’t find the final papers on this, is this ongoing?), working in excess of 60 hours per week and very much uninvolved in Shaniya’s life for the last 11 months, mainly due to extended trips for work. There’s no public records from DSS regarding Shaniya, except that child support may have been collected on her behalf, suggesting that either the Coleman’s had Shaniya’s checks collected by NC DSS or more likely that Antoinette Davis began receiving support or had filed for support before or after she had physical custody. While not an excuse, Brad paid child support on all 5 children including Shaniya at least suggesting monetary investment in child care. He was not and is not registered as a dead beat dad in any state that maintains a registry.
His conscience in this matter may have been focused on the line he was being given. I don’t understand why he’d “choose” Antoinette over his own sister, unless there was either a request from the mother, friction with the Colemans and/or at least contact with Antoinette Davis. I think we can both agree that Antoinette has no trouble lying to get what she wants, to preemptively avoid confrontation with the police and to cover her tracks. She seems to have hustled people before, managing to avoid the consequences of several charges and to maintain residences and defeat a DSS investigation into the child welfare of her own son. It’s entirely possible that the records pertaining to that investigation, that may have concluded with a letter stating that Antoinette was maintaining a stable home for her child were used to persuade Brad that Shaniya could be well cared for.
While not a rejection of the direct accusations made, I cannot find specific malfeasance in his actions at this point. I can believe less of the man because he has an illegitimate child born while he was married to another woman, but I can’t directly point to any intentional threat against Shaniya, especially given that Shaniya was dropped off with only 2 days change of clothes, more than suggesting that custody was going to be shared.

We know BL was paying child-support, there is no reason to think it was going to anyone but AD. I have heard he had his house on the market for sometime before any of this happen, you have added the debt factor. I didn’t know he was going thru a divorce, never heard he had married again after Vickie died.
Having been through child support wars of my own at one time, I know this can cause a lot of animosity. Is it possible he told AD the free ride was up and she resisted? That he told her, if I’m going to pay you then here you go? Possibly even thinking Shaniya would be very unhappy there and AD would send her home? Only it backfired…
This is only a question, based on my own inability to come to terms with anything I have read about Shaniya going to that hell hole. This is not a rumor I am trying to start. Just a big unanswered, WHY?

In this one regard, I may be overreaching. Brad Lockhart may be a common enough name, that more than one person in the same state with different circumstances is involved. I’m using a variety of public databases that unfortunately are not much more specific.
I am considering what it would be like if Brad came to the decision, “either I pay Antoinette Child support and deny her custody, only to lose Shaniya because I am not the principle in her life, or I share physical custody, pay child support and retain a working relationship with her mother and provide Shaniya a connection to who and where she comes from.”
I think in the above phrasing that’s at least admirable. As far as the home, I think but don’t know, that Brad Lockhart is currently struggling with what many people in this recession are facing. Too much house, with too little income, and too few solutions to the problems of childcare, bill pay and mortgage.

Just released; the autopsy report on little 5 year old Shaniya Davis, who was found deceased a week after her Incubator reported her missing on Nov 10 – Shaniya died from asphyxiation and suffered injuries that confirm the little girl was sexually assaulted.
Her body was found by searchers who had been told the baby had been stashed near a deer carcass dumping ground~ an area they had been combing for two days hoping to bring some sort of closure to the horrific story that her egg donor had sold her baby girl into sexual servitude to settle a drug debt (allegedly).
Shaniya was found under a thick patch of kudzu, and was wearing only panties and an adult-sized black sweat shirt.
I’m sure it was a coincidence that family friend, convicted felon and fellow druggie – Mario McNeill was wearing a black sweatshirt when the surveillance tape captured him carrying the angel in his arms into a hotel room some 40 miles from the clap trap she called home for the last 5 weeks of her life.

I actually did read of a religious theory (which one escapes me right now) where the theory is that some people were born when no souls were ready to reincarnate, so they are born without souls, hence their willingness to do evil. Jason, kudos on the article. I remember when this first hit the media. I could not believe how this poor little girl’s life went down the shitter. Can you imagine how confused she was? She had NO relationship with the bio-mother, none. She must have wondered what she did wrong to be sent away from the people who regularly cared for her and loved her, from her nice home with her own room to be shipped off and dumped with this …. woman. And I don’t doubt that the bio-mother wanted her there; she found out that she could make $$ off her daughter’s body and she had no scruples about selling her. THAT was the job she spoke of to the father. And the father? I hope he never, ever has another decent night’s sleep. For the confusion and pain the girl felt at being sent to Antoinette, I hold him responsible. Like I said before, adults never consider children important enough to explain situations to. I doubt anyone told her why she was being shipped off and I know they certainly didn’t ask her if she agreed with the decision.
Nothing equates to slavery quite like being a child. No one asks about your feelings, your opinions, your wants or your needs. Things are just DONE to you. You are told what to wear, what to eat, where to sleep, when to clean up, who to be with, and so on.

There should be lots of news updates soon..I heard something on the local news (I live in NC) about the trial for at least one of these beasts starting this week. I was half asleep so I don’t remember details.

According to the local newspaper….July 6th 2011 The mother of 5-year-old Shaniya Davis was indicted today on charges that include first-degree murder, rape and human trafficking.
A Cumberland County grand jury also indicted Antoniette Davis, 27, on charges of taking indecent liberties with a child, committing a sexual offense, sexual servitude, human trafficking and making a false police report, authorities said.
There is no bail for the murder charge, Tanna said. Bail on the other offenses is set at $1.5 million.
