Robert Melia Jr. used to be a police officer in Moorestown, New Jersey. There’s a very good reason why Robert isn’t a cop anymore.

Back in 2008, Robert Melia, 38, and his live-in girlfriend, the beautiful and talented Heather Lewis, were indicted for were indicted together on 45 counts of various charges related to the sexual assaults of all three juvenile females between June 2000 and January 2008. It seems Bobby and Heather had diddled a teenaged girl between August of 2007 and January of 2008, until she finally found enough courage to tell her stepfather about the incidents.

Needless to say, stepdad was a little pissed off, and reported Robert Melia to the Burlington County Municipal Police. Melia was quickly arrested, and suspended from the Moorsetown Police Department. As a matter of routine, a search warrant was executed for Robert Melia’s house, and his personal computer was seized as evidence.

Among other things, police found a large collection of child pornography and a video of Robert Melia sexually assaulting another young girl. They also found evidence that he and his girlfriend had assaulted a young boy, and a third teenaged girl.

By the time they were finished, Robert Melia and his girlfriend, the afore mentioned, beautiful and talented Heather Lewis, each faced nearly 45 charges: 11 counts of aggravated sexual assault, one count of aggravated sexual assault, four counts of aggravated criminal sexual contact, eight counts of criminal sexual contact, one count of endangering welfare of a child, five counts of endangering the welfare of a child, one count of invasion of privacy, and 14 counts of sexual assault.

Separately, Robert Melia was indicted on the following charges: One count of endangering the welfare of a child, and one count of official misconduct.

Lewis was indicted separately on the following charges: one count of criminal sexual contact, two counts of endangering welfare of a child, and three counts of sexual assault.

Score one for the good guys. But the same detectives who nailed Robert Melia for sexually assaulting young girls also found something they weren’t expecting to find. Never in a million years would they have been expecting to find this.

According to documents filed in Superior Court by the Burlington Count District Attorney’s Office, detectives found videos of Robert Melia committing acts of animal cruelty. Specifically, Bob-O here filmed himself being (Jeez, how can I put this delicately?) um, well, being pleasured orally by a calve. A little baby cow that is. Gives a whole new meaning to cow milking, doesn’t it?

Yes, that’s right folks, Robert Melia enjoyed having oral sex with Bossy’s baby. He must have enjoyed it, because police wound up find a total of 5 such videos, and each time there was a different calf involved. Melia was charged with tormenting the beast, “specifically by having a cow perform fellatio upon him,” which translated into 4 counts of cruelty to animals

According to Burlington County assistant prosecutor Kevin Morgan, forcing a young, innocent calve to give him a blow job is the definition of animal cruelty. During a hearing where Morgan attempted to prove just that to a judge, he had this to say:

“I think any reasonable juror could infer that a man’s penis in the mouth of a calf is torment. It’s a crime against nature.”

Like I said people, you can’t make this stuff up. But it gets even better.

State Superior Court Judge James J. Morley presided over this hearing and his decision would make legal history – well, maybe I’m exaggerating, but it did make Bizarro Land history. Basically, what the judge said was that there was no way to know if the calves felt tormented or just “puzzled”.

“If the cow had the cognitive ability to form thought and speak, would it say, ‘Where’s the milk? I’m not getting any milk,’”

He also compared baby cows to little children, and wondered out loud if they felt comforted by the sucking, as a child is with a pacifier.

“They [children] enjoy the act of suckling. Cows may be of a different disposition.”

At least His Honor let us all know he that doesn’t approve of sex with calves, although you could have fooled me, judging by his ruling

“I’m not saying it’s OK. This is a legal question for me. It’s not a questions of morals. It’s not a question of hygiene. It’s not a question of how people should conduct themselves.”

Judge Morley ordered the animal cruelty charges against Robert Melia Jr. be dropped. And so they were – there will be no justice for those five little calves who were so terribly violated. It’s a travesty of justice.

The good news is this decision doesn’t affect the sexual abuse charges in the least. Now all we have to pray that Judge Morley has nothing to do with Robert Melia’s other cases. I’d hate to have to listen to him wax poetic about the hypothetical benefits of early sexual intercourse.

Brian Hopf lived with his girlfriend, father, stepmother and stepbrother in a nice little house that his parents owned in Chandler, Arizona. On Monday morning, September 8th, 2009, his girlfriend woke to find their newborn daughter unresponsive in her crib with a deep bruise on her forehead. She immediately called 911, and paramedics rushed the baby to a local hospital, where doctors sent Isabella straight to the neonatal intensive care unit.

After further examination, doctors found multiple skull fractures, swelling to her brain, broken ribs and other body trauma. That “other body trauma” must have been the injuries to her inner thighs and genitals that police mentioned in their report, although they were awaiting the results of more tests before they would come out and say three-week-old Isabella was sexually assaulted. I, on the other hand, don’t have a problem saying that Brian Mark Hopf probably raped his own newborn daughter.

