September 25, 2009 was supposed to be a day of celebration for 62 year old Ian Baynham. After a long period of unemployment, he had finally secured a job as a team leader in border control at the UK Home Office and had just finished his first week.

He decided to go out for a night on the town in London with his friend Phillip Brown. What he didn’t count on that night was encountering 18-year-old Joel Alexander, 17-year-old Rachael Burke and 17-year-old Ruby Thomas.

Alexander, Burke, and Thomas had spent the night drinking heavily and were walking down the street apparently looking to start trouble.

The lawyer for the family of the wrong-way driver who killed herself and seven others in a crash on the Taconic State Parkway is going to lose his law license for 18 months for billing and bookkeeping irregularities.

The Second Appellate Division of the state Supreme Court made the ruling in the wake of a grievance committee finding that Dominic Barbara had committed four acts of professional misconduct.

Barbara represents Daniel Schuler, who denies medical findings that his wife, Diane Schuler, was drunk and high when she drove south in the northbound lanes of the Taconic parkway and crashed into a car carrying three men from Yonkers.

I’ve been sitting here racking my brain trying to figure out how to begin this story. All I can think about is my little daughter asking for my help. Later you’ll understand why I say this.

One of my biggest fears is my baby girl crying out for me to help her and I’m not there or able to protect her. That thought alone brings me to tears. Some people might say I’m over protective but there are evil ass people out there and that’s my job – to protect her.

On June 8, 1994, Stella Kiser, from Oregon, gave birth to a beautiful and healthy baby girl whom she named Tesslynn Elizabeth O’Cull. From what I can gather for 2-1/2 years, Stella was a good mommy. But Stella, now 22, felt like she needed a man. So off to the church to meet a good Christian man she went, right?!?

Some people die too soon. My friend Sandra passed away last week, a victim of breast cancer. She is loved and missed by her husband, children and stepchildren. She was a doting pet owner and an avid gardener. She was a good neighbor and a thoughtful friend. For those of us who knew her, the world is a little less shiny without her. She’s one of the ones who died too soon.

And then there are those who don’t die soon enough. Like Calgary native Donald Mumford. He is a sick man. He was diagnosed as HIV-positive almost two decades ago. He also has hepatitis and syphilis. And still he lives. He doesn’t deserve to because Donald Mumford is a very sick man. He is a sick, twisted pedophile who does not let his sexually transmitted diseases stop him from raping little boys.

Christopher Scott Thunborg, 24 was the boyfriend of Whitney Pettersson, 19.  Whitney left 13-month-old Austin Pettersson Pierce in Christopher’s care on March 10, 2008 while she worked the graveyard shift at the Utah State Developmental Center in American Fork, Utah.

Whitney came home the next morning around 7:00 a.m. and while she was in the shower Christopher told her that Austin was not breathing. He called 911 and upon their arrival little Austin was still warm to the touch in his crib.

EMS transported Austin to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center and he was immediately pronounced dead. Orem Police Lt. Doug Edwards said baby Austin had bruises on his stomach and back, ruptured bowels, sub-cranial bleeding and a lacerated stomach. He also said Austin had been sick for many months and was under a physicians care.

His broken victims were there, his disgusted peers were present as well.

But a coward to the end, Dr. Charles Smith was a no-show at the disciplinary hearing that stripped the discredited pathologist of his license to practice medicine.

Disgraceful. Dishonorable. Unprofessional. Incompetent. He was labelled all of those things by the College of Physicians and Surgeons Tuesday after his lawyer indicated that he was pleading no contest to their charges.

But it’s not enough. Revoking his medical license is hardly much of a punishment when Smith hasn’t tried to re-register since it expired under a cloud of controversy in August 2008.

JENNIFER PETKOV PLEADS GUILTY TO ASSAULT, GETS PROBATION

Jennifer Petkov, the 33-year-old Trenton resident who gained international infamy last year after she admitted to taunting her dying 7-year-old neighbor, on Tuesday agreed to a plea deal that will require her to move from her home on Detroit Street.

The News Herald reports Petkov pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault and battery in a case involving another neighbor, Tana Boling, who she allegedly tried to run over with her car.

Wayne County Circuit Judge Carole Youngblood sentenced Petkov to 18 months probation with the following conditions: psychological evaluation with treatment, if recommended; substance abuse evaluation with treatment, if recommended; anger management; no contact with Bowling or the five block area of Detroit Street, Washington, Cleveland, Park Place or Roerig.
