Pop quiz time. If your child steals from his sibling, what do you do?
a) Deprive him of television.
b) Deprive him of video games.
c) Deprive him of toys.
d) Deprive him of the necessities of life.
Unhappily for 10-year-old Jonathan James, his f*cktard father Michael Ray James and his hellbeast stepmother Tina Maria Alberson chose option (d).
After accusing this loving, good-natured boy of taking guitar strings from a sibling, this pair of murderous morons decided to punish him by making him stand at the window of a room that lacked air conditioning. What’s bad about that? They made him stand there for five days. In the full sunshine. With degrees reaching 106°F. Without water. For five days. No water.
Jonathan’s twin brother Joseph knew he was getting sick. He knew Jonathan needed water, and he was only 10. How could Michael James and Tina Alberson not know? They knew. Living in Dallas, Texas they knew about heat, yet they deprived this young boy of water to the point of death and beyond.
Damn them to hell.
Jonathan dreaded his court-ordered visit with his father and stepmother. He had called his grandma Sue Shotwell in late June to tell her he was afraid. He wanted to live with her instead. He told her, “I know I’m going to be in trouble while I’m there because I always am.”
But court-ordered visits are court-ordered visits, and there was nothing to be done but allow the boys to spend the summer with that monstrous pair in their Red Bird home.
There had previously been complaints and investigations against both Michael Ray James and Tina Maria Alberson but nothing that resulted in charges or the removal of the children from their home.
Grandma Sue Shotwell never heard from Jonathan again. The next time she saw him he was unconscious and dying in hospital.
“I told him I loved him,” she said. “He was precious, and I told him where he was going.”
It was later that she learned what had happened to him. The world would learn what had happened.
Jonathan’s fraternal twin Joseph, the poor kid, witnessed the torture and death of his brother.
“They put an X on the floor and an X on the window and the sun was coming straight through it and there was no air conditioning there,” explained Joseph.
Joseph had wanted to help, he had wanted to offer water, but he was afraid.
“But I didn’t do nothing because I would get in trouble. I wanted to do something, I just did, but I couldn’t.”
And Joseph was right to fear the wrath of those monsters.
“The day that he died, they made him eat a PBJ, a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and the peanut butter got stuck in his throat and they still wouldn’t let him have water,” continued Joseph.
Finally Jonathan collapsed and hit his head on the floor.
“When we picked him up and leaned him over the kitchen chair he was shaking and moaning,” said Joseph. “I couldn’t do nothing about it because if I said something I would end up getting in trouble too.”

So what did the brilliant pair of f*cktards do? Michael Ray James and Tina Maria Alberson decided to put him in an ice cold bath. Much too little much too late.
Next they lied and told the medics and the doctors that he’d been feeling ill for a number of days and they had been cooling him off in the tub. The boy was dying and they refused to tell the doctors what had really happened!
Shortly after his arrival to hospital and the goodbye kiss from Grandma Sue, young Jonathan James was dead.
Gone was the fun-loving cub scout, the student of the month, the loving brother, son and grandson. Gone forever for no good reason.
Michael Ray James and Tina Maria Alberson were charged with injury to a child causing serious bodily injury. Apparently it’s an easier charge to prove than murder and carries the same penalty — 99 years in prison. But you know and I know they are guilty of murdering a fine young boy.
I pray that Joseph James has a good future and feels no guilt over what was out totally beyond his control.
And I trust that Michael Ray James and Tina Maria Alberson will rot in hell after a lifelong stint of rotting in jail. Good riddance to the pair of hellbeasts!

Fucking animals. Child death is always horrifying, but the thought of watching one’s own twin brother or sister die slowly and be too paralyzed with fear to help is just nightmare fuel to me. The surviving boy is going to blame himself for the rest of his life, despite that he was just as helpless and blameless as his brother.