The cops, of course, were anxious to interview Brian Mark Hopf. They wanted to know how such a helpless little child managed to get herself so badly injured. According to Brian, he was feeding Isabella at about 4 a.m. when he accidentally poked her in the eye. The girl cried so hard, he said, she stopped breathing for about a minute. He started chest compressions and she began breathing again, but he didn’t call 911 or tell any of the other four adults in the home.

When police told him about the skull fractures, he responded that he tripped and fell while holding Isabella. How convenient. Doctors disagreed with Brian Hopf’s story. They said the skull fractures were from multiple blows to the head, which caused irreversible brain damage, swelling and bleeding.

No one expected the little girl to survive her injuries, and a week later, Isabella Hopf, 4 weeks old, died.

Violent behavior is nothing new for Hopf. He has a history of domestic violence, and in fact was arrested a month before Isabella was beaten for just that charge. He also has convictions for Marijuana Sales and Identity Theft. He still may face a sexual assault charge for the rape of Baby Isabella.

On Wednesday, September 16th, Brian Mark Hopf was indicted by a Maricopa County Grand Jury on charges of First Degree Murder and Aggravated Child Abuse. If convicted on the Murder Charge, Hopf will face the death penalty.

On January 17, 2008, he found Denise Amber Lee, a beautiful 21 year old married mother of two boys.

Michael King didn’t flirt with her, ask her for her phone number or invite her on a date. He instead chose to come on really strong and abduct her from her home at gunpoint, leaving her two terrified children in the house alone. Three hours later, her husband came home to find his sons crying for their mother who was nowhere to be found, with her purse, cell phone and car still there. He called 911 and filed a missing person report with Northport police officers at 3:29 PM.

At 6pm, Michael King showed up at the home of his cousin Harold Muxlow. He asked him if he could borrow a shovel, a can of gasoline and a flashlight. Good old cousin Harold obliged him and gave him the items despite noticing something unusual in Michael’s car, a frightened-looking woman he’d never seen before who was tied up. She begged him to “call the cops”. Harold also noticed that after loading the shovel, gas can and flashlight in his car, Michael hit the woman and knocked her back down into the back seat then took off.

At 6:14 PM, 911 dispatch received a call from Michael King’s cell phone. A frantic woman was heard pleading with a man shouting in the background, at one point saying “I’m sorry. Please let me go. Please let me go. Oh God please please help me please let me see my family again.” The call lasted 6 minutes before being cut off. Incredibly, the police officers searching for Denise because of her husband’s 911 call were not told of her desperate plea for help.

Less than 15 minutes after Denise’s 911 call, the daughter of Harold Muxlow called 911 to report that her father told her he saw Michael King struggling with a woman in his car after borrowing the gas can, shovel and flashlight.

Three minutes after Muxlow’s 911 call, another call was received from a woman describing a dark Camaro beside her on the road, with a man and screaming woman inside. The caller was put on hold because there was a shift change happening at the 911 center. 8 minutes later the call ended when the caller told of Michael King’s car turning down another road and out of her sight.

Police officers arrived at Michael King’s house just 3 minutes after that 911 call, having located his address using the cell phone number recorded during the call made by Denise Lee. They entered the house and found several pieces of evidence indicating a likely kidnapping, one of them being long hair stuck on a piece of used duct tape.

Yet another 911 call was made shortly after that by Harold Muxlow in which he said he’d seen Michael King 15 minutes earlier in another location about 5 miles from where’d he’d been spotted driving around with a terrified woman in his car by the previous caller. By this time there was an all-points bulletin out describing King and his car.

Three hours later a Florida Highway Patrol trooper stopped Michael King on Interstate 75 and arrested him. He was alone, his pants were wet from the knees down and a roadside search of his car revealed a dirty shovel and duct tape. He exercised his right to remain silent and did not answer any questions at all, including any about the disappearance of Denise Lee.

Two days after Michael King’s arrest, the naked body of Denise Lee was found buried in a shallow grave a half mile from where he’d been stopped by the FHP. Denise had been tied up, blindfolded, raped and shot in the right temple.

Michael King pled not guilty to charges of kidnapping, rape and first-degree murder. During his week-long trial in August, his attorneys maintained that another man had committed all the crimes King was charged with, despite the fact that King’s semen was found on Denise’s body, her blood was found on the hood of his car, one of her rings was inside the car, her hair and DNA were found in his house and duct tape proven to be torn from the roll in his car was still stuck to her hair when her body was found.

Thankfully, the jury didn’t buy the bullshit story the defense gave and took only two and a half hours to find Michael King guilty of Aggravated Kidnapping, Aggravated First Degree Sexual Assault and Premeditated Murder on August 28, 2009. The following Friday the same jurors unanimously recommended he be executed for his crimes.

I’ll be waiting for the day I can bid you “Adieu!”, Michael King. I’m going to celebrate the moment you leave this Earth forever, as will the family of Denise Lee and many others.

