    Rodney Alcala

Rodney AlcalaHey, did you guys know that one of the former hosts of Family Feud offed himself in the early 90’s? Yeah, it’s true. Ray Combs, Google him.

Game shows are a dangerous venue. But sometimes, to find the sickest minds, you look to the contestant, not the host. Case in point: Rodney Alcala.

Alcala was a contestant on the Dating Game (Bachelor number one, to be exact) back in 1978. Alcala actually won, but sadly the bachelorette refused the date. Smartest move in game show history.

“My name is Rodney. I like kids, sharp objects, and hurting people mercilessly. I also enjoy long walks on the beach and my pet cat. Oh, and I’m a photographer.”

Back in the 70’s, there must not have been background checks for game show applications. Ten years prior to the show, in 1968, Alcala had raped and almost killed an 8-year old girl.

Rodney had pulled his car up to the sidewalk when the little girl was walking to school and asked if she wanted a ride. She refused: “I’m not supposed to ride with strangers”. Alcala persisted: “It’s okay, I know your family”. Naïve child takes the bait.

Rodney Alcala took the 8-year-old back to his house, raped her, and almost beat her to death with a lead pipe. Luckily, a police officer noticed the scene and followed Alcala to his house. The officer  broke the door down and found them both naked, Alcala standing on the opposite side of the room and the girl surrounded by blood with a pipe next to her limp form.

She survived, but barely. Like the victim in the Campbell case, every time she looks in the mirror, she surely shows physical memories of the events that took place on that day.

Alcala spent some time in jail, but eventually got out. They almost always do. Between the release and several years after showing, Rodney Alcala was responsible for the death of at least five others.

Jed Mills, Bachelor number two, was stated as saying that Alcala appeared “extremely creepy”, and Alcala himself was quoted as whispering to the bachelorette “We’re going to have a great time together, Cheryl”.

She rightfully refused, as everyone partaking in the show that day sensed something wrong with this man. Odds are, that rejection experience threw the unstable Alcala over the edge, and he snapped. More people died.

Two of the victim’s bodies were posed nude after their deaths and photographed (Alcala was a professional photographer). Several victims were strangled and resuscitated to prolong their pain. One victim was even hacked with a claw hammer.

Eventually, Alcala was found and apprehended. In February of this year. Yes, thirty years later. He’s awaiting sentencing for several counts of first degree murder, as well as a nice collection of several other charges stemming from the 1968 rape and several other incidents. Alcala is facing the possibility of the death penalty for his crimes.

This is Alcala’s third time facing the court for the death of one of his victims, a 12-year old girl. The other two times, the case was overturned on the appeal. And what about the 8-year old Alcala raped and almost murdered?

Rodney formally apologized during the court proceedings, over 40 years after the crime took place. “I sincerely regret the harm I caused you and I apologize for my despicable behavior,” Alcala said to the victim during his cross examination after she testified. Without emotion, without regret, Alcala recited the words as if he had been told exactly what to say.

Anyone know where Dexter Morgan can be found?

    Does Rodney Alcala deserve Hell?

    • Yes (94%, 411 Votes)
    • No (6%, 28 Votes)

    Total Voters: 439

this guy ex’ed himself out of our unspoken social contract — as in, don’t murder other people

You beat me to the punch Human. I’d just started researching this guy last night for my own story. But knowing me it would have taken a week and would have been 3500 words long. I loved the dating game angle – I could have really ran with that, like you did. Good job my friend…

    3. vcbecky says:

You forgot the Arlo Guthrie song he used as part of his closing arguments. “”Shrink, I want to kill. I mean, I wanna, I wanna kill. Kill. I wanna, I wanna see, I wanna see blood and gore and guts and veins in my teeth…I mean kill, Kill, kill kill.” ” I don’t know what effect he wanted that to have on the jury, but all he did was terrify them. Which, in my opinion, was the correct reaction.

I love it when people try to represent themselves in court. It never works.

    4. LilMissSunshine says:

Dregs like this should be put down after the FIRST crime… ah, our criminal justice system, where a pothead will do more time than a child rapist…

    5. NewsJunkie says:

I guess he was sentenced to Death… AGAIN…. hopefully this time they mean it.

It is hard to reconcile that a game show from my childhood had a murdering baby raper on it, the bummer of that is now when I remember The Dating Game instead of remembering that Steve Martin was potential date, I will remember this shit stain instead! I hate the fact that this fuck got thirty years to commit many more violent crimes. If the laws back then had been what they are now he might have been dead long ago and saved some victim’s and their families anguish.
Usually I do not believe in big brother watching it’s citizens, but all sex offenders should be monitored much more carefully. The authorities dropped the ball on this ass wipe.