Speakimg as someone who HAS suffered from dehydration I can swear to all who read this there is NO FUCKING WAY those monsters can claim they didn’t realize it was so serious !!!!first you feel sick to your stomach,then really dizzy,then everything starts to turn black and your legs go numb.After that you start vomiting and fainting. That’s when somebody better get you to an E.R. Fast. My bp had dropped so low that it wouldn’t read on the gauge my heart kept stopping .My dog (don’t laugh,he really did) saved my life by helping back inside the house. Yet these monsters wouldnt even try to save a human child?Never mind it was their own child!!!! I hate to say it but sometimes the more I know people the better I like my dog !
My best friend and I ran out of water on a hike. It was an eighty-five degree day; however, we were in northern Minnesota, not far from a lake, with plenty of moisture in the air, and only had to make it a mile back to our camp site/water source. At a good altitude. Not carrying that much on us.
It is, to this day, one of my most unpleasant memories. I actually shoved down a Power Bar as we were making that trek back to the site, and I remember how that only worsened the dehydration. I REMEMBER it feeling like it was just sitting in my throat. When I read the part about the peanut butter… damn it, you ugly f***s… you could make him a sandwich, but you couldn’t give him a glass of water?!?!?!

OMG….I had to walk away and then come back to this story. This is one of those stories that will forever stick with me. I am horrified. I lost a brother at 7…he was 4. Other than losing my son recently, that’s the hardest thing I have ever been through. I can not even imagine what the remaining twin and grandmother is going through.
I hope to God that they get tortured day in and day out in prison. I wish I could skin them alive(yes I know it would take years to skin their fat ass), pour sugar water on them and hang them upside down in the sun and above a fire ant bed. I read a blog about Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s jails in Phoenix Arizona, the temperatures inside frequently go over 110 degrees fahrenheit. Perhaps they could be shipped down there and denied water?
Actually, you know.. that could be a good use for Arpaio. I’m against his practices but not for sex offenders or child abusers – put him to work punishing them! Make him a special jail!
I think the summer of 2010 I ended up getting a long term temporary position. As I’d been out of work since January of that year I was of course thrilled. The excitement literally dissipated like an hour into the first day. It was maybe 88F outside. We were for some reason doing data entry in a warehouse. An unconditioned warehouse. It was probably around 112F in there. I had to keep getting up about every 30 minutes for water and to stand in the air conditioned cop trailer that was attached to the building (I don’t know why the set-up). I felt like I was going to vomit all over my keyboard and keel over the entire day.
Then, I came back a second day! I was desperate. People complained about the conditions to some far off higher up who I am quite sure was sitting on her ass in a nice air conditioned office. She told us “WEAR SHORTS!” So I quit and luckily the unemployment office was on my side and my benefits were reinstated. I got shit for quitting from family because it was hot, but seriously I could not function mentally it was so hot. Plus I noticed the supervisor giving me the side eye and taking notes every time I went to cool off and avoid death.
An aside, these cunts weren’t even registered with the state. The lady at the employment office couldn’t even find a tax id# or any other documentation besides some cheezy website so I’m sure I got those bitches in all kind of trouble. ~giant smile~
AND MY POINT! These two horrible excuses for human beings should be forced to work in that warehouse with no water, no access to the AC trailer, until the end of their days. Which wouldn’t be long. I don’t understand why his alleged guitar string theft warranted more than taking TV away for a night or something. They apparently wanted him dead.
The brother will be haunted by this for the rest of his life. Poor baby. I only wish I could go to jail and smash a tray or two upside that step moms cranium…..
My heart bleeds for these two kids. I’m a foster parent to a beautiful little boy, I’d lay down my life for him, yet this “father” couldn’t be bothered to step up and save his own flesh and blood son from that piece of human waste that he had for a wife. The surviving twin will need a loving family and lots of therapy to help him deal with the fact there wasn’t anything he could’ve done to save his brother.
Put a bullet in their heads and be done with them, they have lost what makes them human, so put them down like the pathetic waste they are.

Five days? FIVE DAYS? 5 x 24 = 120 hours, as much of 80 in direct sunlight, all HOT. Given the appearance of the “father” and his “woman”, they gulped down 20 liters of coke and gobbled numerous Big Macs during this “punishment.” And I know they are stupid, but I thought everyone knew you couldn’t go more than three days without water (if you were, say, shipwrecked… not because two crazy bullies wouldn’t let you near a faucet). So, I agree: they KNEW they were killing him.
There are some crimes on this site that are so heinous that the guilty parties shouldn’t even be put in prison. Make them dig their grave, then shoot them so they fall inside, cover and forget. The only “if” doesn’t apply in this case since no one else could have done it. For others, after guilt is proven.