Editor’s Note: I have nothing for admiration for Denise Lee. My wife and I watched a great deal of this trial on TruTV these past couple of weeks, and IMHO Denise did more to convict Michael King than any other one person. Not only did she make the 911 call, she also had the presence of mind to leave her wedding ring in his car. Also, when you listen to her beg and plead for her life during the infamous 911 call, and you here Michael King’s own voice taunting her, basically telling her she was going to die, you will realize, as I did, that she was testifying from the grave. She was making sure there was no chance Michael King was going to escape this courtroom with his life.

As for the 911 dispatchers who handled the call from the driver who heard Diane’s screams for help and saw her pounding on the car windows begging her for help, they were damned. They somehow screwed up so badly that although the call came in a approximate 6:35 PM, a Sarasota County Deputy didn’t respond to the spot where King’s car turned off the main highway until almost 8:30 PM – nearly 2 hours later. The only good that has come from Denise’s death was that the entire 911 system for the State Of Florida is now scheduled to be updated.

Today, there is good news and there is bad news. Fast forward 18 years to August 26, 2009. Although this story is still playing out, it is a bittersweet moment for Terry and her long lost daughter. Jaycee walked in to the Concord police station and identified herself as the child who was abducted on June 10, 1991. The good news is Terry has her daughter back.

The bad news is that she was kept chained like an animal in the backyard of a what police described as a “compound” where Phillip and Nancy Garrido kept her locked up as a sex slave. Because Phillip Garrido is a certifiable nutcase (check out his blog here), he set himself up to finally have this whole charade unravel, thankfully because of the diligence of a Concord (California) parole officer.

According to News10 (Sacramento/Stockton/Modesto area):

A parole agent questioning convicted sex offender Phillip Garrido, 58, helped solve the 18-year mystery of Jaycee Dugard’s kidnapping.

Garrido was on parole in Contra Costa County following his 1999 release from a Nevada prison for a rape conviction. Garrido had also served time in the federal prison at Lompoc for rape.

The idiot was at UC Berkeley trying to distribute propaganda when he was stopped by campus police officers, who say him with two small children.

According to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, a parole agent summoned Garrido into the Concord parole office after police officers at UC Berkeley spotted Garrido with two small children.

During the office visit Wednesday, Garrido was accompanied by his wife Nancy, another adult woman and two small children. The parole agent contacted the Concord Police Department to help determine the identity of the two children and the unidentified woman who accompanied Garrido.

Fucking scum. How could this happen? A registered sex offender and nobody checked in on him—ever? 18 years of torment and torture for this innocent young girl? He fathered children with her when she was 14 years old—and NOBODY knew about it? America has its own Josef Fritzl…with his dumbass wife right by his side the whole time.

CDCR officials said in a statement:

“The diligent questioning and follow up by the parolee’s agent of record led to Garrido revealing his kidnapping of the adult female. It was further revealed by Garrido that she was Jaycee Lee Dugard and that the children were his.”

I am overwhelmed by feelings of grief, hatred and joy, and if I had five minutes with this couple, it would be their last five minutes. I am not close enough to the Dugard family to have had a close relationship with Jaycee, but my heart is heavy with sadness for the loss of innocence for this beautiful child.

I want to write a lot more about this story, but for now, I will leave it to the media to provide more information. All I know is, there is NO DOUBT in my mind that these two deserve hell.

Abneris, 30, and her live-in boyfriend, Alfred, 37, moved to Dallas from Florida, in search of the American Dream; tagging along for the ride were Abneris’ daughter, her two sons, and a daughter the couple made together. Forgive me for saying, but I think their sights were set a little lower than the typical “American Dream as they took up residence at a Budget Suites of America extended stay hotel, directly off a major freeway in Dallas. The family stayed in the confined quarters for just about a year, until the beginning of July, when their journey together came to an abrupt end.

Abneris’ brother, Abner, stated he came to Texas from Ohio at the urging of his mother after she had a phone conversation with his sister. The mother had grave concerns about her family from the minute Abneris hooked up with Alfred and moved away from her; she was raising her grandchildren and was afraid of the kind of care they were receiving now that they were gone. Abner arrived just in time to catch the discovery of the torture being inflicted on his niece and nephews.

Abneris Santiago phoned police in Dallas on this morning of July 2, 2009 requesting help to remove her children and belongings from the hotel room. Upon police arrival, Abneris knocked on the door to motel room 2019B requesting admittance from Alfred who was in the room. She would claim later that he refused to let her have a key to the room. Mr. Santiago opened the door, surprised to find the little party standing on the other side of it. Based on information stated in the official affidavit filled out by the police on scene, the room was kept immaculately. There was a healthy one year old girl present in the room, sleeping in a crib. Police continued checking around the room; that’s when they found the Santiago’s’ dirty little secret.

Locked in the bathroom were three emaciated, underweight, malnourished children. There was an 11 year old girl who weighed 59 pounds, a 10 year old boy who weighed 58 pounds and was covered in bruises, and a 5 year old boy who weighed a whopping 29 pounds. I checked into this and found out that the average weight for an 11 year old girl is 79.2 pounds. The average weight for a 10 year old boy is 70.4 pounds, and for the average 5 year old boy it is 41.8 pounds. The Santiago children sure seemed to be lacking a little bit. Police officers noted all three children were suffering from serious physical, mental, and emotional neglect. Each of the children displayed obvious signs of the neglect including; dry and swollen lips, protruding ribs, and sunken cheeks and eyes.

Children’s Protective Services were called in immediately and workers tried to feed the children for the first time in Jesus only knows how long, unfortunately, their tummies were so empty they threw up their first taste of food. The children were removed from their dire surroundings and evaluated by a doctor; all three of the children were hospitalized for 10 days. As soon as they were released from the hospital, the three joined their sister in temporary foster care. The 10 year old boy was placed back in the hospital at a later date for some additional problems he was experiencing.

Police cars and ambulances tend to bring out the rubbernecker in all of us; and the guests at this hotel were no different. A few guests told reporters that they had seen the couple around the grounds of the hotel, which had several apartment complex like buildings, but none of them were ever aware there were children with them. The seemed to have done quite a good job of concealing the children and their hideous ways.

While in the hospital, the 11 year old girl admitted to police that she had been sexually abused by her mother’s boyfriend while he was in charge when her mother was at work. She graphically described the rapes and told officers about the oral sex she was forced to perform on Mr. Santiago. The girl was threatened that she would be killed if she ever told her mother about the abuse. Police and CPS workers also learned that the children were locked in that tiny bathroom day- in day-out for almost a year; the only time they were let out was when Alfred showered. Other forms of torture were regular beatings and irregular feedings; these activities weren’t limited to the little girl.

Abneris and Alfred were arrested from their hotel room. Abneris (Her Arrest Record) was charged with injury to a child and is being held on a $50,000 bond. Her attorney, James Jamison, stated that her initial court appearance on the charge will not be until August 3, 2009. Alfred (His Arrest Record) was charged with aggravated sexual assault and continuous sexual abuse and is being held on a $125,000 bond. His attorney, Richard Carrizales, declined to make a statement. I am glad these two have both been charged; but, I am seriously wondering why some are missing?

Abneris’ attorney, Mr. Jamison, claims that she has made mistakes in the past about her male companions and he believes that Alfred was controlling her and her children. He also claims that she was afraid of what would happen if she came forward about the abuse. By her having made mistakes in her past and not learning from them; shouldn’t she be facing more charges? The fact that she continuously got in the same kind of relationships proves she didn’t give a damn about bettering herself or for providing a better life for her kids.

She was afraid to report the abuse? Sure she was. I totally believe that. But as afraid as she was, she knew her children were stuffed in a bathroom and being starved for a year; any other mom would have taken a couple smacks to make sure her kids were fed or a couple of punches to try to get them somewhere safe. Instead, she went to work and came home. She fed her youngest daughter, her spawn with the devil himself. She slept in a bed probably not 10 feet away from where her kids were sandwiched together in misery. Afraid, sure? But, she was also indifferent to the pain being felt by her children.

Lawyers for the hotel have stated that there was no reason to believe anything was going on in the room; they had received no complaints from other guests. The hotel offered a maid service for guests that was available for an extra charge. It is not clear if any staff ever entered the room.

I couldn’t imagine being locked in a whole house for a year, let alone a room. Those kids are a helluva lot tougher than I am. Hopefully, with some counseling and having their mother banished from them for life, these kids will become something great.

Editor’s Note: And if this story wasn’t already aggravating enough, Alfred Santiago gave an interview with the Dallas Morning New where he claimed it was HE who was being abused, not the children who were starved and locked in the bathroom for a year. Seriously. Check this guy out:

The man accused of shutting three kids inside a bathroom for months, starving them and repeatedly raping one, said Wednesday that he – not the children – is the victim.

“The one who is being disrespected right now is I, because I’m the one who’s being abused,” said 37-year-old Alfred Santiago during an interview inside the Dallas County Jail.

In Wednesday’s interview, Santiago accused the children of, among other things, raping babies and pouring urine on his infant daughter.

“What I was doing is protecting my baby daughter from her (his girlfriend’s) kids,” Santiago said. “What I did was I did not leave my daughter out of my sight.”

At the same time, Santiago said it was his girlfriend, not him, who kept her kids shut inside the bathroom. Authorities say Santiago stayed home during the days while his girlfriend worked at a barbecue restaurant.

But Alfred Santiago said Wednesday the children had access to “mountains of food,” claiming authorities had photos to prove it.

“They were skinny because they were not eating the food,” he said. “I was feeding them, but they were not eating the food.”

He accused reporters who probed him further of being out to get him, saying society is generally biased against men: “I’m a man in the United States. We’re treated very unfairly when it comes to a woman.”

“If people will start looking for what they need to be looking for,” he said, “they will find the truth.”

I’m telling you people, some folk have no shame, and no respect for the other guy’s intelligence. How does a person like Alfred say these kinds of things with a straight face, while all the time knowing he’s lying his ignorant, child raping ass off. What I wouldn’t give for a chance to choke the living shit out of Alfred Santiago.

Laura Tennessen was a very pretty young woman, who had met an unfortunate end to her 20 year existence when she was killed in a motorcycle accident on August 27th, 2006. Laura’s brother had preceded her in death, so her passing was a huge blow both to her entire family and the community. Laura’s obituary can be found here.

As it is customary when most people pass away, Laura was given a wake, funeral and burial. Her obituary was printed on August 29th in the local paper and beside it was her picture, where she was shown in the way those who loved her would want to remember, smiling and exuberant. Nicholas, Alexander and Dustin weren’t going to let a little thing like death get in the way of their conquest for that holy grail, dammit. Upon seeing Laura’s picture, they hatched a plan to drive to the cemetery, dig up her body and carry it back with them to their house where they would… well, you get the picture.

I have to pause for a moment, and wonder what those boys thought they would find upon opening the casket? After all, Laura had been dead for a week, and anyone with even the most rudimentary understanding of human biology knows that embalming will only get you so far. After a few days, the skin becomes fully marbled and discolored. Skin starts to slip away, and the early stages of decomposition begin to set in. Not to mention that when a body is prepared as a funeral home, the corpses’ orifices are sewn shut, to prevent leakage. I know, appetizing. But the point is, one has to stop and wonder if the boys believed that the same fresh faced, beautiful girl would be waiting for them in that tomb? Or worse, if they were completely aware of the condition her body might be in and overlooked it in their desperation.

Anyway, the boys took a little trip the night of September 2nd, 2006 to Laura’s final resting place at the St. Charles Cemetery in Cassville. Armed with a big ol’ box of condoms from the local Wal-Mart and some shovels, the boys began to dig. I gotta say, the fact that they brought condoms made me laugh out loud. You’re about to have sex with a corpse, but you don’t want to do it without a condom because well, that would just be gross. Brilliant thinking, guys.

Eventually Nicholas, Alexander and Dustin reached the concrete vault which encased Laura’s casket and were able to clear the dirt off her memorial plaque, which read “L.J.T July 27th 1986-August 27th 2006.” Just one month past her 21st birthday. So they’d gotten that far, but it was going to be a pretty tough job budging that concrete off the casket. Luckily at that point, the boys heard a car driving into the cemetery. Someone had heard noise coming from inside the cemetery and called the police. Leaping from the grave, they took off running into the night leaving the cops on call to find a pretty disturbing scene and Laura’s final resting place in disarray.

The boys could run, but they couldn’t hide. Officer Brent McDonald, who was dispatched to respond to the disturbance in the cemetery and was patrolling the area on a call about a suspicious looking vehicle, stopped a sweaty and freaked out Alexander Grunke, who was dressed in all black and acting like he’d just been attempting to do unspeakable things to a dead body. He ‘fessed up pretty quickly when the cop questioned him and the three boys were brought in for interviewing, where they outlined their genius plan to dig up the body, bring it back to Grunke’s house and have sex with it. What they planned to do with the body after they’d gotten their jollies I have no clue, but I’m damn glad they didn’t get the chance.

Originally, judges in the local court had their hands tied on how to charge these three creeps. Obviously what the three men had done was wrong, but with no laws in Wisconsin deeming necrophilia specifically a crime, it looked as though the Grunke brothers and Radke were going to only be looking at charges like vandalism and destruction of private property.

As the story spread, general reaction from the public and assistance from a Wisconsin lawmaker demanded that necrophilia be recognized as a crime punishable by a court of law and the original ruling was appealed. The case ended up going all the way to the supreme court of Wisconsin, which declared that having sex with a corpse is illegal because dead bodies can’t give you actual consent (see the court’s decision here). The charges of attempted sexual assault that would have inapplicable before the laws were changed, were reinstated once necrophilia in the state of Wisconsin officially became recognized as a crime.

Once officially charged, Nicholas and Alexander Grunke and their accomplice Dustin Radke were all facing up to a 10 year sentence and some hefty fines for what they were planning to do with Laura Tennessen’s dead body. Dustin Radke, in the only good decision he’s made since birth, pled no contest to 3rd degree sexual assault charges on February 19th, 2009. You can view his court records here.

The Grunke brothers (man, even their last name is gross) entered a plea of not guilty on November 19, 2008. Justice Patience Roggensac says the reason for passing the state law was pretty clear: having sex with someone who does not consent is a definite crime, whether the person is alive or not. She also added this little zinger, saying “A reasonably well-informed person would understand the statute to prohibit sexual intercourse with a dead person.” Lolz.

Despite everything that happened, and a confession from these 3 perverts, the case ended in a mistrial. Lawyers for Alexander Grunke alleged that his initial arrest on that night back in 2006 was invalid because the boys’ “suspicious looking vehicle” had been parked legally, and at the time Officer McDonald questioned Alexander Grunke (his court records), any answer he got was not valid because Grunke would have been under no obligation to answer any questions, as he was not under arrest. Lawyers for Radke and Nicholas Grunke (his court records) argued that this made their arrests invalid as well.