        • Fred says:

Depending onthe tupe of sexual offender (I could be one becuase I went out with a high school junior when I was a college sophmore..) I have a favorite GPS for the more dangerious exula offender – it’s called….
          Headstone
          1. Does not require batteries
          2. No problem if he satalite is not working
          3. No long term monitoring contracts
          4. Once installed on the perp, the perp can not remove it!

          • vcbecky says:

Great idea, Fred! Can we cram it in his ass before we bury him? :D

            • deedeebug95 says:

              LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!

            • Fred says:

I’d dare say “no” because we have to deal with the GPS Device (headstone) after that, but there is nothing wrong with usng the GPS Installation Device (Shovel) on the POS!

            • NavyCop says:

Can we also shove that list of items for Ahsoak up his ass??? I really, really, really wanna see if any of those would fit ;)

          • Karen_Cupcake says:

I think the state should pay for his funeral expenses.. provided that he’s buried alive.

            • deedeebug95 says:

              I will second that!

            • Fred says:

I’d much rather start a charity which would do the burring.. I live in CT and with the budget cuts they would start making the graves shallower until we would have to trust that they’d “stay dead” after being burried alive in 6 inches of dirt…..

    6. christy says:

I have seen his story before. What a piece of shit.
Believe it or not, he actually looked even creepier with SHORT hair. *shudders*

    7. Mulch says:

Good write up guy. ummm correction another good write up.

Can anyone find out if he was voted most liely to use a claw hammer while committing rape/murder?

    8. madamayhem says:

He kinda resembles the scientist guy from Area 51 in the movie “Independence Day” (the hair anyway). Let’s throw him in a room with aliens and let him have the same fate :) Oh, wait, aliens haven’t made contact yet. Damn! A claw hammer will work just fine I suppose. I am glad that bachelorette from the Dating Game made the smart decision that she did, or she would have been found like the rest of them.

    9. kathybird says:

      I’d tap that……..

    10. E says:

Anyone seen the Simpsons Worst Episode Ever, where Comic Book Guy (I’ve got him on the brain today) and Mrs. Skinner fall in love?

Watch for the bedroom scene where Mrs. Skinner has her hair down. Now picture her with dark frame glasses. it’s Rodney Alcala. Swear to Dog.

    11. Kiss My Aura says:

Woah woah WOAH! Did he actually say:

“My name is Rodney. I like kids, sharp objects, and hurting people mercilessly. I also enjoy long walks on the beach and my pet cat. Oh, and I’m a photographer.”

      ???

    12. Agarikon says:

Does Alcala Really Deserve Hell? — punishment of course, but hell?

hell in the biblical sense – not my call. hell as a symbol of alcala being an evil son of a bitch – absolutely yes.

      Causality.

Can Alcala be considered a Natural Disaster? A haywire human earthquake with stored and building anger (and the subsequent tragic release of this anger) as an emotional response to repeated rejection by his peer?

are you saying that because he’s a creep and causes people to reject him, he has permission to rape and murder and blame it on the way people treat him (something he obviously brought on himself? are you kidding us?

Is society, the medical establishment, or his peers partailly responsible for murder because they did not recognize his medical illness or disorder and attempt to make the appropriate accommodations?

that’s right, it’s society’s fault that ol’ rodney became a serial murderer and rapist. Agarikon, I hope these a facetious questions and you’re not the jackass you appear to be in this comment

“Does Alcala Really Deserve Hell? — punishment of course, but hell?”

        In one word: FUCK YEAH!

      • vcbecky says:

I don’t care about his medical illness. He’s a broken menace to society, and he needs to be put out of our misery. Stop wasting time, money and other resources trying to futilely repair worthless pieces of shit like this, and put those resources towards schooling, health care and all of the other things good law-abiding people need and want their taxes to be used for. Criminal shitstains like Alcala have taken enough from society. Let him burn and let’s move on.

        • kathybird says:

I hate that some people think that mental illness should be considered a get out of jail card, that someone can’t be held accountable because of it. In the very least, someone with a major mental malfunction should be hospitalized and heavily medicated for the remainder of their lives, but they are still accountable. I have borderline personality disorder and major depression myself, and PLEASE, if I ever kill someone, lock me up and throw away the key. Hell, give me a rope to hang myself because I don’t think that once my faculties where back in order that I’d want to live with myself.

        • deedeebug95 says:

VC, I have said the same thing in other posts. In Texas when you have a sick animal you take it out to a field shoot it in the head and burn the body!

      • vcbecky says:

P.S. I’ll take your buzzword ‘Causality” and raise you a “RECIDIVISM”. You really should fold.

      • Jason says:

Okay, let me see if I can handle this.

        P(crime | do(punish crime)) == FALSE
Punishment is not the cause of crime.