No, not bad enough. You know that poor kid suffered and suffered long, physically AND emotionally. In addition to that, they have caused lifelong trauma to the other child and probably some adults who truly loved and cared for this boy.
I want them to suffer longer. After they dig the hole do the whole “death of 1000 cuts” thing and then let the insects loose, and then, when they are begging, crying, and apologizing, hand them the cyanide and let them know that they can end their own suffering right now if they choose…
The quick death isn’t mercy for them. It’s mercy for us. But, I guess we could making the shooting non-fatal… just enough so they can’t get out of the hole.
Decent people can’t sink as low as people like these. No matter what we did to them, we know they did an evil thing. But, they were low enough to torture a kid who they say “stole.” He may not have (not that he deserved anything like they did even if he did). It is my experience that murderers have huge liars. So, I never believe anything negative they say about the victim.
But, anyway, I think some people are so evil they don’t deserve one more second of traumatizing the world with their presence.
I wish we could do a bunch of nice things for the little boy who lived. I don’t know what can really be done to help him.
I have heard of a similar case where the punished kid lived. He said if his siblings tried to help him, they got punished AND he got punished in front of them. So, they learned helping him would hurt him even more. He was very starved when found. He lived way past when most people would have died.
Greasy hair, piggy faces, beady little eyes, dumb as posts, functionally illiterate for certain, and child-killers to boot — how do these people manage to survive long enough to reproduce?

Nature can be very cruel. I have some good friends who tried everything and couldn’t have a child. They’re now great parents to two wonderful kids they adopted as foster parents. There’s a plan for everyone, theirs just happened to be adopting abused and neglected kids that were saved from monster parents.
I know this is a bit off topic, but I guess all I’m trying to say is that not all horror stories end like this. Some do have happy endings.

*sigh* Courts really need to start listening to children as soon as they can speak. You don’t need to be 14 or 16 (the ages they usually give children some minor choice about where they go) to know about abuse or fear. Reading the stories here and so often even preschool age children show signs and red-flags but get no say about where they go. This boy was 10 and he should’ve been given some say and a choice. If anyone had taken ten minutes to listen to him or his brother before they made the court-order they might realize these kids had a legit reason to be afraid. But no one ever does. It’s adult to adult (and if these idiots were ever in a courtroom you can be sure they behaved themselves because they’re just bullies to those smaller and younger).
So many of these things could be prevented if children of ALL AGES were given a stronger voice in the courtroom and could have their decisions respected. It’s not hard to differentiate between a child who is protesting going because their Mom won’t buy them a Furby, or if there’s legitimate abuse going on.
This comment was the last kick in the ass I needed to go ahead and volunteer for CASA. You’re right, these children don’t have a voice because in the eyes of the law, it seems children are less than people so, I will lend them my voice from now on and fight as hard as I can as long as I can. I would urge any of you to d the same.
I have long wanted to do CASA work, but now that my little ones are 6 and 8, taking lessons, and I’m acting as Wolf Pack Den leader (don’t even go there…) I find in addition to earning money, doing laundry and clearing the daily detritus children seem to leave in their wake I have no time for the committment.
One of my dearest wishes is that as the kids get older, can drive themselves to activities, and can be trusted alone for an hour or two I would like to be a CASA volunteer too.
Those who care about kids and want to truly help needy ones with troubled families should look into it.