Jurors were deadlocked on the boys’ charge of attempted sexual assault, only finding them liable for attempted misdemeanor and criminal damage to a cemetery. But assistant district attorney Tom Pozorski isn’t willing to let this one slide, and says he is going to retry the case.

The moral of the story is guys and gals, before you go trying to start a singles mixer at your local cemetery, remember these words of wisdom: there’s always someone out there who is just as drunk as you are horny. And all kidding aside, I believe these guys do belong in hell, for being putting their own pathetic agenda over a young woman’s right to dignity in death, and her grieving family. Mistrial or not, and despite the many legal loopholes in this case, they tried to dig up a body and have sex with it, and it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out why that is very very wrong.

Let me tell you the story of Darryl Littlejohn. Born in 1965, it didn’t take this little guy long to fall into a life of crime. In 1977, at the ripe old age of 12, Darryl went to a parade. Hey, I probably liked parades at 12, too. Well, I don’t think Darryl was having too much fun at the parade because he decided it would be a good idea to rob a 70 year old woman for $49. Good take for a 12 year old, huh?

I don’t think it scratched Darryl’s itch, though, since he continued on with his renegade lifestyle. From 1977 until 2006, Darryl Littlejohn spent 20 years in prison on 10 separate convictions. Including, but not limited to; robbing a 73 year old woman at knife point, slashing a shop-owner with a razor during a botched robbery, participating in a bank robbery, and getting caught with almost 600 vials of crack cocaine….WHEW, my fingers almost cramped up typing all that.

Finally, in 2004 Darryl Littlejohn was released back into society on parole. Well, we all know what parole means—not a damn thing anymore. Maybe he was going to do something good with his life; but probably not. It didn’t take long for the world to see his intentions for the future.

In January of 2005, Mr. Littlejohn attended a 3 day course at a phony school. The school was called, “U.S. Recovery Bureau”. Apparently this school taught people to behave as police officers—upholders of the law. Following the 3 day course, attendants would receive a badge and ID, plus be allowed to purchase handcuffs. Probably it wasn’t a good idea to allow Darryl Littlejohn in this class, and the school is facing punishment. (The U.S Recovery Bureau was shut down in 2008 by NYPD and Federal Marshalls for giving out official looking badges to convicted felons. Of the 943 “graduates” of the school, 78 –including Littlejohn, were convicted felons. The school is under a federal indictment.)

Following his stint in school, Littlejohn decided to put his training to use. He dressed as an officer of the law and stopped 19 year old Shanai Woodard, a student at York College, on her way home from class sometime later in 2005. He presented a badge and demanded to see her I.D, which she presented immediately. She freaked out when he put her in handcuffs and refused to tell her what she had done.

Woodard decided she was going to fight tooth and nail because something wasn’t right— it’s just not kosher when you get put into some random van in the middle of the afternoon; not for most people, anyway. Shanai unlocked the door to the van and screamed for help. Littlejohn proceeded to beat her about the head to make her shut-up. Instead of becoming the victim of a worse crime, and quite possibly losing her life, Shanai threw herself from the vehicle in view of bystanders; the crowd prevented Littlejohn from retrieving his victim.

Shanai gave police a description of Littlejohn that was incorrect. She also misidentified him in a line-up that was 5 months after the attack. I’m just assuming here, but probably her mistakes were because she was more focused on saving herself than staring into his eyes lovingly. Yeah, we all like to think that we would memorize every detail of our assailants face, but I don’t think anyone really ever knows until they’re in that situation. Unfortunately, because of the lack of a proper identification Littlejohn was free to continue to wreak havoc on unsuspecting victims.

The saga continues.

Now, I want to introduce you to Imette Camilla St. Guillen first. Imette was born in Boston, Massachusetts in March of 1981; where she was raised and educated. She was beautiful. She was a National Honor Society Scholar and well liked by her peers. Deeply loved by her close-knit family, her deceased father influenced her career choice. Imette and her sister, Alejandra, both received the Carol DiMaiti Stuart Foundation Scholarship. (The scholarship was set up by the DiMaiti family following the murder of their daughter, Carol, by Charles Stuart.) This girl was everything Darryl Littlejohn could NEVER be.

Imette was about to turn 25 in February 2006. She had an undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice from George Washington University; where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. She was in her final year of school at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City, working towards her Master’s Degree. She was ready to begin life—ready to make a difference in the world, but not until she celebrated her upcoming birthday.

Toward the end of February 2006, Imette took a short trip to Florida. She returned to NYC on the 25th, where she continued to celebrate her quick approaching birthday. St. Guillen took her best friend, Clair Higgins, out for a night on the town. The two women went out and visited the Pioneer Bar, where they stayed until about 3:30am. Clair wanted to go home, and Imette wanted to stay out; the two argued. Clair got in a cab and went home. Imette walked to another bar. Alone.

Higgins called Imette a bit later and spoke to her; but Imette did not state where she was. She was at The Falls Bar. Just an interesting fact about this particular bar—it is owned by the Dorrian Family. The Dorian family also owned another bar called, Dorrian’s Red Hand. Dorrian’s Red Hand is where Jennifer Levin met Robert Chambers, “The Preppy Killer” nearly 2 decades ago.

