UPDATE 2: Joshua Komisarjevsky and Steven Hayes

CHESHIRE HOME INVASION SUSPECT OVERDOSES, DELAYS JURY SELECTION
excerpts from an article by Dave Altimari – The Hartford (CT) Courant

February 1, 2010–Steven Hayes, who apparently tried to kill himself Sunday with a drug overdose, was taken to the hospital after prison guards found him unconscious.

Jury selection in Hayes’ trial at Superior Court in New Haven on charges that he killed a mother and two daughters during a home invasion in Cheshire in 2007 will be suspended today, and the delay is likely to last far longer.

Hayes was taken to the UConn Health Center in Farmington from the MacDougall-Walker Correctional Institution in Suffield. Hospital officials declined to release any details of his condition.

Sources familiar with the case said that Hayes apparently overdosed on medication that he receives daily, but did not say what kind of pills he takes. Sources said that he had faked taking his medicine for at least a few days in an apparent suicide attempt, similar to one by former death row inmate Michael Ross several years ago.

Hayes and Joshua Komisarjevsky have been charged with triple murder for the slayings of Jennifer Hawke-Petit and her daughters Hayley, 17, and Michaela, 11. The three were killed, police say, when Hayes and Komisarjevsky broke into their Cheshire home in July 2007, tied them up and set the house on fire to obscure the evidence.

Jennifer’s husband and the girls’ father, William Petit Jr., was beaten with a baseball bat and left tied up in the basement. He escaped the fire.

Jury selection began Jan. 19, and four jurors have been chosen. Jurors are not expected to begin hearing evidence in the trial until September.

Hayes faces the death penalty if convicted.

Petit’s father, William Petit Sr., said it was frustrating not knowing more about the incident.

“We’ll just have to wait until [today] to find out more, just like everybody else,” Petit Sr. said.

State prisons are under state police jurisdiction, and state police detectives are investigating the incident.

Department of Correction sources said that Sunday was not the first time that Hayes had attempted to overdose on drugs. Sources said that he had made a similar attempt last year and was transferred to the Garner Correctional Institute in Newtown, which is Connecticut’s only prison with psychiatric facilities. Hayes was on a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week suicide watch after he was arrested, and Department of Correction officials drew criticism for having an officer sit outside his cell around the clock.

Both Hayes and Komisarjevsky have been kept isolated from other prisoners. Komisarjevsky has had several visitors, including a writer who published a book detailing Komisarjevsky’s version of what happened inside the Petit home. Hayes has been virtually alone, except for visits from his lawyers.

Komisarjevsky, in the book and in a detailed police statement, has blamed Hayes for the murders of the Petit women. Sources said that Komisarjevsky told police he was upstairs in Michaela’s room when he heard a struggle downstairs. Komisarjevsky said that when he looked downstairs, he saw Hayes raping and strangling Jennifer Hawke-Petit.

Komisarjevsky said that Hayes then turned to him and said there could be no witnesses and started spreading gasoline through the house. It is not clear who lit the blaze as the two men ran out of the house.

They were arrested trying to escape. The two girls died of smoke inhalation.

STEPHEN HAYES RELEASED FROM HOSPITAL, RETURNED TO PRISON
excerpts from an article by Alaine Griffin – The Hartford (CT) Courant

February 2, 2010–Steven Hayes, one of two men charged with killing a Cheshire mother and her two daughters in a July 2007 home invasion, was returned to prison Tuesday after being hospitalized as a result of what officials called a medical emergency.

A Superior Court judge is expected to decide Wednesday morning when jury selection in Hayes’ trial will resume.

Jury selection was halted Monday after Hayes’ lawyer, Thomas J. Ullmann, reported to the judge that his client was found “unconscious” in his prison cell at MacDougall-Walker Correctional Institution in Suffield on Sunday morning. Ullmann said he was told Hayes was in a “medically induced coma.”

Ullmann told Judge Jon C. Blue during a brief court hearing Monday that Hayes was in the intensive-care unit at the University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington.

Department of Correction spokesman Brian Garnett said Tuesday that Hayes returned to MacDougall in the morning. He would not comment on whether Hayes was being held under any special conditions or if he was under a suicide watch.

Neither correction nor hospital officials would comment on the reason for Hayes’ hospitalization, citing a court-imposed gag order in the case and patient-privacy laws for the secrecy.

Tough luck there Steve, looks like you’re going to have to face the judge after all. I know it must be hard living with yourself after what you’ve done. Plus, you got caught fleeing the scene, the prosecution has so much evidence it doesn’t know what to present first, and your chances of escaping the Death Penalty are equal to or less than the proverbial snowball in hell.

But buck up buddy, it could be worse. You could be a baby raper. Juries don’t like baby rapers at all.

    What? He is?

Well, you could have murdered an innocent young child. Juries hate that.

Mmmm, really, he did that too?

But still Steven, at least you didn’t kill the kid by setting the house on fire and leaving the poor child to burn to death. That’ll make your jurors want to drink your blood.

Oh shit! Well you know what, Steve, you’re fucked pal! See you in Hell!

Seriously though, this trial is about to begin in New Haven Superior Court, about 25 miles drive from where I live. If I was feeling better, I’d go down and check it out, because this promises to be a very emotional event. It’s also probably the biggest trial that Connecticut has seen since the Michael Ross trial in 1987, which means it’s going to be a circus. I’ll be keeping a close eye on the proceedings, and you guys will be the first to know when there’s verdict.

Don’t expect any kind of last minute plea deal – prosecutors are out for blood. Governor Jodi Rell vetoed a law this past legislative session that would have eliminated the Death Penalty in Connecticut in large part because the trials of Steven Hayes and Joshua Komisarjevsky were coming up. Dr. William Petit Jr. was vocal in his opposition to this law – He wants to see Hayes and Komisarjevsky die for their sins.

They should let the sicko kill himself, save tax payer’s money and allows him to burn twice as hot in Hell, considering that (suicide)would be yet another murder and sin, at his hands. (IMO)

      • E says:

All good points Steph Ann but I still think they should cook ‘em. Yes it would cost the taxpayers but I have a feeling theyd gladly pony up the extra dimes. I would. Wait what am I sayin? How much could it cost? tie e’m up with nylon rope, add gasoline and a match. You might have to pay to rent a meeting hall or vacant lot or someplace that wouldn’t catch fire. Oh, and maybe barriers to keep back the spectators who want to piss on these fuckrs as they burn. But I can’t think of any other expense? Anyone? Anyone?

        • Steph-Ann says:

Lmao! True…and worth every dime. But JUSTICE would be handing the fucknuts over to the father/husband. That poor man, he is in my prayers. :(

          • Jeff says:

All Good Points Steph, but Trust me.. the people of Cheshire and CT are more than willing to pony up the money to see these two fry. I grew up in Cheshire, and Believe it or not, was a Childhood friend of Komisarjevsky. I haven’t had any contact with him for many many years before this happened, but I remember him being different and odd even as a child in elementary school (He was pulled after first grade from Home schooling). He caused all kinds of Havoc around town for years leading to this horrific crime, and I wouldn’t be surprised at all if the police has a good idea it was him while on the way to the scene.

Somehow I doubt he was having trouble living with himself. I think it’s more living with the fact that he is completely, utterly FUCKED.

    5. Fred says:

I think the state needs to handle these two POS suicide watches in a different manner, esp. with the current deficit.
      1. Replace all staff members with cameras
      2. Sell the broadcasting rights of the suicide watch to cable and satellite providers
      3. Develop a lottery – much like the “Cow Crap” pools where people can bet on what and when these two POS will do

Or we could have these two star in the next Saw movie – except for their scenes would NOT have any special effects (it would be real)

      • The Bosses Secretary says:

I like how you think, Fred. I vote Saw movie.

        • Fred says:

          Thank you.
My daughter and her boyfriend wanted to see Saw VI (I think that was the number)
I still cannot imagine the pain those girls went thru. To me, Joshua is a liar – I believe all the women were raped, Joshua doing the 11 year old……. The stories said that the girls died of smoke inhalation so I conclude they saw the fires that were going to consume them. I know that Micheala was still tied to the bed, but I don’t know if Haylee was still tied to her bed or if she got free before she died.

While smoke inhalation does not sound as bad as burned to death, it’s very close – the heat is brought into the body wiTh each breath and the general sting with each smoke filled breath, and as much as one does not want to bring in the next hot toxic breath the body instinctively demands another breath while the mind sensibly trys to hang on to what little is available until a better breath can be drawn.

These two destroyed enough evidence as to turn the crime scene and reconstruction into a he said that he did – there is, to my knowledge, not enogh evidence to tell which one did exacty what, but it is know what they did together. Thus by having seperate trials, both of them killed the women, BUT the major 3 witnesses are dead, Satan won’t tell us and God is waiting for us to send us this scum.

ehhhh I don’t know about that, Max. I think he just knows he’ll be in prision forever, or get the DP, and the sumbitch just wants to put *himself* outta his misery.
I love Fred’s ideas!! Any of those would work for me!!

Damnit, Hayes… HOW could you mess it up?!?!

Here… we’ll give your sorry ass ONE more chance to get it right. After that, we’re calling in a professional…

    9. LilMissSunshine says:

All right, now I know people want to see these POS put to justice, but why oh why do we always save these assholes when the attempt suicide? LET HIM DIE! It saves tons of money for tax payers and saves the family some grief. I understand for some its the easy way out, and I agree. At the same time, why should he be allowed to breathe? Esp. if hes facing the DP anyway… I dunno.

Anyway, these two are def going to prison for a long, lonngggg time. Hopefully once they are convicted they will be put in GP where the real fun can commence…

In fact she told me that back in the 60s, they had a neighbor (5 miles up the road…LOL) whose son was a big thief. My grandfather called over there and told the thief’s father, “If I catch him in my yard again, I’m going to LEAVE him there.” (And you KNOW what that meant. Problem solved.) That’s when the word “COMMUNITY” meant something, though… LOL.

We can all wear t shirts with the victims faces on them, that way he sees nothing but angry mob and the faces of his victims! Mr. Petit can throw the first stone! Takes a long time to die that way………

    14. Fast Eddy says:

I remember this story. You fucking bastards. Truly despicable. Fuck You. Go to hell.

    15. Dark Marcsun says:

Next time the guards should just leave him a pack of matches and a 1/4 can of charcoal starter. Just enough to get him burning but not enough to make it quick.

    16. Neil Down and Ben Dover says:

Aww, poor baby Hayes. Watch what happens after the trial. If they’re not lucky to get to death row, they’ll probably be in isolation away from the other scum, 3 meals a day, better medical and dental care than you or I can afford, cable TV, law library, fitness center, etc. If they do get death row, they’ll have all of the above perks, plus a gazillion appeals, the ACLU, pen pals, etc. And if all else fails, they’ll “find” God!

I say, wrap ‘em in bacon before they pull the switch! Not only 2 less vermin, but everyone gets a hearty breakfast! And give Dr. Petit Hayes nads to him, so he can always have him by the balls! My condolences to Dr. Petit and his family, and fuck Hayes and Joshua Komisarjevsky, burn you two fuckheads!!!

    17. ferrets says:

I want these two to die. I think it is ridiculous that if either one offs themselves their long lost relatives will screw over the victims, the taxpayer and justice by filing lawsuits against the State, prison, guards for negligence in allowing them to die…what a system. That said, I would throw a few $into the defense fund of any inmate that took either one of them off the planet!

    18. CP says:

Let the bastard kill himself. Save taxpayers the time and effort of bothering with a trial. Better yet, let him attempt to, fail and then tie him up and leave him in a burning house somewhere. My deepest sympathies to the surviving husband and family who are going to have to live through the horror of not having their beautiful girls in their life any longer.

    21. MrEthiopian says:

I think if scumbag 1 & 2 want to kill them self’s, that’s ok, give them a gallon of gas and a pack of matches.

    22. Dan says:

Wow, wanna know what REALLY is sick? The bloodlust every1 of you have against these 2 guys. Ok, well, Hayes can be sacrificed. But, none of you know the EXACT evidence that will be put up, in the trial, which by the way, isn’t even expected to commence until Sept. of 2010. So just chill out, and let’s see what the trial brings. I just read the book, and I still have questions why he took on a partner like that imbecile Hayes anyway. Most likely, would NEVER have happened if he had continued doing things by himself.

      • vcbecky says:

Wow, wanna know what REALLY REALLY is sick? When chodas like you use numbers instead of words when they type. Really makes all of us want to take your personal assessments to heart.

      • ApriL says:

i’d like the ability to say I told you so :) so please stick around :D

      • Jason says:

Wow, wanna know what REALLY is sick?

Rape, murder, and murder by arson, those are REALLY sick.

Incidentally, no one here needs the EXACT evidence, given that the majority of the evidence is DAMNING, despite the attempt to sugar coat and spin it with a paid off dramatization.

I just read the book, and I still have questions why he took on a partner like that imbecile Hayes anyway.

Attempting to sell the book, and raise awareness, so that when some juror breaks orders and reads this site because of its high Google relevance, you somehow get a chance to spin the story in his favor, is so fundamentally futile. My urge would actually be that Admin or Max add some sort of snipe comment in an update about the relevancy of the author’s version of the story, but that would feel to me like the sort of jury tampering you’re attempting to engage in. Instead, I simply counter your response with one of my own. If they read your response, my response will follow.

Do you think what you’re trying to do is clever? Novel? Impressive?
You are not the first, aren’t even the most subtle, and certainly won’t be the last.

      • Max The Cat says:

Oh wow guys, Dan here read the book. You know, THE BOOK. In the Middle of the Night: The Shocking Story of a Family Killed in Cold Blood by a “journalist” named Brian McDonald was written from material the author snuck out of prison while he was supposed to be interviewing Joshua Komisarjevsky, along with letters that Komisarjevsky was sending him.

To call it true true story of what happened in the Petite home is a fantasy at best. It should really be called a work of fiction by Joshua Komisarjevsky, with Brian McDonald as ghost writer. If you believe this journalistic piece of shit, Stephen Hayes did everything, while Komisarjevsky was in fear of his life. It’s also a sob story about what a tough life out hero had while he was growing up. In other words, the book is a major attempt by Komisarjevsky, and possibly his defense team, to influence the jury pool. It obviously fooled our friend Dan here, who seems to be about as naive as a girl scout and not nearly as intelligent.

Danny Boy, maybe you should research the subject you’re commenting. This way you won’t end up pulling your pants down in public like you did in your above comment. No we don’t know the EXACT evidence that will be presented at trial, but we do know that these two morons were caught in the act, and left a trail of evidence for the whole world to see. And they left a living witness, you jackass.

So don’t be stupid and take on subjects that you’re not qualified to discuss. You should be ashamed that you even made this post. Any attempt to defend either one of these two fucking animals is just proof that you either didn’t think about what you were doing or your have a serious lack of morals. To make it simple, in deference to you Dan, it means you’re either a dumb fuck or an evil fuck. Or a dumb evil fuck – that’s my pick, since you referenced that work of fiction Brian McDonald called a true crime book.

I officially request that you shut the fuck up.

By the way – Dr William Petite has requested that people NOT BUY Brian McDonald’s book about the Cheshire Home invasion, the title of which I mentioned above. So please, if you find yourself tempted to purchase a copy of what was an obvious attempt by McDonald to cash in on people’s sick curiosity surrounding this case, try and remember Dr. Petite’s request.

Our bloodlust is so ravenous that we LOVE to flame all of these innocent people over the internet as sport! Now, since you have found us out, you should be our next victim. We could put you in a cell with Hayes or Komisarjevsky, because we all can imagine how lonely they are. You could be their little bum buddy. It would be LOTS ‘o fun! You know you’d love it since your such a bleeding heart for them ;)

Sometimes I’ll get all mouthy on them, but people like this aren’t worth my more creative verbs.

Not that you are even worth replying to. I’m just trying to understand your absolute stupidity and logic. So if Komisarjevsky would have continued his criminal life on his own and had never met up with Hayes this would have never happened. I’m a little slow sometimes so I’m really having a hard time trying to digest that statement.

I know the electric chair is no longer in use, but if we could bring it back just for old times sake. For shits and giggles if Hayes and Komisarjevsky could be put in it, would you sit on their lap and hold their hand.

MR Petit I am so very sorry for your loss and sorrow I hope that you can continue on pushing for punsihment for such crimes in the name and love of your loved ones ..

I totlally agree Denise.Torture is the only way that these two can be punished enough.

    27. S says:

I have heared about this case yesterday for the first time (no idea how that could happen), I guess I was going through hard times myself in 2007. But here is what I think: how shocking, how horifing, what a nightmare! What a sensless crime! We cannot even imagine what these souls suffered. I can’t get that little girl out of my mind. I can’t get any of this out of my mind! And I don’t want to. I was always a security freak, but now I will really make sure all doors are closed and that nobody follows me when I drive home. Most such crimes happen because people don’t close their doors at night… (remember Anne Pressly?) what happened to that idiot, who killed her? I guess he’s just fine?? Anyways, talk to your kids, have a plan, be safe, close your doors, have an alarm system, or at least a dog.

Back to this case: I know it’s not the christian thing to say, but YES I want them to suffer. I don’t want them to die fast, I want them to feel fear, terror, pain, excruciating pain, (pull their fingernails and toenails out), cut their you know what and feed them to the dogs. fry their bodies in hot oil, I don’t know, let them smell delicious food and DON’T FEED THEM, what ever bad things anyone can make up, THEY DESERVE IT! But not fast!

To Dr. Petit: God bless you! May God hold your hand through all this! You should know, those beautiful girls are right there next to Him, watching over you. We all will keep you in our prayers! We all are on your side, you are not alone. It feels very much like you are, but you are not alone…

To Police: are you kidding me???? What losers! How can you look in the mirror daily, knowing that YOU COULD HAVE HELPED, YOU COULD HAVE SAVED 3 LIVES, but you didn’t………

      What’s next:
NOTHING. What ever comes, nothing will change anything. Can we learn? I hope so. Learn to be more vigilant, more protective, more aware of things going on around us.

To the crooks: MAY YOU BURN IN HELL!!!

    28. william says:

Anyone that rapes should be castrated and its just like law abidimg citizen I only wish it would be that awesome they both should get the chair or worse

    29. fuzzywuzzy says:

I can’t even look directly at this story, it is too horrific.

Death penalty is way too good for this scum. They give the human race a bad name; no person with these kinds of tendencies or inclinations should ever have existed in the Universe, period. They should be made to suffer worse pain than anyone who ever existed for the rest of eternity. Forget the death penalty, they should be sentenced to imortality so they can wish they were dead for all eternity. There is no punishment mortals can come up with that would do these two justice. I believe the concept of Hell was invented expressly for Joshua Komisarjevsky and Steven Hayes.

    30. Glazed Donut says:

not sure if any of the other threads have been updating but Hayes was found guilty of capital murder today after the jury deliberated 5 hours. The sentencing trial begins October 18.

Yes, I’m waiting for the sentence before I put anything on the front page about Hayes. I think a guilty verdict was a forgone conclusion.

One thing I didn’t understand is that they didn’t convict him of arson. Now right before the jury came back with the verdicts, they asked the judge if just pouring gasoline was considered arson. His answer was no.

So he discussed burning the house down, participated in the decision making process, poured out gas all over the house, but because he didn’t light it Hayes isn’t guilty of arson? That just doesn’t make any fucking sense to me.

I did a small happy dance earlier today and made a small modification to my google alerts. There must have been 15 good hits on it in seconds.

And according to the German Herald….the “puppy throwing girl” will NOT face charges.

Sorry about not providing a link…I’m out the door as I type this.

The defence lawyer played a card that I hope more people will see through. He tried to blame the police for not protecting that family from his client. That in fact will open a hole for an appeal or I doubt it but maybe a new trial. The reason being is that the defence attorney did not represent his client correctly. When in fact he did. His attorney just gave him more years to live and appeal. Everyone knows they are both guilty.
As far as I am concerned bring them to my home. Lock just the three of us in. All the tax payers will have to pay is for a new paint job and carpet inside. I will arrange for them to meet God in a slow way. But it will save the tax payers millions.

After they off Hayes and Komisarjevsky, they should beat the crap out of the lawyers, too, just for being such pieces of shit that they would take such a case. And don’t give me that “obligation” crap, either — I’d quit before I would defend either of these two monsters. Actually, I would take the case, just so I could off them both myself when no one is looking.

    34. Sol says:

No – no death penalty for either of them. Even better: strap them to beds, tube ‘em up for liquids/food/wastes, wire ‘em up, and start sticking-in pins.
KEEP them awake and screaming for the rest of their lives – as long as it takes. And televise it 24/7. They shouldn’t be ALLOWED to die as easily as lethal injection.
