Tyler Clementi committed suicide last Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010. He jumped off the George Washington Bridge in New York City, hit the Hudson River at nearly 200 miles per hour and died instantly.

An attorney for the family of the gifted violinist and Rutger University freshman released a statement today:

“On behalf of the family of Tyler Clementi, I can confirm that Tyler committed suicide last week by jumping from the George Washington Bridge.”

Tyler was a fine young man, and a distinguished musician. The family is heartbroken beyond words. They respectfully request that they be given time to grieve their great loss and that their privacy at this painful time be respected by all. The family and their representatives are cooperating fully with the ongoing criminal investigations of two Rutgers University students.”

The wheels of justice grind so slowly at times that it’s hard to tell if they’re turning at all. And then — sometimes suddenly — they pick up speed.

Seward County Sheriff Joe Yocum had been waiting for more than seven months for a ruling that emerged from the Nebraska Supreme Court on Friday morning. By 9 p.m. Friday, law enforcement authorities had the focus of that decision — Lucas Peterson — in custody in Columbus, with plans to return him to Seward Friday night.

The Supreme Court overruled a district judge’s decision to throw out felony charges against Peterson in the death of his infant daughter Trista in early 2007.

JURY GIVES LUCAS COE LIFE IN PRISON W/O PAROLE IN TODDLER RAPE CASE

The jury that convicted Lucas Coe of super aggravated sexual assault has reached a verdict in his punishment.

The jury returned a verdict around 12:30pm Thursday that Lucas Coe should spend his life behind bars for raping four-year-old Emma Thompson.

Evidence showed Emma had blunt force trauma to the abdomen, a skull fracture, head lacerations, about 80 bruises, and bleeding from a torn genitalia after the attack on June 27, 2009. She was later taken to a hospital, where she died.

“Life’s not even really enough for what he’s done,” prosecutor Colleen Barnett said in court. “Sometimes the smallest voices are actually the loudest. And you know that she’s talking to you.”

Two days before 19-month-old Vincent Hill died from severe abuse, his 20-year-old mother became upset with how he was eating, a prosecutor said in court Thursday.

After his death, Katheryn Nycole Dale admitted to investigators that she stuck a fork into his mouth in a way that could have caused injuries, Harvey County Attorney David Yoder said at a hearing where Dale pleaded no contest to some of the charges related to the toddler’s death.

Dale also told detectives that she slapped her son on the face and grabbed him under his chin, where he ended up with bruises, Yoder said.

A justice system is, when all is said and done, just a system. And most of us recognize that it is a system of laws far more than it is a system of justice. The Canadian justice system is no exception. The case of teen killer Kelly Ellard is a prime example of how justice can be lacking in a system of laws.

It took three trials, two appeals and eleven years to make Ellard’s second-degree murder conviction finally stick. That’s three trials, two appeals and eleven years that her victim’s parents had to suffer through to get any pseudo justice for the excruciating, torturous murder of their daughter.

“The dead cannot cry out for justice; it is a duty of the living to do so for them.”

Canada is a large country, with bragging rights to geographical size, thanks to perestroika, glasnost and the fall of communism, to being number one! Being number one, though, comes with a cost: attracting and retaining new immigrants. Asia has been one of the largest contributors to Canada’s burgeoning population since it gained independence in 1867.

Traditionally settling on the west coast, British Columbia is home to a large population of Chinese families. The culture is different and taboo subjects like pre-marital sex still create problems for young people. Sex? A good girl from a good family is not supposed to have sex before marriage. A pregnancy under these conditions would bring shame and dishonor to the family with the girl essentially becoming an outcast in her own home and community.

I hate drunk people. And I hate drunks. Recovering alcoholics I salute and wish the best, but alcoholics that continue to drink I hate.

I don’t brag about this, because indeed it is nothing to brag about, but there was once a murder in my family. And the murderer was also in my family. Cousin Wilfred was a rip roaring, full blown drunk. He lived with (mooched off) his widowed father, a sweet, elderly little man who was loved by all.

Wilfred came home drunk from the pub demanding money for more booze, but his dad refused. Wilfred picked up a cake dish and used it to violently crush his darling dad’s skull. He grabbed the money and went back to the pub, all covered in blood and brain stuff. Not the smartest killer in the world.