This is the last time Imette St. Guillen was seen alive. This girl stumbled into Darryl Littlejohns world of terror. Darryl; a convicted felon, was employed in a bar as a bouncer. By working in the bar he was violating the curfew stipulation of his parole agreement.

Imette was out of contact with her friends and family for 17 hours. They hoped for the best and expected the worst; this was not like her. At the end of this 17 hour period, police received an anonymous phone call from a pay phone telling them they had found the body of Imette St. Guillen off of a road in Brooklyn called The Belt Parkway (AKA. Fountain Avenue).

Police responded to the call; and found what they hoped wasn’t really there. Imette was found nude, raped, tortured and murdered. Packing tape was wrapped around her head, a sock was shoved in her mouth, her hands and feet were bound with plastic ties, and some of her hair was cut off in clumps. Her body was wrapped in a floral print bedspread. The Medical Examiner determined Imette’s cause of death to be asphyxiation due to strangulation. He also determined that she was either “gang raped” or raped with multiple different objects. The only way for family to identify the body was through forensic photographs.

The investigation into this heinous crime had begun.

The manager of the bar where Imette was last seen, Daniel Dorrian, repeatedly lied to the police. He first said Imette wasn’t there. Then he changed his story; saying that she was there and his bouncer escorted her out prior to closing; and he has no idea what happened after that. Witnesses came forth stating they were privy to a loud argument between the woman and the bouncer outside the bar. Dorrian claimed he lied because he knew the repercussions of getting involved and he just didn’t want to. What an asshole—wow!!

Police investigated and investigated. Finally, things started coming together.

Remember, Shanai Woodard? She was watching the news with her mom one night and something scared the crap out of her—Littlejohn’s van. The van she threw herself out of. She called police and let them know.

Littlejohn was sent to Rikers Island Prison in 2006, where he was held on a parole violation (rumored to be the curfew violation). The van was searched with a probable cause warrant and police found Woodard’s DNA. His charges were upped then to kidnapping, robbery, assault, and criminal impersonation of an officer.

Finally Littlejohn was linked to the St. Guillen case. The flowered bed spread Imette was covered in had one of his mother’s pubic hairs on it, as well as, his brother’s semen. The ties binding her hands and feet had DNA evidence; said to be from a nosebleed Littlejohn had. I hope Imette punched him square in the face while he was torturing her, knowing she would help catch her own killer. Another source of DNA was a window scraper found next to Imettes body…what an idiot.

Littlejohn was now sitting in Riker’s Island; charged not only with the kidnapping, robbery, assault, and criminal impersonation of an officer, now he could add 1 count of first degree murder and 2 counts of second degree murder. This monster was finally getting what was coming to him.

In October, 2008, Littlejohn went on trial for his attack on Shanai Woodward. He was convicted on all charges on November 8, 2008; it took the jury less than 3 hours. He received a sentence of life in prison. AMEN.

Judges wanted the trial for Imette’s murder to occur swiftly; unfortunately, it got assigned to a few different judges. The trial finally started May 12, 2009.

Littlejohn fired his first attorney; he didn’t do good enough work in Darryl’s eyes. His next attorney, Joyce David, filed a legal brief with the court. 36 pages of dumb shit; conspiracy after conspiracy. The best one; that Rudy Giuliani was framing Littlejohn on behalf of his family. Apparently the Dorrians are somehow related to the former Mayor. Littlejohn’s attorneys at multiple points in time have claimed that Daniel Dorrian killed Imette and framed Darryl. That’s why Darryl left multiple pieces of DNA on the plastic ties used to bind her — makes sense. NOT. Well, maybe to a nincompoop.

The defense also said that the search warrants were served illegally; and evidence was obtained the same way. They only called 2 witnesses to the stand to prove their case. It seems like these lawyers were more into showboating than anything else.

No one believed this little conspiracy theory gobbledygook — a jury convicted Littlejohn of First Degree Murder on July 9, 2009. They were only deliberating for 7 hours. He was sentenced to life without parole. His sentences are to be served consecutively (one right after another). When his sentence was announced; it is said that Darryl Littlejohn, who wore sunglasses throughout the trial, stared straight ahead with no hint of emotion.

Maureen St. Guillen, Imette’s mother, is keeping her daughter’s memory alive with many scholarships and funds. These are all possible because of the lawsuits she has filed against anyone responsible for the death of Imette. Good for her. She has sued the Federal Government in civil court for 200 million dollars for their failure to keep track of Darryl Littlejohn. Defendants are listed as: the Department of Justice and the U.S. Probation and Pretrial Services Program.

She filed suit against The Falls bar and reached an unspecified settlement with the Dorrians out of court. The money from that settlement is going to support the “Spirit of Imette” foundation. She has filed suit against U.S. Recovery Bureau (remember…the school Littlejohn attended to get his bogus badge). The amount asked in the lawsuit is undisclosed; but it does say that they are being sued because the badges they made available to Littlejohn enabled him to be employed as a bouncer.