        P(crime | identification of crime)) == FALSE
The identification of crime does not cause crime

        P(crime | willful act(s)) ==TRUE

“actus non facit reum nisi mens sit rea”

Killing people was wrong, Alcala knew it was wrong, his commission of crime was a willful act. He knew there was punishment for his crimes, which is observably a reason why he concealed those crimes. His concealment was a registration of an understanding of wrongdoing. Understanding of wrongdoing falls below the registry of guilt, but exceeds the requirement of participation. The authorities are not complicit in a crime of concealment with Alcala so they are free of blame.

Society did not initially see through his concealment, so society is in need of correction, but society did eventually see through his concealment, and an artifact of society successfully prosecuted him for some of his crimes. Society is not currently in debt to either him or his victims.

The medical establishment is an at will and participatory arrangement. Alcala did not seek treatment for actions related to his crime. The state did not initially seek treatment on his behalf, because it was not a responsibility of the state at the time. The medical establishment is therefore blameless.

We have no information on his peers, but we can prove Alcala participated in willful acts to commit his crimes, and concealed from society and ostensibly unless his peers participated in some of these crimes, they are blameless.

What is Hell? Hell is a cultural belief in a punishment that extends beyond the living for crimes a culture or participating society needs to punish and make undesirable. Murder, Rape, Corruption, Treason and Conspiracy to commit the above, are crimes that society attaches weight to and desires an end to. Is a murderer deserving of Hell? By the very definition of Hell, yes.

Sigh…….There’s always gotta be one nut job who thinks scruds like this don’t deserve hell…You Wanka!!! what do you reckon?? of course he deserves it…I mean sheeeeeet!!!!!!!

    13. Amanda says:

Forget Dexter Morgan. My friend Kit and I will take care of this scumbucket. I cleaned out my basement for just this sort of thing. Now if I could only choose between using my chloroform or my bat to incapacitate the SOB…

    14. jas says:

YES this fuck deserves HELL, with, all the pain and suffering that he has caused cast upon him. Put his victims out of fear and misery already and kill this dirty bastard. I can hardly believe this case. How does something like this happen OVER AND OVER again?! It enraging!

    15. brent says:

Unfortunately our system of justice breaks down in most all aspects of the law. There is a special place in hell for this guy.

    16. deedeebug95 says:

He RAPED an EIGHT year old child! He deserves the lowest level in Dante’s “Inferno”!

    17. Jessie says:

Let me just say that I think the Dexter Morgan reference at the end is very fitting for this S.O.B.

      Dexter would f*ck him upppppp.

    18. Thomas Roberts says:

Unfortunately, there is no cure for such a creature. You could keep them in prison and chance an escape; or, you could take them out back in hand cuffs, take a .357 magnum, aim at the back of his head and pull the trigger 6 times….just to be sure. Drop him in a box and put it in the hole. That’s the remedy. Sad that the police officer who was astute enough to follow them and felt that he had the right to break-in the man’s door, didn’t empty his service revolver into center mass of this monster when he witnessesed the scene of the lead pipe, the limp little girl with blood between her legs and all over her head and this asswipe standing there naked with blood over him. The officer could have gotten tp from the bathroom and put the pipe in his hand afterward and then called the paramedics. Dead in 1968 saves lots of lives.

    19. The Bosses Secretary says:

Believe it or not, I met this guy. He went to cosmetology school with my mother in the San Gabriel Valley in California. His hair was short and black and he actually was a good looking guy. I remember what a shock it was when he got arrested.

He was creepy as hell then, too. You just got this feeling around him that he was hiding something. Finally – I knew that someday someone I knew would turn up on this website!

    20. Leonard says:

Sounds like he’ll be eligible for incarceration at Gitmo along with Radovan Karadzic.

    21. When will justice prevail? says:

… Please. Please someone tell me how a man can rape and almost bludgeon a little girl to death, gets caught RED HANDED and someone goes ahead and say: “well, we’re gonna release you in the public because you seem like such a useful member of society”

I think instead of having this forum, people who feel like this justice system is a joke should do something about it. PEOPLE DO SOMETHING. Because we’re all obsessed with our own lives thinking the law is taking care of us when it’s clear by now that it isn’t. How many more unnecessary deaths, how many more children have to be violated and eviscerated before people start demanding that these pigs be put to death quickly, and efficiently.

HE GOT CAUGHT RED HANDED THE FIRST TIME!!! I MEAN FUCKING HELL!!! WHO THE FUCK THOUGH THIS GUY WAS SANE ENOUGH TO BE RELEASED TO THE PUBLIC???????

Truly there is no God. There’s only us and we’re too fucked up to do what’s necessary to protect each other. People are selfish motherfuckers and can’t be made to give a fuck about anyone other than themselves or they would have done something to prevent the release of thousands and thousands of violent sociopaths and pedophiles. If only I could vote…if my voice mattered I wouldn’t be this helpless.

It sickens me that the ones who CAN do something about it don’t.

    22. Chinchillazilla says:
