NEELY DINKINS, DRUNK DRIVER WHO FATALLY DRAGGED BABY GIRL ONE MILE TO HIS LONG BEACH HOME, GETS 36 YEARS

In one of the more heinous crimes we’ve ever come across, a drunk driver hit and dragged a baby girl in her toy wagon all the way to his home. She died.
Now the man, 35-year-old Neely Lejon Dinkins, will be dragged through the state prison system, but maybe for not as long as you’d like.
He was sentenced today to nearly 37 years behind bars, the District Attorney’s office announced.
Dinkins had a strike on his record — a 1994 robbery conviction — prosecutors say.
The collision happened Sept. 11, 2009, when authorities said he ran into the wagon on Redondo Avenue 10th Street in Long Beach.
Kaylee Alvarez, 1, and brother Oscar, 2, were being pulled across the street by their parents when Dinkins struck.
Both were dragged for a half block by Dinkins’ SUV before the boy was able to roll out when the driver stopped momentarily. The toddler survived. He continued on, dragging the girl all the way to his Long Beach home a mile away.
For that he was convicted of “second-degree murder, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, driving under the influence with injury, driving with a blood alcohol level of more than .08 with injury and leaving the scene of an accident,” according to the D.A.

This story just goes to show you why you shouldn’t drink and drive. The scumbag won.t be thinking about the little girl he killed, he’ll be thinking about himself and poor old me i’ve got this big jail sentence, spare a thought for the parents of that little girl, you’ve given them a life sentence. Mind you as far as dui’s go this sentence is a lot better than most, still if he wouldn’t have gotten behind a wheel drunk then this wouldn’t have happened. I believe its murder 1st degree, you know that you shouldn’t be driving but yet he gets behind the wheel like a weapon and starts to drive, as far as im concerned thats deliberate. I just hope the family can get back to some sort of normality but i doubt it. This wouldn’t have happened if he’d have walked or got a cab, selfish bastard.
I’m with you on that! Premeditated muder! He knew he was drunk & knew how very possible it is to kill people & he still went & got in his car not caring! That little girl got her whole life taken away & he gets a measley 37yr sentence hell prob serve 1/4 of! That’s BS! Why should murderers get 2nd chances when the people they killed don’t!

Oh my god…those poor parents.Could not imagine many things worse than watching your children being dragged to death.

My prayers are with this poor baby girl and her family. I hope somebody on the inside gives this baby killer what he deserves- repeated draggings from one end of his cell block to the other (preferably by his genetalia), repeated draggings from one end of the basketball court to the other (once again, by the balls), oh, and repeatedly being dressed in drag for the amusement of bubba….every day for the next 37 years!
There is no excuse to drink and drive. Go out with friends and name a Designated Driver (where I’m from DDs get free sodas all night), call a cab, or walk. At least a Public Intoxication charge doesn’t get anyone killed and it’s a much smaller fine with a brief stay in the “drunk tank” until you’re sober (besides, unless you’re walking in the middle of the road or being a menace no one normally jacks with a drunk person walking/ crawling home- it IS better than drinking and driving after all). Hell, if you’re like me and just stay home to drink with friends or family why even leave the comfort of your home if you’re drunk?
NOTHING can replace the life of this innocent child or ease the pain of her grieving family, but perhaps if we were all more aware (or at least made fucking idiots like this more aware) tragedys like this could be avoided. If you’re gonna get pissed, give up your keys (it’s a house rule for me, and I even have a pull out couch for such occasions!)! Who knows whose life you could save- maybe even your own!
My town just recently had a family of 4 killed by a drunk driver- dad, pregnant mom, 18-month old little girl, drunk asshole was going to wrong way down the interstate and hit them head on. When will people fricking learn already? And this asshole should have gotten life, what he did was murder. I hope he rots in hell.

This country is so Fed up at times….. We have to rely on Buba, one of the inmates to dispense appropriate justice, rather than the system itself!
But then again it’s the “criminal justice system” not the “victim Restitution System”…… so the criminals have their system and the victims…. well they are second class citizens in our courts…..

I hope the family of the little girl keeps the heat on law makers and others, else in a few years people will be more focused on the plight of Neely Dinkins behind bars forgetting why he got here in the first place.
As a parent, this just hurts to read that this guy is ONLY getting 37 years for killing a kid out of pure negligence! A little girl who was probably excited to be riding in the wagon and with her brother and family, and all of a sudden she is experiencing a frightening, painful end because some asshoole didnt care enough to call a cab or wait it out or walk home. This story just make me soo mad!
I think this is why this story disturbs me. I have two little girls. I used to walk them around the neighborhood in a wagon without even thinking about it. Now I’m practically pulling it off-road every time, and doing an assessment on how much of a chance there is to be a drunk idiot. I’m lucky. I live in a good neighborhood, and traffic is always light, but now you have to worry about every fucking driver out there and wonder if they see you, or if they’re drunk or too damn busy with their cell phone or whatever. People can be horribly selfish, and I think in cases like this they should lose their freedom forever.
Way less then deserved. I was hit by a drunk driver which caused my car to flip on the highway where I was ejected and thrown around 100 ft. I had severe road rash burns among my many injuries but I can only imagine what these babies went through. That was the most painful thing I’ve have experienced. I was recieving IV narcotics and that didn’t even touch the pain I had. I still have gravel embedded deep into my skin because it was so deep the doctors couldn’t get it out. The drunk driver walked away without a scratch and served no time bc they statute of limitations ran out somehow before they built a case.
I think there’s a decent chance of this guy feeling remorse since he wasn’t in his right mind when he did it. Alcoholics are more emotionally crippled children than sociopaths (I want to make it clear that none of my points in any way excuse any of what Dinkins did.) I hope this guy uses this tragedy to become an advocate against driving while intoxicated. It will never come close to making up for what he’s done to that innocent family, but at least some sliver of good could come from it.
Why were the parents of this little girl letting her play in traffic? This oculd’nt happened to anyone with a loud radio… i once dragged a construction cone for miles… couldn’t hear it over my car’s exhuast…he shoulda had his driver licnese taken away… and her parents should be behind bars…
They weren’t letting her play in traffic! They were going through a crosswalk, while they had the right of way. And this guy just sped through and hit the children. And even if he had his radio up loud that’s not an excuse- witnesses were screaming for him to stop driving because they saw the children caught in the wheel well. But he just kept going.

The family wasn’t playing in the road. They were legally crossing at a crosswalk, the girl was in a wagon being pulled by her parents, when Drunky McDumbass hit them and dragged the girl and her brother. He was stopped by someone long enough to get the brother out, then fucktard sped off with the girl still under the car. Did I mention he was drunk?
Yeah, he deserves to be behind bar. Fuck him, and fuck you for condemning the parents when you obviously don’t know the story and didn’t bother to check on it.

This is a tragic example of how idiotic criminals can sometimes be more dangerous than the smart ones.
I’ve been drunk before. I’ve been walk down the street in four inch heels and break my ankle drunk. I’ve been puking off the second story balcony next to the dumbfuck taking a piss off the balcony drunk. I’ve been drunk enough to hook up with the dumbfuck pissing off the balcony.
I have never been drag a kid under my car drunk. Of course, I have deliberately locked my keys in my car to avoid being able to drive drunk (I WAS going to drive home, had a few drinks, and thought it was a good idea to do this with the spare set of keys four hours away). Yeah, never driven drunk. Because that’s what asshole fuckers do, and then they kill kids.
I have no sympathy for dumbshits like this. They don’t deserve sympathy or mercy.