A group of friends on Craigslist boycotted The Falls Bar; and they lost their liquor license. Despite this, the Dorrian’s continue to be lucratively prosperous in New York and New Jersey.

Of course the defense attorneys plan on filing appeals. It’s a given.

Honestly, if this case shows me anything, it is that our ways aren’t working. How does someone with multiple violent felonies continue to get paroled, especially when he is violating that parole when it is granted? I wish we, as a people, were strong enough to make a stand—one that would work in changing something. How does someone get caught in possession of 600 vials of crack cocaine and not get the book thrown at them. I thought there were mandatory Federal sentences for drug offenses. Darryl Littlejohn should NOT have been on the streets to victimize any of these young women. And the fact that he was rings a resonant WRONG in my ears.

I watched this case, literally, from the beginning. I remember being awake when the news broke about her missing scrolled across the screen. I remember watching the same said news show when they were covering the search for her. I remember hoping she was OK; but suspecting she wasn’t. I remember crying when they found her body. I remember seeing her mom and sister absolutely debilitated with grief. I thought about someone with so much promise being taken from the world, by someone who represented the very epitome of who she wanted to help and rehabilitate; if that isn’t irony, I don’t know what is.

Nyia Miangel Page was reported missing the early morning hours of Saturday, February 3, after a family member alerted her parents that she was not in her sleeping area. Police were called and an Amber alert was issued and 70 police and rescue workers, along with neighborhood volunteers and bloodhounds, began a search for her in the snowy 20-degree weather.

According to Nyia’s mother, Darlene Robinson, she had last seen Nyia around 12:30 a.m. when the little girl tried to climb into bed with her, and that she had carried her back to her own bed in an upstairs room. Police continued the investigation by interviewing everyone who had been in the home during the night, and while interviewing the 6 year old child who had discovered Nyia missing, found out some disturbing information about Mr. Page.

The child told specialists at Mercy Hospital that Page often hit him with a belt, and that in the hours leading up to Nyia’s disappearance, Page had crawled into bed with him, putting his hand over his mouth and molesting him, afterwards leaving the room with Nyia following behind. This made William Page the main suspect, and he was arrested later that day on charges of simple and indecent assault of a child, endangering the welfare of a child and corruption of a minor.

Following his arrest, detectives interviewed Page a second time regarding Nyia’s whereabouts, and he informed them to search the woods “near the railroad tracks”. Nyia was found around 3:13 p.m. Sunday, February 4 in an abandoned playground in Rankin, about 10 minutes from her home. She was facedown, curled into the fetal position and wearing only a small sweater.

Following the recovery of Nyia’s body, her father was interviewed a third time, during which police obtained a confession. Page stated that he had gotten out of bed to use the bathroom around 3 a.m. and found Nyia playing with a mirror in the hallway. He told her to go back to bed but she attempted to follow him to the first floor of the home. He then repeated his command, but when Nyia began to scream, he angrily back-handed her, causing her to fall and hit her head, losing consciousness.

Following this, Page said he went to the basement to get a towel and blanket. He then wiped Nyia’s head with the towel, wrapped her in the blanket and carried her a few blocks away to the railroad tracks, telling police she was still unconscious but breathing when he left her there and headed back home to sleep. However, during Page’s preliminary hearing on February 23, Allegheny County Detective Robert Opferman took the stand and recounted a slightly different version of events.

According to Detective Opferman, Page admitted to waking around 3 a.m. and going to the basement to have some brandy. Shortly after, Nyia came downstairs without a diaper, and because Page was frustrated with her, kicked her between the legs, causing her to bleed. He then vaginally penetrated her with his fingers to “stop the bleeding”, wrapped her in a blanket and took her outside, considering dropping her in a sewer before finally leaving her in the woods.

He went on to say that Nyia cried for 10 minutes before he began the trip home alone to go back to bed. Tiny footprints in the snow suggested that Nyia had wandered around for a time all by herself before finally collapsing and dying of hypothermia on a morning where temperatures reached only 8 degrees.

William Lorenzo Page was charged with criminal homicide, kidnapping, making false reports and simple assault. A charge of aggravated assault would later be dropped when an autopsy found no evidence of a kick to Nyia’s groin.

William Page’s trial in the death of his daughter and the sexual assault of both her another child in the home was due to start on May 5, 2008, but was granted two continuances on the basis that his attorney needed more time to work on his defense. In addition, Page’s legal representation sought separate murder and assault trials on the basis that adding a sexual assault victim to a murder trial would prejudice the jury, and also moved to have Page’s confession thrown out.

On May 27, 2009, Judge David R. Cashman ruled that Page would have separate murder and assault trials; however, his confession in Nyia’s death would still be presented at trial. Page’s murder case is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. October 13, 2009 in Courtroom 310, with the prosecution seeking the death penalty. A trial date for Page’s sexual assault case has yet to be announced.

The area that Nyia Page spent her final moments was turned into a playground and memorial garden per her mother’s wishes in May 2008. Future plans to the site included a pavilion, greenhouse and wildlife sanctuary.