I have volunteered as a CASA for the past three years. As sad as it sounds, just because a child is in the custody of the state doesn’t necessarily mean that they are better off, or even safe. The sick reality is that DHS will offer services for everything from drug-treatment, therapy, housing, food, help with child-care, etc. And it is still not enough for some of these dipshit parents to actually parent their own children. And, yes, I’m cynical. But, the one thing that I don’t understand is this: In any other situation, it would be considered morally disgusting to force an assault victim to be around the person who tried to beat him to death. We would never force a sexual abuse victim to be around their perpetrator. So why in the hell is it ever permissable or acceptable to allow children to be subjected to this when the perpetrator is a parent??
Thank you a thousand times for your efforts to be a voice of reason and an advocate for kids who have few reliable adults in their lives. I imagined CASA work had to be difficult, even heartbreaking.
I don’t hold much hope for the CJS to recognize the obviously absurd choice to force victims to remain in the control of their abusers.
Even more frustrating, I have long questioned how quality is the “help” we as a society provide for the unfortunate children born to these perpetual defectives. Foster care, other family members, and even judges seem like such a crap shoot with very few solutions that truly help the neediest children. It’s no surprise you are a cynic.
Keep up the good work. You never know what good you might have been to any one kid on any given day…
wow, this story absolutely breaks my heart! The suffering this poor little boy had to endure is horrible! I will never understand how someone can continually and purposely torture a child to death! It sickens me!
I have two beautiful twin girls, so this story hit me close to home. I have tears welling up in my eyes, as I think about that poor, tortured little boy suffering, dehydrating in the heat as the hours dragged on and on….and about his brother, watching the minutes tick by, scared out of his mind, trying to think of a way to sneak water to his dying brother. Poor Jonathan is dead because of these monsters, but at least he is beyond the realm of pain and fear and guilt. Joseph will have to deal not only with the devastating loss of his twin brother, but also the unspeakable guilt over not being able to help him. Nothing that anyone says to this boy will ever make him feel that there wasn’t something he could have done, even though we all know that was not the case. He will have to suffer with this unthinkable pain for the rest of his life. There is no punishment that is vile or despicable enough for these two monstrous human beings. They have created a chain of events that not only mercilessly and maliciously snuffed out one beautiful, innocent life, but also devastated and ruined another young, beautiful little boy. Jail is not and will never be just punishment for animals of this caliber.
This hits home for me too. I live in Texas, so I know how the weather is here. I won’t let my kids go out and play in the middle of the summer except early in the morning or late in the evening for the exact reason why this poor child died. When you live in a place where you could have a heat stroke in a matter of hours of just being out in the sun you can never be too cautious.
How do these f*cktards not realize this would kill their child? The depravity of people boggles my mind.

Step 4: Force feed a peanut butter sandwich. Laugh as they choke on it if you so desire.

This could have been avoided if the court was doing their job and not making children go off with crazy people. Amen to that! Just because a person donates sperm or eggs to the creation process does not mean that they are fit to be a parent. All that it means is that they like sex.
Now, don’t get me wrong, there’s good parents, and there’s bad parents. If the parental units have problems and can agreeably divorce and sort things out, and the children are in no danger from either of them, then by all means, joint custody and visitation is the answer BUT, if the parents can’t agree to disagree that should be a red flag that something is really wrong.
I wish there were some sort of federal law where people with a background of domestic violence should not gain joint custody or unsupervised visitation. And, if there is, then please, let me know!

I have a fraternal twin and I can’t even imagine going through this. Two boys lost their lives that day – little Jonathan and his brother who will live with what he witnessed for the rest of his life.

I wish, I wish so much that I could go back in time and swoop down and rescue this poor child and his brother, hug them, tell them everything will be okay, and make sure no one ever hurts them again. I’ve read a lot of sick stuff on the internet but this story is one of the worst.
I agree with many people I too think true justice for the victims would be if we could give the criminals the same type of treatment the victim got it would be nice to see this couple starve and go thirsty and sit in sun light for days with no water..and then tell them now you see how it feels to hurt others in such an ugly cruel evil way.
Yeah I agree with the other comment its always heavy set mean looking women that get caught abusing children..I think that they are proubly so unhappy miserable with themselves have very low self esteem they hate themselves and take it out on the poor kids around them..you could tell by just looking at this couple how mean and ugly they look on the outside in..I would get nervous to have to send a child over to them poor child..must have been a living hell something this couple deserves.

Now that I think about it, I remember reading about this story when it first happened. But at the time, there weren’t any details and it sounded like an accident. The parents had completely lied. I remember reading an article about it on Yahoo, and it said that the house didn’t have central air conditioning and the kid had been feeling sick for a few days. They completely lied and said they were trying to cool him down in the bathtub and by putting him by an air conditioner. They made it sound like it was an accident, like the house was just too hot and they were trying to cool him down. It was a total and complete lie. But I never heard anything else about it, until now.
I had no idea. They were deliberately TORTURING this poor little kid for 5 DAYS! I can’t even imagine the agony he went through. I came across a link to an article about this case last night, and now I kind of wish I hadn’t. I literally felt sick and I haven’t been able to sleep. I just keep thinking about how that poor little kid suffered so much. The brother describing how they made him eat a peanut butter and jelly sandwich after he had already been in this agony for 5 DAYS and still wouldn’t let him drink any water…my God, it just breaks my heart. I feel so angry, I wish I could kill them myself. What kind of a psychopath could watch a kid suffer and die like this??

They should be charged with double homicide since his poor brother’s life is probably ruined from all the guilt he’ll have over something that wasn’t even his fault.
